But government has to pay for repairing and maintaining your fat body when you develop a myriad of diseases because of your unhealthy eating habits? I don't think so! As for overfeeding kids, that borders on criminal. Force them to take part in diets and exercises in order to maintain their health coverage. This punishes people who eat these things in moderation, and who exercise and don't get fat. Why should they be punished because of gluttony?

I drink coke and I'm healthy. Why should I have to pay more because fatties can't control their impulse to gorge?

If parents let their kids balloon up in size like that then they're unfit parents and the children should be taken away. That would be a last resort, but those kids are going to face unhappy and diminished lives if they remain fat through to adulthood. They need to be sent to fat camp and their parents need to be sent to nutrition camp.

Junk food is not the issue. Lack of self discipline is the issue. Overeating is the issue. Lack of exercise is the issue.

Then they'll have to prove it. Otherwise, if you're fat, you're breaking the law. It's not had to tell who's fat. You don't need BMIs for that. You can't do exercise if you're low income? I bet if we set them to cutting weeds or clearing snow they'll start losing that weight.

Obesity costs trillions every year. For a society with public health care, the costs are not merely to the individuals who lard up, but to the health care budgets of their provinces. Accordingly, I think it should be illegal to be fat. Parents of fat children should be reported to childrens aid societies and called in for diet and exercise counseling for their kids. I can't speak to who is lying and who is telling truth, but the reports from the Star from the 2 women seem completely unrelated to the talk of him being involved in BDSM. They say that when they came in the door he punched them and choked them. I know somewhat about BDSM and that sounds like nothing more than common assault. I don't believe a closed fist is ever used during BDSM, certainly not in anything I've ever seen or heard of. Ghomeshi's BDSM is described as role playing and 'mild 50 shades of gray' but a closed fist would be very extreme. The essence of the 'sm' portion of 'bdsm' is to cause pain but no harm and a closed fist causes harm, or at least threatens it. Some people are a fan of choking during orgasm, but to choke someone when they step in the door seems like something related to psychiatric problems, not sexual fetishes. Dominance and submission games generally involve words, more than actions. You 'dominate' by force of personality, not by physically overpowering someone. I've seen nothing described which I would identify as relating to bdsm or Dom/sub lifestyles - consensual or not.

I doubt most of these people have much of a choice. How many would toss their pooch out the window in a heartbeat if an attractive person showed up offering to replace it?

You're missing the point. Pedophiles might prey on either gender. But all these scandals involve adolescent boys, which makes the men involved something other than pedophiles. It makes them gay.

Yes, there is. There's a cultural acceptance of it within the gay community which does not exist in the heterosexual community, although I admit a large part of the latter is due to women. That only a small percentage of the world is gay is a silly argument. There are lots of gay people, hundreds of thousands in the Toronto area alone. I'm sure they can find partners.

I don't need to offer a cite to prove a negative when you've offered nothing to prove your allegation. Just about anyone who has an interest in understanding and controlling them.

I disagree. The Church has done many great things and helped many, many people through its charitable works. Like any bureaucracy the Church sought to handle things quietly, that's all. No one in any sector of society used to take this stuff seriously, so why should they? They also have a pretty deep core commitment to confession and forgiveness. I have not seen any evidence the abuse of children from Catholic clergy was any worse than from Protestants or Jewish clergy, or from doctors, teachers and bankers.

A liking for teenagers is nothing new, and goes back through the entire history of mankind. Men imprint on what we first find sexually desirable, and obviously that's young teenager girls. Up until the last century or two that was also when we married them. So while it's culturally forbidden it's not psychologically diagnosable. I.e., it's not a mental illness like paedophilia. If they were YOUNG children. My understanding is by far the great majority were adolescent boys. I disagree. There are plenty of gay men. The gay community prefers younger men, that's all. The whole fixation on body shaving originated in the gay community. Why? Because shaving their body hair made them look more appealing to possible partners.

First, pedophiles don't have sex with adolescents. Second, no, they don't 'get off' on power. They are simply psychologically incapable of forming bonds or relating to adult women. And most of them seem able to convince themselves they aren't harming the child. Second, I'm not speaking about pedophiles. I'm saying all these cases of men having sex with adolescent boys and teenagers is not an issue of pedophilia at all, but merely immoral gay men preying on adolescents.

Girls if you prefer. I was speaking about teenagers. The key difference being that pedophilia is a psychiatric issue and hebophilia is merely a sexual preference. Yes, they are just gay.

I think one of the problems was the church was so desperate for priests that it lowered its standards and overlooked a lot they might not have once upon a time. Maybe it's time for them to do as the English church has done and admit women priests. And to repeat, if they 'concentrated on the young people who went to DC to work' they weren't pedophiles. Pedophiles are not interested in teenagers.

Do you have a citation for that? I"ve never heard the number of paedohiles listed as nearly that high. Two percent is more a number given for the percentage of gays in the general population.

That's not how it works. Yes, pretty young women are popular in heterosexual culture, and it's not called paedophila. That was my point.
