  1. "The federal government will fund the construction of six to eight new Arctic patrol ships to help reassert Canada's sovereignty over the North, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Monday.Harper also said the government will construct a deepwater port somewhere in the Far North, with the location to be announced soon. The port will be used as an operation base for the new patrol vessels. Sounds like you're gonna get that port you wanted." 1) The six patrol vessels are coastal patrol boats, not ice-breakers. 2) The port will help the economy of the arctic and the rest of Canada. I wonder how Curious George in Washington feels about this?
  2. I think that we all feel the same way. If someone threatens my family, I would have no problem removing the threat. The only question I have is how do we separate the Muslims who want to kill us from those who just go about their lives here in Canada?
  3. The fine should have been $4,000 a month for the rest of his life!
  4. Time for someone to be educated! 1 - The Globe doesn't cover American Football because they choose to give in depth coverage of the CFL and the NHL. They are also Canada's 'National Newspaper' and there are no Canadian team in the NFL. The other papers are regional papers except for the National Post which has less than half of the circulation of the Globe and Mail. There are also people in Toronto and Hamilton who don't want the NFL in Canada. The NFL has stated that they will not be expanding to Canada at this time due to lack of fan support. 2 - Most other Canadian cities such as Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Regina, Hamilton,Winnipeg and Montreal strongly support their CFL teams. Many fans fear that if the NFL comes into Canada, the CFL will not be able to compete. There is no interest in the NFL except in Toronto where the Argos are losing money because they play in the Skydome. They should be playing at Varsity Stadium which is much smaller but has the proper atmosphere for football in Canada. 3 - NFL footbal is boring. I mean 4 downs to move the ball? In Canada we only use three downs which means more passes and more excitement. Who wants to see the ball being run on almost every play? We also have a larger field to play on. 4 - Did you know that the Baltimore Stallions are the only non-Canadian team to win the Grey Cup? 5 - The Grey Cup game is always more exciting than the series of blowouts called the "Super Bowl"?
  5. Trudeau was right! We are not Americans because we believe that every province in Canada has the right to follow a different political path from their neighbour which means that the provinces often wind up negotiating to keep Canada together while keeping their independence from Ottawa. Americans do not seem to want that kind independence. Their independance was founded on the belief that the rights of the individual take priority over the rights of the state. We Canadians do not believe in individual rights to the same extent as Americans and this is how Canadians like it. Look at the gun issue for example. Americans have the constitutional right to bear arms. In Canada, we do not want or need such a "right". We would rather have safe streets and clean drinking water. There is also the American myth of the 'melting pot' vs the Canadian myth of the 'cultural mosaic'. The American myth goes like this: A person emigrates to the United States and becomes an American by adopting the culture and values of his neighbours. This is often at the expense of his original culture and values. The Canadian myth has the same immigrant coming to Canada to contribute his culture but keep his values. The American melting is starting to show cracks. There are small but growing independence moverments in Puerto Rico, Alaska and Hawaii. Many Amercians of hispanic descent are calling Calixians, Texicans, or simply Mexican - American or Hispanics. The politicians in Washington are having a hard time understanding Americans who don't to be American anymore. The cultural mosaic works because even Quebec Separtists want to remain a part of Canada, they just don't want to keep the status quo. The politicians in Ottawa understand this and keep negotiating with Quebec. Do not worry, Quebec will never leave Canada. That is why Canada will last as country for many years to come.
  6. I feel if there are attacks, then Canada will give in to the terrorists. After all, that's what we do in Canada. (native protests, Islamists, etc).
  7. Who said it would have to be Britain and France or "countries of that ilk"? Our relations with many first and third world countries is much better than the Americans. A case in point is China and Russia. Canada has cooperated with several the Chinese on several high tech and large construction projects, such as the Three Gorges Dam. Our government is currently considering purchasing three heavy lift military transport air craft such as the Antonov An 225. Take a look around the world and you will see anti Americanism rising in countries such as Japan, Russia, Venezuela, Brazil, Mexico, the Middle East and the Caribbean. Do you really think that the US would risk attacking a country whose relationship with the entire world is better than theirs?
  8. Should Canadians be allowed to be a citizen of another country?
  9. [ We do not need anyone to empower us to make war. Just look at all of the class struggles that are going on in the world.
  10. They would have more power if they had the land they needed to develop the wind turbine farms. I found an interesting document from Wind Energy Niagra. Got to http://www.regional.niagara.on.ca/governme...anels_4_5_6.pdf
  11. You do not need wind! They are using an under sea power generator that uses the ocean current to generate electricity. There is also one that uses the tides to generate electricity. It turns with the tide to provide a constant flow of electricity.
  12. "Wilkins is a diplomat. He gets a free pass on all of this, and no he is not putting money over rights of our citizens. What crime could we attach to put him on a wtach list?" How about kidnapping? How about unlawful confinement? How about malicous prosecution? Those are just three that I could think of. He be a diplomat but you can be sure that he would be removed quietly if Canada and Arar complained loud enough and long enough.
