New StatsCan unemployment figures
Conservative1 replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That sustained period of growth I mentioned wasn't ecxcluding the US, they too experienced similar results overall (despite current account dificits) . Like I said though it doesn't benifit everyone in every sector, (the people it doesn't benifit are supposed to shift sectors...easier said than done i realize) and the system isn't without it's flaws...especially in the short run! But overall in the long run it keeps economies more competitive, productivity up and living standards on the up. -

Thank the Conservatives foremost and the liberals to a lesser extent for free trade....and you SHOULD be thanking them! Following the implementation of free trade Canada experienced one of the longest sustained periods of economic growth and expansion in history. Unfortunately free trade doesn't benifit everyone in every industry instead it forces allocation of recsources (ie. capital, and labour) to areas of the economy where these resourses can best be used. The overall effect of which is that resources are put to better use than they previously would have been put, making Canada more competitive/productive. The ultimate result of this increased productivity would be generally increased living standards...yes possibly even for you! Go ahead and pick up any modern economics textbook on the subject! And yes if the NDP did form government taxes would be higher and we would be paying for welfare state services that most don't need, services that in the long run end up hurting those which they are trying to help. Services me and dare I say it the majority of canadians don't want and definitely don't need! It's your kind of socalist thinking that I am logically and morally opposed to, it's your kind of thinking that has the potential to turn this country into a disgusting socailist welfare state! In short these views are why I can't stand the NDP! -

War In Iraq (old news I know but not forgotten)
Conservative1 replied to SamStranger's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm kind of undecided...I mean it is apualling how the U.S. had either incredibly inept or downright falsified surveilance, depicting Iraq's posession WMAs! (I know highly overused term...lol) On the other hand Iraq not allowing in inspectors until the war machine was essentially already knocking down their door, wasn't acceptable either! And the response of the free world to this incredible indescretion was to do nothing!! Ultimately I feel Iraq will be better off with Saddam removed, and democracy in place (if that will actually ever happen is a topic for another thread...lol). I guess ultimately the only thing i have a problem with is the falsified or inept intelligence...if they could do it to them who couldn't they do it to? -

That is the kind of information i was interested in...seems like good policy public or socialized, thanks for the info! -
From www.libertarian.ca I went out last night with this woman who was well versed in Libertarianism, and another friend of mine is interested in it as well. Particularly this conversation last night spiked my interest in the group, so i did some research and examined their ideologies and policies through their website...and in conclusion there is no wonder why this party didn't even recieve 1% of the vote... Knowing previously that Libertarians promote minimal taxation, and very small gov't size and expenditure, addmitedly put them in a positive light with me previously...sounds like the conservative utopia right? Ya...NO! SO MANY RADICAL POLICIES...WHICH IF THEY WERE TO BE PUT INTO PRACTICE WOULD EFFECTIVELY RESULT IN ANARCHISM! I doubt a realistic viable political party could ever come out of this, unless there were some dramatic changes! One idea/policy that seems to scream of idiocy is to dismantle the Bank of Canada! Ever hear of the saying 'if it ain't broke don't fix it'.... cause the B of C has served it's purpose quite well over the years low inflation has largely been achieved, who otherwise would dispense money/control money supply! Plus the idea that you should let markets determine the value of currency...is by in large already in effect. On the left the liberals got the NDP which in my mind are socalist radicals not fit for office...on the right if conservatives aren't careful we could get the Libertarians who are effectively anarchist zealots, definitely not fit for office! I for one hope their time never comes to pass....unless in a severly diluted form!

Hey I'm not saying i don't have issues with it, ie. no competion, and government monopoly, are the first issues to come to mind...values NOT in line with my thinking! What I am interested in is, what IS working there! Clearly something is wrong in Ontario with auto insurance, I'm just looking for interesting idea's on how to fix it, I don't care where the ideas come from. Plus sometimes it's simply interesting to hear how things are done in other parts of the country....so in conclusion go stick it and your accusations where the sun doesn't shine pal... -

Absolutely...there seems to be this idea in Canada that far left thinking is a godsend, while far right thinking is the devil incarnate, political ideology taken too far right OR LEFT is inherantly not a good thing. Ever hear of the saying "everything in moderation", well it definitely applies to politics, and lets just say the NDP aren't too moderate! I live in the Windsor area where two NDP MP's were elected federally...boggles my mind how people holding such far left wing ideologies get voted in. The only answer i can honestly come up with is that the people are not informed as to the ramifications of such a parties ideology, or what would happen if god forbid they formed government (as in Manitoba...has to suck, I feel for ya!) One possibly good thing I've heard about from Manitoba recently is the socialized auto insurance..... I would be interested to hear some different perspectives and opinions. -
Economic Left/Right: 0.0 (oddly enough...) Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.3 Hmm this kind of surprised me, thought for sure my economic thinking would be considered further right. Many of you would likely have thought the same given my handle i'm sure....

Minorities and polling stations
Conservative1 replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I know that this is a quote from way back in the beginning of this thread, but I felt i just had to comment. I have never been one to understand the whole "forced" equal representation debate, wheather it be in the workplace or in the government. It is the best person, or possibly willing person in your case, for the job that's it. I believe in measures to eliminate discrimination, but I do not believe in selecting people based on the colour of their skin. Maybe there was no white people volunteering, or maybe as some were suggesting in the beginning of the thread, once a dominant group was apparent others left in dismay, in which case it is the fault of the people that left, not the people who stayed on as voulunteers. I can't believe that this would really cause any concern or debate. As long as the ballots where counted fairly who cares. -
Do you want an election now?
Conservative1 replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What? That better not be a serious comment...if it is, you need your head examined! -
What kind of statement is that? The military is a saftey net there to protect us when something unforseen comes along! Further it should be in a constant state of readiness. It should also be there to back up our tough rhetoric when the time comes. Need I even mention Dafour. We have quite the military on that nickel don't we....oh wait NO we don't. Our military is smaller in size than croatia's! I find almost everything else from that post equally apaulling...alas i am not going to take the time out of my day to reply to all of that duzy...

You really should go in for a tightening....

In addition to that it should be noted that private clinics are springing up across Canada as it is....especially in Quebec.

Ontario Budget 05.
Conservative1 replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I still don't get this whole idea of the conservatives (or really any party for that matter) having a "mean spirited agenda" agendas are set according to pary beliefs. I don't think any agenda is "mean spirited" in our government (that even includes the NDP who i despise). You can disagree with agenda's, however i really doubt any political party sets out to be mean. Likely you simply do not agree with that parties ideology. -

Another good example of how naive you are. Most politicians, at least in the two popular parties, go into politics for underhanded reasons... You have no proof to back that up, i'm willing to bet the vast majority of politicians start out for very nobel reasons. They become underhanded later after power corrupts them. Even then undoubtebly this isn't the majority. Assuming what you say is true (ie. politicians go into politics for underhanded reasons) why would the NDP be any different from the rest of the parties? -
Ok where to begin...well for starters.. Note: I am a 3rd year dual major student in Business and Economics...and the contents of your blabber relate to business (somewhat) not economics. The sarcasm is wonderful. I am aware that hydro power generation is the most inexpensive, however this $0.005 per kilowatt hour i cannot confirm or deny. One thing that is for certain is that hydro power only accounts for 30% of power generation in ontario, by this measure the .5 cent idea is out the window. As stated above this $0.005 figure is not accurate for the overall cost of production, merely by your own assertion the cost of production at hydroelectric stations. Under the tories prices were capped at 4.3 cents which costs the average user an extra $12/month over 2001 or 2002 prices i can't remember which. Currently prices are 5 cents per kilowatt hour and 5.8 cents after the first 750 kilowatt hours used in a month (as of april 1st, 2005) This 16 cent figure i really have no idea... Furthermore if electricity is so cheap to produce why was Ontario hydro running consistant dificits when it was a public entity? It is better to pay now and avoid what was an ever increasing debt (an avoidable one at that) which would require interest payments. Regarding privitization of the former Hydro One I don't know if it was necessarily the right move, however the prices did need an upward adjustment at least in order to break even and avoid debt. As stated above (and you can easily look this up) we ARE being charged 5 cents per kilowatt hour.

Well you were spouting off non-truths about an easily accessible study that i (and apparently cybercoma) agree with. Further you have been corrected on this issue before, yet you refuse to let it die. So i do/did not intend to let you perpetuate this ridiculousness.

I'm mean. I brush my teeth in the morning with the blood and bones of my fallen enemies! I have a swastika tattoo'd on my forehead. I plan on bar codeing everyone as foretold with the numbers 666 (even though it doesn't make any sense at all!) just because i can! NOTHING will stand in my way! This just in.... political parties don't exist to be mean! They are there to help their country develop along the most prosperous lines possible, for everyone! -
This is really a provincial matter...never the less. Wow now they are charging a price for electricity that reflects how much it costs to produce! (for a change) The price is capped and regulated by the gov't, those damn dirty evil corporations at it again! The price increases have been marginal at best, and now providing electricity isn't a fiscal drag on the prov. government. Private offerings will lessen pressure on public facilities improving wait times there. As far as less pressure to provide services in the public sector....i think the masses of people who remain using the public system (likely the vast majority) will still be more than able to keep up the pressure on that front! In a perfect Conservative world everyone has access to fast efficient public healthcare, yet they also have the option of going to a private facility if the service desired isn't provided at the local public one, or if they do not wish to wait so long. Hospitals have been referring patients to Detroit area hospitals for treatment from the Windsor area for quite some time....why should they have to go to the states for these services? Jack Layton represents an blatantly socialistic party! How you can support this kind of insanity is beyond me! Socialism truly (as can be proven easily with recent historical facts) only benefits the corrupt individuals administering it, and has been proven not to work!

When Should Harper Pull the Plug?
