  1. Translation: Khadr will serve somewhere between a few days and a few months in a Canadian jail and will emerge a triumphant and persecuted hero to a significant chunk of Canadians. Like it or not, that's how we roll, folks.
  2. That is a completely bogus premise. The F-35s are a replacement for an aging generation of aircraft, which were a replacement for a previous generation. How does that constitute an increase in military power?
  3. What Omar will need and will get from backers like yourself is some cash for the lawsuit and a job pretty soon.
  4. predate:be earlier in time; go back further The Sopranos ran 1999-2007, The Wire 2002-2008. Simpsons still running for twenty years of so. Obviously The Wire was running while those were too, which is unlike the elderly shows tha make up the rest of the list.
  5. So you would support the execution of Khadr? An eye for an eye? He'll serve a year in the US, about two more in Canada though last night his lawyer said it would only be one more in Canada. They are definitely suing the CDN govt, according to the lawyer. They cannot sue the Americans under the plea agreeemnt..
  6. So it was more than $3000 per? I guess that makes it false and John Baird is a liar.
  7. No, at least two on the list-Sopranos and Simpsons, do not predate The Wire.
  8. There, fixed it for you, Wiki- style.
  9. Dexter has an excellent opener for current shows. The best in recent years was the first few seasons of Weeds. The theme song was the same in each epsiode, but it was done by a different artist for every episode. They also have the same titles but with different graphics to this day. Any Top Ten list that does not have The Wire at first or second is a joke.
  10. We should all be building sturdy shelves in our bunkers to store our Essential Bodily Fluids. It is the very first thing the Joos want to steal.
  11. What do you think about the Jew they just reelected to a third term in Edmonton? Is he more dangerous, flying under the Chruistian conservative radar? The Jews killed Jesus, you know.
  12. Apparently the relative merits of the journalist and the professor were self evident to the electorate.... IMO, somebody who spent 20 years as part of the political machinery of a city would be less qualified - or actually less desirable- than somebody who had not. Far too many friends, far too many enemies, and not enough objective perspective for the journalist. It is not necessary for any candidate to have extensive business or political experience. The actual business of the city is run by bureaucrats and always will be. What is paramount is a vision, a direction the mayor wants the city to move toward. And for Calgary, having a visible minority as Mayor is already a major step towards a rebranding of the place. Looks like Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver have some catching up to do.
  13. Doc, please delude yourself in private, it is embarassing to see you pull your drawers down in public. She was turfed out by the NDP and most specifically by Jack Layton because she spoke her mind and voted her conscience, neither of which was permitted in 'the most democratic of parties'. Speaking of Old Whities in Alberta, they just elected a Young Brownie in Calgary and just reelected a Middle Aged Jew(third term)in Edmponton. What can be next, pigs flying on the Prairies?
  14. Congratulations to the new mayor of Calgary, who took both his right as a citizen and his duty as a Calgarian seriously and got himself elected by getting the most support of any candidate.
  15. It does not work like that, if you live in Alberta you are automatically a rednecked racist pig. I heard that here. I know you are in Calgary, so you are a redneck too. Are you getting therapy, counselling, dermabrasion treatement?
  16. this is unpossible, Alberta is filled to the brim with rednecks.
  17. ??? What rage? Ypou don't understand why the families are upset? Is your name Dr Lecter? It is unlikely the survivors families are unable to read. And let us examine your notion that anybody will get fired. Porn is very popular and very profitable. Yet daily newspapers do not print porn. There is no reason to think they cannot simply report the situation without the nasty photos and nastier details of the torment of these poor women, and their families. The papers crossed a line they cannot uncross. Something simialr nearly happened, the papers lawyers campaigned long and hard to get the snuff movies made by Bernardo and Homolka. They'd have been on the internet in hours. Credit to the courts for keeping these dead children from an eternity of exploitation. On the other hand, the courts owed the families big time after screwing up the prosecution.
  18. Bev Desjarlais may feel differently about the Often Whipped NDP.
  19. Simple. You show a little respect to the dignity of the families of the victims, and to the several surviving victims themselves by not running the pics of Williams in lingerie, and do not publish the most salacious details of the crimes. Nobody is obliged to wallow in their own excrement. It is a choice.
  20. What an utterly depressing list of crap...... My choice is Intelligence, canned by the CBC for being too good.
  21. One debt the Liberals really made a dent in: the corporate accounts of many Liberal friendly advertising agencies in Quebec. Oh how I long for those carefree days.
  22. What is almost as sickening as Williams actions is the media coverage right now. This mornings paper has 3 large photos of Williams dressed in womens lingerie at crime scenes. I know what a mostly naked man looks like. I know what womens underwear looks like. I do not need to see the two combined in crime scene photos where the clothing may well belong to a raped and bloody corpse a few feet away. It is pure titillation and a gross insult to the victims of his crimes, to reduce the unspeakable things he has done to human beings to a freak show on Page 2. The media should be ashamed of themselves.
  23. The partisan zealots here are confusing pensions with social benefits. The Canada Pension Plan and Williams military pension are both actual pensions. You don't get any money out unless you have paid money in, and both Williams and Olson would be entitled to CPP. I doubt Harper or anybody else can do anything about that, and why should they since the money has nothing to do with their crimes? Note that in the quotes above, Harper does not mention pensions as such, because he cannot halt a pension earned.. What is at issue is Old Age Security benefits and OAS supplemental benefits. They are not entitlements and are also related to income. If you have a fat income, you don't get OAS or the OAS supplement. Williams wouldn't get much if any OAS benefit, his military pension plus CPP plus any RRSP type investment income would have him making far too much to collect. Olson may well collect. The government can stop OAS benefits, consdereing that unlike most Canadians Olson has 3 meals per day and a warm bed guaranteed at Her Majestys pleasure for the rest of his life.
  24. Translation: I'm going to plug my ears and go wa-wa-wa because the divisibility of Quebec(which the First Nations in Oka, James Bay etc will insist upon) is just too horrifying and real for separatistes to even speak of. And of course, the First Nations are not a pack of wussies like the ROC, they will shoot first and talk later. And at the first blood shed, the separatist movement is done like dinner.
  25. all of these things are very popular in Alberta. I'm not surprised that you are not surprised though. We know where the real rednecks are living.
