  1. Cybercoma wrote this...I couldn't put it any better so i won't...don't go around supposedly accurately quoteing things you know nothing of...
  2. When i said 'most efficient system could prevail' , i didn't mean public over private, or private over public...rather a system combined of the two, sorry for that misunderstanding...
  3. No it didn't....it called for allowing a 'two track' system, where by a efficient and effective balance could be achieved between private and public sectors and where the most efficient system could prevail. (in both measures of customer care, and cost effectiveness of the program) It does not dictate a system akin to that of the U.S. rather closer to the systems in Japan or possibly Sweeden. http://www.fraserinstitute.ca/pdf/CSF-Eng.pdf
  4. That's amazing...lol
  5. Where do you get off saying the libs are right wingers? They used to be more centralist, which I and many liked. Over the years and especially as of late political forces have contunually pulled them further and further to the left. (ie. new immigration legislation to bring parents/grandparents of immigrants to canada...despite the fact they are unskilled, the kyoto accord, millions to reduce racism [a wonderful idea however imposible to be implemented in a useful fashion], the gun registry, ect.... this is not even close to a complete list!)
  6. Well here is my two cents on the election matter... Keep in mind that despite my handle I do not exclusively belong to this line of political thinking... Too much of anything can be a bad thing. The ultimate expression of leftist thinking is communism, the ultimate expression of rightist thinking is facism, both are terrible, and opressive. Of course it can and will be sucessfully argued these are not the goals of the liberal or concervatives, and the people who argue this point are correct. (the ndp however is a different story...lol) My point however is that we are at prestent too far to the left, and need a move to the center, center-right. The liberals have been around for a long time, and some change could really do us some good! At some point in the future can i see the Conservatives getting too far right and needing to be straightened out yes! But that is far and away...give someone else a chance!
  7. I have to admit i am only marginally interesting in this issue. However it is odd that they chose a pope who is 78, and who has cited health concerns. Also there is virtually no hope of reforms in the church under this pope, as he was John Pauls right hand man. I'm sure he'll do a good job, but what is the point of appointing a pope who cannot be around for more than 5 years or so, are the cardianals afraid of change, or youth and vitality.
  8. Yes it does help, but we are still not necessarily on a level playing field with the states. Health care is far from free over here for the big three, and other businesses for that matter. Dental, eye care, chriropactic care, ect. the most commonly used services are not provided by the government. Also let it be known that the Big three suffer disproportionaltely from health care costs when compared with other big businesses as they must provide for an immense population of retired workers who are older and reqire these services. Keep in mind I am by far and away not advocateing we switch to a health care plan just like that of the U.S.
  9. The C.D. Howe Institute is a NONPARTISAN, nonprofit, organization that's sole aim is to improve Canadians standard of living, by promoting sound economic and social policies. They have proof and imperical evidence to back themselves up! They have no leaning one way or the other towards the rich or the poor...lol. That is merely speculation and propaganda. You may believe they are "mean spirited', simply because you 'cannot see the forest for the trees'. Supplying ever more social services does no one any justice! Note: this form of governing is NOT self perpetuating! There is a place for social programs, and neither myself, the C.D Howe Institue, or my political party advocate the dissolusion of all these programs. But lets face it social programs can only do so much. In order for greater success of individuals the economic backbone of the country must be made as strong as possible, this ultimately is the best 'social service' ANY government can ever provide! P.S. The articles I provided were no where to be found on C.D. Howe's website. Although it should be noted the authors have contributed C.D. Howe in the past.
  10. http://www.competeprosper.ca/research/Chen...port_251103.pdf http://www.competeprosper.ca/research/Chen...port_241104.pdf Two consecutive studies showing that Ontario is not at a competative advantage to that of Michigan, and other states.
  11. Reduce corperate tax cuts? Anyone with half a brain realizes that these tax cuts benefit the people not just the coperations. Why would you want to stop this; business doesn't stay around if they aren't allowed to keep any of the money they are making, and with high taxes who would want to locate a business here vs a low tax country if such a choice existed. (and the money saved with national health argument just doesn't cut it if you ask me.) That's the problem with the NDP, no business sense/common sense. All their ideas sound great and as though they are out to help the 'everyman' yet they simply aren't sustainable in the real world!
  12. i would say this sounds like the NDP as well....
  13. Although i don't agree with everything being said in this discussion, I definitely feel this political correctness has gotten way out of hand.... So i was in Compensation class a while back when my teacher mentions how we should not refer to secretary's as secretary's anymore rather "administrative assistants", and we should not refer to temps as temps anymore rather "part time worker" Where does the insanity end?
  14. A private systems capital costs could be funded by a stock offering. Why would administrative costs go up?
  15. Nope, but these awards could be given out by anyone. P.S. - that last post didn't really make much sense.
  16. It should never have been placed under the publication ban in the first place. The hearing is open to the public, anyone can go and see it....obviously the information was going to get out! Especially considering the public interest in this investigation!
  17. The EU does have a massive economy, however if you think the U.S. has debt problems you have another thing coming. They (the EU) have something to the effect of a 200% debt to GDP ratio, compare that to Canada at 67% and declining, and the U.S at 62% and raising. Is it possible for them to become a superpower in my opinion yes....likely NO. The member nations appear indecisive weak kneed, and prone to bickering amongst each other, not to mention breaking from EU guidlines. If the countries are more formally brought together, and more ambitious goals are set out/guidelines enforced...ya they could do it.
  18. I have a lot to say that is positive about my party. For starters i am very glad that they do not support a budget bill that was designed to tax carbon emmisions, a bill that even environmental groups do not support saying "it is unnecessarily devisive". I am glad they are pressing for an end to "soft diplomacy" toward Iran with regards to the Kazemi Case. I am glad they support our military, have fresh political thinking, are not about a larger government, more taxes and more interference in joe everyman's life. I am also very happy about the fact that my party does not frilously insult our largest trading partner. (note that it was only after Carolyn Parish mentioned that she did not care about her party, that she was thrown out, not because she frequently insulted the us ie. stomping on bush dolls, calling the president stupid, etc).
  19. You raise a valid point, it won't help the public system, but who says the public system is the answer? You have to ask yourself if the public system is so good why would the doctors choose to leave? Possibly because they are overworked, underpaid, can't put up with government buracracy/waste? Change doesn't come easy and there will be hardship along the way to achieving something/anything great. Look at countries like sweden and Japan who have mixed (to one degree or the other) heath care systems, these same systems have been judged the best health care systems in the world. All i'm saying is that we should look to the leaders in the field of health care for a vision of what our system could/should look like, and not draw conclusions about private health services based on the US endevour.
  20. At this link there is evidence to the contrary. http://www.fraserinstitute.ca/shared/readm...?sNav=pb&id=658 I'm sure you will note that this is a report from the fraser institute, a institution that liberals always argue is right leaning, this may or may not be true. But through their long history their investigations have been proven correct many times over (even when popular prevailing though would have them be wrong) , due to this they have gained a great deal of respect from across the country, bearing this in mind their report cannot simply be shrugged off.
  21. They (the liberals) have already been granted full standing in the Gomery inquiry, so they to can cross examine the witnesses. This RCMP investigation is simply ridiculous.
  22. There is no law stateing that. However what this whole inquiry is about is not just a normal political donation; rather the illegal funneling of funds back to the liberal party, through bogus contracts, and other illegal activities. Hey CAGERATTLER why don't you stop unabashadly supporting the liberals, especially when you simply spout nonsense, and rhetoric! If you are going to support them at least bring some solid facts.
  23. I couldn't have said it better, there are other semi privatized or privatized systems that are much more efficient than ours, ie sweden, and japan. Privitization (in Canadian context) does not mean US style healthcare! To win a election the conservatives will definitly have to lay out a VERY clear plan on healthcare, a plan that the other parties will have a very difficult time twisting to make it sound as though we will end up with US style health care.
  24. I agree that is ridiculous. Another glaring example of excessive payout would be to Archibald McLean in 1999 then CEO of maple leaf foods. He recieved $3 471 866 in pay, stock options, and dividends....despite the fact he shut down a meat packing plant in Edmonton because the workers refused to accept a wage rollback... what a nice guy!
