  1. What does the current 'situation' have to do with our immigration system? I thought our immigration system was there to help us to avoid labour shortages and an aging population? Are you saying it's just a big ol refugee intake system to help the world?
  2. I'm sorry but did I misstate your position? It certainly seems to me that that is your position. I bet everyone else read it the same way.
  3. The 'coalition" only started bombing ISIS targets in Syria in support of a Kurdish town on the border which faced annihilation. The Syrian civil war started in the spring of 2011. The 'coalition' didn't start bombing around the northern town until September of 2014. These facts are easily verified. The civil war in Syria was bubbling along for three and a half years before the US started bombing ISIS.
  4. I haven't been following refugees on a day to day basis but at one point we were accepting almost anything that showed up here, with whatever ridiculous claim they made. The Tories have tightened up on the process. Good for them. Most of the refugees who get here have already passed through numerous safe countries to get here, clearly indicating they're not after safety but economic improvement. Others originate in countries like Poland and Hungary and the US and other places where we do not accept refugees from. Who said I support war on humanitarian grounds? And who said these people were displaced by it? They were displaced by war, maybe, but it's not a war we started.
  5. You see them on the train in Hungary today? They were desperate to avoid going to refugee camps to be processed, desperate to make it north. These people are not fleeing death and destruction. They're running towards richer lands in hopes of becoming richer themselves. I don't blame them for wanting to go there but that doesn't mean those countries should take them and pay billions for their upkeep.
  6. All that is true. Despite that countries like Egypt, Jordan and Syria have kept Palestinian refugees in camps for almost seventy years now, refusing to grant them citizenship or integrate them, even though most of them were actually born there. There doesn't seem to be much generosity of spirit in the middle east. They get infuriated when some outsider harms Muslims but they show precious little concern for their fellow Muslims otherwise.
  7. If I understand you, what you're saying is that because Canada's overall population rose due to immigration, that should mean we ought to take even more immigrants? And the more our population rises due to immigration, the more immigrants we must take?
  8. Uhm, from your cite. Earlier reports said Canada rejected a refugee application from the boy’s family in June. But the boy’s B.C.-based aunt clarified Thursday, saying she had not yet submitted an application to sponsor his immediate family. In fact, she had applied for another member of her family, she said.
  9. Sooo no interfering with genocide? Is that your position?
  10. Not interested in biased information. I posted the reports to parliament which show immigration has gone up. And Harper has promised to increase it further this year. I don't know. Why does Israel get so much press when the same shite happens all across the globe? Because that part of the world has a lot of cameras and gets a lot of attention. What can I say?
  11. Next time you're looking for a discussion topic. Ask someone who isn't particularly involved politically how many immigrants they think we bring in each year. I saw a piece a while back which said most people think it's under 100,000.
  12. Well, most of the refugees are from Syria, and that's a civil war with virtually no outside interference, certainly none from us.
  13. So you're saying we should ignore genocide and human rights violations everywhere?
  14. Your silly little diagram had no facts. I have now posted them.
  15. I'm not interested in your silly little diagrams from immigrant activists.
  16. Not enough! There are still a few Canadian born people around! We need more millions of foreigners!
  17. Cite. Here are the reports to parliament for 2005, the last year of Chretien's reign, and for 2014. Canada became home to 235,824 new permanent residents in 2004. http://Canada admitted 258,953 new permanent residents in 2013, a slight increase over 2012 (257,887) and a higher level than the average number of admissions from 2009–2013 (257,000).
  18. That is an out and out nonsensical lie. The fighting in Syria, Iraq and Libya was well underway long before anyone even suggested western powers should 'do something' to put an end to it.
  19. Are you blaming Canada for starting the Arab Spring? Because there was a ton of fighting over there before we sent over half a dozen old fighters to drop the occasional bomb. Likewise the Iraqi mess is not ours and we didn't arrive at the scene until long after the place fell apart.
  20. Seems to me you don't respond to logic either.
  21. That's garbage. Hussien was bombing and killing people by the truckload before we ever got involved. The Taliban was in constant war with the northern warlords, and Syria slaughtered thousands every time there was a hint of defiance. We didn't start the Arab Spring, nor did we start the current rebellion in Syria. And it was Iran and Al Quaeda who kept Iraq from being put back together properly, not us.
  22. It's perfectly safe in Turkey. No it does not. Why is it you paternalistic white liberals always look for White people to blame whenever something goes wrong? You are conveniently forgetting the wars which rampaged through Afghanistan and Iraq before any invasions. And you're blaming Gaza on us too? As well as the Arab Spring? That was our fault? You have a weird memory which seems to have been spawned by an overactive guilt complex. Not Arabs, for sure. We can't hold them responsible for what they do. We must find some White people to blame.
  23. Didn't the fighting start well before American intercession, which started before ours? Wasn't that place a horrific mess long before our minor, mostly supportive role even started? Why do you insist on blaming us?
  24. Chretien led us into Afghanistan, and Harper's involvement with our allies in Iraq, Syria and Libya came well after the humanitarian crisis caused by violent conflict had already begun. Do you never read a newspaper?
  25. I don't understand why this is his problem. I don't even understand that there IS a problem. The claim was assessed like all others. The family were safe in Turkey. Why exactly do you think we should have rushed to let them in as opposed to all the millions of others? Were we to know his family would take him out into a leaky, overcrowded boat and get him killed?
