My dad loved to argue, you call it debate, and the amazing thing was that somewhere in the argument one found that he had changed sides. I don' know how he did it but he sure was good at it. He would have loved this site.

How can we all sleep at night knowing...
margrace replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Good posts, there are two sayings that I like and try to follow. One is Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me and the second paraphrased is there is only one beginning for change and it starts with me. NO good telling other people what to do it one does not do it themselves. There have been some great things on the news later. A small School in Uptergrove decided to give something for every person in Orillia. It turns out that they gave 150 or more items each. This will keep the Salvation Army operational for three months. We try to look after our people and keep dying people in their homes. I sent out about 40 prechristmas letters asking for help to keep our volunteers going. So far I have recieved answers to about 6 of them and I have nearly $2,000 dollars. People in our area are so caring, makes me proud to be part of it. -
Chalk River nuclear reactor, medical isotope facility
margrace replied to trex's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No takers on this one? -
There are three things you can't live without, Air to breath, Food to eat and Water to drink. By the type of posts considered discussing on here you would think these things are not anymore important than the sometimes unimportant things discussed.

Chalk River nuclear reactor, medical isotope facility
margrace replied to trex's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yep Canadian Conservative incompetency, in the Globe and Mail this moring the head of Chalk River appointed by Harper against the advise, appointed a political appointee, thought he didn't believe in this, who was a fund raiser for the Alliance party. The gentleman quit last week, seems like we need to look into this aye. -
Being a pacifist.. does it make you a more moral person?
margrace replied to White Doors's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Well from the sidelines, the violence you preach may catch up with you and yours yet. We will wait and see how rightous you are. -
An interesting concept that I came across is the people who are against abortion more often than not support the death penalty. If that is not revenge and hypocracy what is it?

Will the federal government help the people who lose their jobs with their mortgages. People working in these factories have mostly all bought homes, lots of those people worked in the same place for over 20 years.
-
Our Neighbours just came back from Germany. They have companies there as well as in Canada, so they spend their time equally between both areas. They told us that the car parts industry in Germany has been moved to China, many young people are losing their jobs and their places to live. One plant they cited closed and then offered jobs back to the people who had worked for them at half the pay. In our area there seems to be a manufacturing industry closing at least once a week. On the news this week was a parts manufacturer in Barrie. It announced to its employees that the factory was closing in January because of the Canadian dollar. However when the management spoke to the press they also said the plants in the US were closing but not the one's in China. How long do we allow this to go on. We have to be the stupidest people in the world. We want throw away items but do not want to see the loss of jobs.

Every dump in our area has to be replaced, they are all at capacity, the price quoted for this is 3 to 5 million per dump, then there;s the problem of finding a new and safe place. It would be interesting to know how much the new dump in Oro Mandonte is going to cost. Before you talk of money remember it goes two ways. Our dump may be leaking into the river and it was slated to be replaced several yeara ago, but there is no replacement for it.

Yes this is an old, old argument. It is used to allow us to get our revenge. How often would this happen to someone. There are always ways to allow us to permit murder isn't there? However that does not change the idea that murder is murder.

One of the things everyone on here should be aware of is that tommorrow you could be diagnosed with cancer or some other disease. You have no control over this and according to some of the posters on here you really don't care. Staying at home with round the clock care is not available for a lot of people. Unless we make it so for everyone you could end up in a facility that is run on the cheap and is chronically short staffed because it costs a lot of money to run these places. Our local doctors have set up a program that allows, for instance, supplies to be kept available for pain care. If you do not have this you could suffer in terrible pain over a weekend until the doctor or someone else gets around to looking at your problem. If you are in a hospital and the pain starts in the middle of the night, no one will call the doctor until sometime in the morning. I know most of you are young and think you are invinsable and I hope you do not find out the hard way what can happen to you in a short space of time.

Change begins one step at a time and it begins with me. The sooner people get this message the better.

Because there will be nothing produced in Canada, it cost more to bring in food from elswhere. Farmers cannot contiunue to support your life style. When its gone then watch out.
-
No I wouldn't, How many people lost pets over the pet food fiasco of Chinese additives, are we so nieve as to think that isn't happening in our food as well. I have always made it my policy not to buy food produced any where else but in Canada and for some things the US. I am 72 and I have never believed that other countries are safe to buy for. But of course I have already posted this and got told off for threatening world trade.

On the news yesterday, somewhere in the Maritimes and I forget where, they are refusing all electronics at the local dumps, instead they have set up a depot to accept these. How will it be paid for? There will be an extra tax on all electronics bought of from $40 down. That money will go to support the new depot. I presume this stuff will be recycled.

There are some well known rules that mankind has had around for a long time. The ten commandents says Thou shalt not kill, no if ands or buts. Dogs are not people Borg and they are made vicious by how they are handled and looked after. So is the dog responsible?
-
Other than Borg do any of the people on here know anything about the production of your food. Canada has extremely strong rules to keep your food safe. The fish item is just the thin edge of the wedge. Give up your control of your food and you will suffer for it. Stores such as Walmart are pushing the limits be careful of what you buy and eat. Good sensable food is important and I don't mean 90% of the guk you buy in your foreign owned suppermarkets. In order to keep your food safe and in order to protect your environment your food should come from a 100 mile radius of where you live. Out of curiosity I have tried the processed food sold today, it is tastless and unappetizing. I honestly cannot understand how people can eat it and it is so expensive. On the Barrie tv news this week a doctor and nutritionist showed how much better and cheaper it was to buy Canadian apples for instance. It has been widely discussed recently that the generation coming behind the baby boomers will not live as long as their parents. Their eating habits have a lot to do with it. The huge increase in diabetes alone should warn people. Lately I have notices that a lot of the good restaurants are growing their own produce, why do you think that is? Could it be it tastes better?

How Civilized People Face Violence & Evil People
margrace replied to August1991's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Good example in the US of what happens and we will find out ourselves if Harper ever gets the control he wants. -
Mulroney gives me the creeps when I see him on my screen, that horrible smile ek.
-
My son as a youngster could not understand how killing a person,no matter what he/she had done, proved that it was wrong to kill. Can you explain that to me.

On the news this morning evidently Baird is appologetice and sorry about Bali. There was a petition sent out by an evironmental organization. They wanted people to tell Harper to sign the accord. They wanted 25,000 signatures, in 18 hours they got 76,000. I understand it was to be published in all the major newspapers yesterday. I wonder if this is making Baird have second thoughts. The arguments on here are just debates, perhaps some are devils advocates, I don't know but I hope they are not playing with my grandchildren's lives.

Oh those evil UK Muslims (and other darkies)
margrace replied to Lazarus's topic in The Rest of the World
I watched a show about Mississippi when the race problem was on and couldn't help hearing in the voices of the white suppremist the same as one hears on here today toward anyone not white. Times never change I guess. We repeat our history if we don't lean from it. -
You know you all could be DEAD right, will that do you any good or your grandchildren for that matter. There are a lot of problems in this world and we need to look at them, not quibble about how something is worded.

Don't you think these two men could maybe fit the description of sociopaths that I listed on the conrad black post.
