How CanWest Helped Elect Campbell and Company Chretien's Liberal government made a major improvement to democracy in Canada by disallowing federal political donations in excess of $5,000. with the idea that the business community were no longer going to be able to buy elections. Oh yes, unions too were going to be prohibited from donating, however their donations were so small compared to business probably between 10 to 1, or 100 to 1 ratios in favour of the businees world that I don't know why they bothered with the unions.
