When I came to Canada, alone, with no support, parental or otherwise, not knowing any English or French, I did what you should do: Apply yourself, like your life depended on it, as mine did. How old are you? When I came to Canada, I was eighteen.

Being well informed would not hurt, either.

Michael, you will have a very easy job. Being and/or having been a participant of other forums, I can say that this is the 'laziest' forum I have ever seen. Some threads are not visited for days, even weeks. Passion on just about any topic is woefully lacking. If you have an obligation to fulfill your newly earned duty as a facilitator, it is convincing forum members to participate more frequently and more emotionally. One more thing: Make sure that rudeness and profanity will NEVER take hold, as this is the most civil public forum I have ever seen. Make sure it stays that way. Good Luck!!

In the Western world the puppy mills, the cruelty, the over-flowing dog pounds are the misdeeds of individuals who barely qualify to be called human. They are not sanctioned, blessed, practiced and dictated by a twisted and sick 'religion' that condones the whipping, stoning and killing of any woman who dares to be a woman. Dogs are unclean? Tell that to a blind person who can lead a near normal life with the help of a no-questions-asked love and devotion of a dog. It is safe to say that a dog has more of a human soul than a piece of garbage who calls dogs unclean. So, Shwa, roll your eyes, but tell the world: Do you now or did you ever have a canine friend?

The people who today prefer to be called 'African-Americans' demanded that the world use that terminology, at the risk of called RACIST otherwise. There was nothing wrong with "black" when the same people yelled, screeched and shouted that "BLACK IS BEAUTIFUL". They still use "COLORED" in the name of NAACP. They still use "BLACK CAUCUS" in describing African-American members of the United States Congress. (BTW, Republican blacks are NOT welcome). There is still a "BLACK" Miss America, Miss World and Miss Universe. There is BTV as in BLACK Television. And let us not forget that the word "NEGRO" means black in Spanish. Why aren't they content just being and being called AMERICANS??

Idiots - sorry for the redundancy - union members need thugs to negotiate for them, while they do not realize that they getting the crumbs while those who 'negotiate on their behalf' are stealing the loaf. I got out of the union as soon as my probationary period was up. I proudly crossed picket lines and worked while the greedy punks were freezing, carrying sandwich boards, spouting nonsense. I spoke for myself all my life. My bosses ALWAYS paid me, and I had no complaints about the amount, knowing my self-worth. Unions never paid me for anything. They will never pay anyone for anything. Let me go on the record and say that I abhor censorship of any kind, anywhere, anytime, having come from a formerly Communist country.
