  1. Very true... Andrew Coyne is famous for saying that we are rapidly becoming a presidential system without the checks and balances of a presidential system... Not good...
  2. I guess I should have said that Liberal supporters call Mr. Trudeau by his first name as if they know him... And shouldn't have said "voters"...I should have said supporters...And I don't mean here at this place,I mean at other places like The Huffington Post and the Power & Politics facebook comment section...That's two places where I've seen it first hand... You can always tell the Liberal folks because they defend Trudeau's lack of any public declaration of policy as "smart" and if anyone questions this that person gets pilloried for being angry and narrow minded... At least that's been my experience...
  3. To that point about the vacuous "likeability" stuff... I've noticed that Liberal voters have taken the position that any questioning of "Justin" (note the use of the 1st person) is "mean spirited" and "gutter politics"... This seems to be an excercise in debate nullification and insulation from actually having definable positions...
  4. Very true... Many of those atrocities committed in Latin America and Africa were with the explicit knowledge of the US State Department (by the way,the Soviets were committing just as many atrocities). The list of dictators propped up in the name of "freedom" is legendary and lengthy. Now,to Argus' point, there was a war going on to stop the spread of Communism. And it's true that some of that was going. But,it also gave these dictators convenient cover to kill as many political opponents they could by calling any and all dissent "communist". As this relates to Mr. Mandela,it's true he was an avowed Marxist and wanted violent revolution as the only way to affect change. But,he changed during his incarceration and realized that you cannot answer a fist with a fist....
  5. That's an interesting point... I mean to say that if one is "conservative" or something to that effect, one must want to conserve something? What is it exactly that these Conservatives are trying to conserve?
  6. I was going to say Stalinist Communists...Who,if given power, will begin with the requisite purges and gulags for the "undesirables"...
  7. OK... Seeing as I don't really have a bone to pick with anyone... Who do you favour?
  8. I like '69 Chargers... I prefer a '69 1/2 Charger Daytona with a 426 Hemi...
  9. Depending on the person involved,he's got a point...
  10. At the risk of invoking Goodwins Law upon myself... Does the German federal election of 1933 not fit the bill?
  11. Unfortunately, both of these things have taken place... First nations haven't set bombs off (to my knowledge) but there have been violent uprisings in the recent past (Ipperwash, for example)... And Quebec's quest for government was violent (October Crisis) and was headed for a Northern Ireland type of thing if Pierre Trudeau had not invoked the War Measures Act upon the province...
  12. Your boy,Mike Harris, started us down the road to utility privatization...Common Sense Revolution indeed...
  13. Very true.. I started learning more about 20th Century history and going more in depth about the authoritarian/totalitarian ideologies in Grade 12.But,it was an elective and I took the course because I was interested in history...
  14. As long as the NDP are polling around 24 to 26 %,there is no majority in the Liberals future... Expect the tired line from the Lib's about how they are the only ones who can stop the dastardly Conservatives from Ralph Goodale and Marc Garneau in the not too distant future...
  15. More e-mails...Not looking good for Steve...

    1. Shady
    2. The_Squid

      The_Squid

But he didn't know anything... only his right hand man did... and his lawyer... and several of hos other staff including his current right hand man... oh, and the CPC president...

      But Steve knew nothing...

  16. That's because most were recent defectors out of the Federal US army and had nothing else...
  17. It's not necessarily racist or bigoted to fly it... It is if one believes in what the underlying issues around the "States Rights" arguement and not the cotton/economic issue...
  18. Rommel falls into this category,as well... German military officer...Not necessarily a NAZI... Same as Lee...Not a believer in the institution of slavery, but, infamously said he could not take up arms against his southern brethren...
  19. I always thought the Confederate Battle flag was a naval flag? It should be noted that the flag is square and not rectangular...
  20. Very true...But we cannot expect much different from the slobbering "Don Cherry" types, can we?
  21. Surely you're not suggesting that business people might have a pro-business bias towards corporate profitability? Surely you're not suggesting that those politicians who might have been educated at the...I don't know.."The Calgary School"...Wouldn't be predisposed towards that economic ethos? Because that would never happen...
  22. uh...A championship fight goes no longer than 12 rounds... How does a 36 minute fight, assuming it goes the full 12 take "hours"?...12x3=36+12 (rest)=48 minutes...The math simply doesn't add up... Boxing is so detrimental to one's health because it is the most restrictive of all the martial arts because one can only punch above the belt and only with the pronated portion of the fist... When someone get's KO'd in a Marquess of Queensberry match, they are counted out...They don't get to get up...
  23. Appoint more senators...Then try to cover up illegal expenses...The obfuscate, deflect, and dodge when getting nailed to the wall by the Official Opposition...
  24. Well...Young Mr. Trudeau is a photogenic ,famous namesake, branding excercise to get the Liberal Party back into power...This is a party that is just as crooked,in terms of Senate appointments,as the Conservative party (or it's forerunner, the Progressive Conservative party).Hence his ruminations about keeping the Senate essentially the way it is.The only outrage the Liberals really have with Senate reform,or outright abolition,is that they won't be able to stack the Senate with THEIR party bagmen and women anymore... A vacuous spokesperson who sends out feel good platitudes to make the populous want to vote Liberal... He provides convenient cover for those that erroneously think the Liberal Party of Canada is the party of his father, namely a socially democratic party of the centre left...It is not...It is essentially, the Conservative Party of Canada with a smile... The only real difference between the Conservative party and the Liberal party is in presentation and tone!
