Harper's 2008 election call to be challenged
fellowtraveller replied to Dave_ON's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That is correct, it is the mechanism by which the election may be forced. It is not a reason as such, the reason is nominally found in whatever bill was involved in the vote. -
Harper's 2008 election call to be challenged
fellowtraveller replied to Dave_ON's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That may be the single most pathetic post ever made on this forum. The $1 million paid back by the Lioberals was entirely and wholly their accounting. Of course the Liberals were not involved.....if you subscribe to the Rogue Bureaucrat Theory: Chuck Guite, rogue bureaucrat, one day discovered that he had control of a few hundred million dollars with no oversight and no direction from anybody on what to do with it. Acting alone and on a whim, he picked up the Montreal Yelow Pages and randomly sent huge checks to ad agencies. Imagine his surprise when he discovered every recipient was a Liberal supporter! -
Will there be a Federal Election in 2009?
fellowtraveller replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What is what? Usually your answers are incomprehensible, now you've expanded to questions too. "Winning big" is not necessarily Harpers only positive outcome. Winning small - a minority- is preferable to him to both a LIberal majority or Liberal minority. Source: "Insider Polling" -

Winning big is not the sole desireable outcome for Harper. -
Harper's 2008 election call to be challenged
fellowtraveller replied to Dave_ON's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Thank goodness for these 'groups' who are looking out for us little guys. Any news on their suit to recover all those hundreds of millions dished out to Liberal Party supporters in Adscam? They must be all over that one too..... -
Good faith has nothing to do with it. The rules for quailfication are not unclear, any worker can learn them and how and when they qualify for benefits. How? Like this-wrap up their local affairs, and get in their car and drive to a place where they can earn a living, instead of staying home and struggling to gain enough weeks to qualify for their entire lives. Being born and raised in a particular place does not mean the rest of your fellow citizens owe you a lifetime of paid seasonal leisure time.

Manitoba NDP leadership Race

If the NDP caucus could wait a few months, Jack Layton may be unemployed. -

I would not be too sure of that, Harper may or may not wish to see his govt fail at this time. -
PM to appoint Tory insiders to Senate

You claimed the Senate was doing the work it was intended too. Support your argument or shut yer piehole. -
Ignatieff pledges to erase deficit with no new taxes

Dude, you have to move past this delusion that the NDP is even on the horizon for Canadians. -

Yes, it will be on Ignatieffs lifelong achievements as a proud Canadian, including his commitment to a coalition. -
PM to appoint Tory insiders to Senate

" It was designed to protect the interests of regions. Explain how it does that now. -
PM to appoint Tory insiders to Senate
fellowtraveller replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Their work is makework, other than obstructing movement of legislation passed by the House. The Senate either needs to be abolished entirely, or made into a purposeful and useful arm of government. It is a sad, expensive joke on all of us now. -
I really doubt that anybody in the NDP or Liberals want to hear anything about any coalition.... but the Tory war machine will ensure that every Canadian hears about it many. many times. Bet on it. "A vote for Jack is a vote for Gilles"

PM to appoint Tory insiders to Senate

?? Surely you are not imagining that the Senate is some sort of forum for 'sober second thought'? -
PM to appoint Tory insiders to Senate

Your reputation for dishonesty is reconfirmed every day. Not noted are the terms under which Harper appoints Senators: they are for 8 year terms, and each appointee agrees to support Senate reform. Harper gaining control of the Senate itselfis but one step in Senate reform, but it won't happen as long as the Liberals hold a majority and delay change at their capricious worst. -
I'm not even talking about your bigotry, but I see how you'd just assume it.

No, he expressed a grotesquely bigoted sentiment and I responded appropriately. I won't tolerate it, and I don't let that pass. If you see those viewpoints as being of equal moral credibility, you're the one with the problem.

Why would any governemnt promise not to cut civil service jobs if there are savings there?

There is a simple reason why Layton wanted to meet with Harper: optics. Poor Jack has utterly vanished from the public eye while Harper gets daily press while travelling in the Arctic. Harper took the meeting ebcauswe he knows he must be seen to be at least trying to work with intransigent tools like Jack. Meanwhile, his party languishes in the polls, still a fringe party with little chance of influence in this or any Parliament, in large part because Jacko sees unrelenting, unthinking opposition as somehow endearing himself to voters. Little stunts like proclaiming his oppostion to an unseen budget don't go unnoticed, he looks a fool for this and a steadfast refusal to contribute anything to the actual governance of the country. He lives in the heady days of last fall, when for a few minutes he and the NDP had a slight glimmer of relevance, his brain is still inflamed at the memory of power observed at close range. Layton will ultimately be a blessing to both the Tories and Liberals.

Come now, your enthusiasm for the idea was longlived and sincere, don't try and pretend now you were just a plucky yet dispassionate observer. You found somethign that meshed with your heratfelt Liberal Party of Canada wet dream and ran hard with it. Few people joined your circlejerk though about Harper being in jeopardy, just as few joined the one you tried to organize around Harper engineeering a spring election. If you insist on being revisionist about your own failures, at least have the wit to wait a while.
-
It was just before you insisted there would be an election last spring. "The Knives are out for Harper, who will be his replacement" Forgotten already?

Last election Jack ran for Prime Minsiter and came up a few seats short. Maybe he is taking Stve for lunch in hope of getting a few tips.

None of the above. I expect the same from an immigrant as I do from any citizen: work hard and pay taxes.
