Canada caters to France and their cultural ideologies
CANADIEN replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
It is exactly because the Charter, Ontario French Languages Services Act, and policies of municipalities like Ottawa do acknowledge and guarantee equal rights that nobody who as a clue would think of them as Nazi-like. The Nazis knew their ideology was Nazi. Duh. What would be Earth-shattering if I was not used to it is that you didn't even have a clue on the fact I was making fun of you. Even a warning that is was sarcasm was beyond your capacity to grasp. -
Protection of the English Language in Ontario Act
CANADIEN replied to CANADIEN's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Wnhy? You think law 101 is a good one? I don't. -
Somw on MLW think that English needs to be proected in Ontario through an act. I thought I'd help them by making a few suggestions. 1. English is the official language of Ontario 2. Every person has a right to have the civil administration, the health services and social services, the public utility enterprises, the professional corporations, the associations of employees and all enterprises doing business in Ontario communicate with him in English. 3. Workers have a right to carry on their activities in English. 4. English is the language of the legislature and the courts in Ontario. 5. English is the official language of business. 6. Every employer shall draw up his written communications to his staff in the official language. He shall draw up and publish his offers of employment or promotion in English. 7. An employer is prohibited from dismissing, laying off, demoting or transferring a member of his staff for the sole reason that he is exclusively English-speaking or that he has insufficient knowledge of a particular language other than English. 8. An employer is prohibited from making the obtaining of an employment or office dependent upon the knowledge or a specific level of knowledge of a language other than the official language. 9. Instruction in the kindergarten classes, in the elementary and secondary schools and in colleges and universities shall be in English.

CANADIEN replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
A leading Islamic Iman? Sure. Half of the board at the mosque decided to go overseas to get themselves an iman because they didn't find one available here, and the other half kept saying "too bad for him, but we want a Canadian iman". Not my definition of a leading anything. -

I am going to Europe next month. Two weeks. If I wanted to stay there over three months, I would have to apply for a visi, which would be refused if they thought that I want to stay there permanently. I must be a dangerous would-be terrorist, right? -

Not you. Some groups claiming to be Christian advocate the bombing of abortion clinics. Any Christian could be a member of such group. Abortion clinics are going to be bombed, again. This is not a matter of if, but rather a matter of when. And there will be all sorts of people (again) finding excuses. Bottom line is. Prove me that an individual is a security risk, and I will believe that person is a security risk. Supposition fuelled by bigotry do not qualify as proof. -

I agree that anyone who is here illegally and is ordered to be deported should be arrested, held until any appeal they may be legally entitled to, thn shipped out. That being said, how do you know that this individual was ordered deported because he represent of his religion or opinions? Unless of course we are to assume like you that Muslim = terrorist. Especially considering the facts as reported, which is that a - his visa is still valid, and has not been revoked; up to the day when his visa expires, he still has a legal right to be in the country b - his request for a work permit has been refused, on the ground that the board at his mosque could not agree on hiring him or not (in other words, his right to hold a job within Canada is not clear). If you know as a fact that he is a terrorist, a would be terrorist, or has promoted terrorism, feel free to prove it. Otherwise, this looks like another ignorant and bigoted rant of yours. -

CANADIEN replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Typical Lefless, as in... You can't bring any proof to your claim that English-speaking Canadians are being assimilated, so now you claim "there cannot be any assimilation happening". Ever been to Caracet, Heast, Saint-Hyacinthe? Let me clarify what most everyone, ecept you of course, has already figured out. The only place where euqality of right is Nazi-like is in your brain. Duh... it is obviou s there are none, since there are no Nazi-like Canadian language laws. Most countries in the world have laws that govern what lnaugage(s0 are to be used in government, including the delivary of services to citizens. They range from: - official bingualism (or multilingualism) with euqal status for more than one language (Filand, as an example) - to one language being predominent in government use, with various degress of linguistic rights for national minorities (from bascially none in Latvia to quazi-official status for regional languages in some part of Germany) - to outright forced assimilation (Thibet or three historical examples you will love: residential schools in northern Canada, school policies in most Canadian provinces until the 1970's, and the Welsh Not) Virtually no country does not have at least one language recognized as the linguage of public administration and services. No surprise here, you do not (as usual) know what you are talking about. (warning, what follows is sarcasm) And French-speaking Canadians are forced to learn English for certain government jobs, including, oh horrors of horrors, certain jobs in the Government of Quebec. Some private business even force people to speak some foreign languages in order to get a job, under the poor excuse that they do business overseas. What's next, they'll force people to know the law if they want to become lawyers" (end of sarcasm) -
Or he forgot to mention it.

Never mind that the rampant sexuality you claim does not occur, right? Or that only people prone to knee-JERK reactions would confuse any criticism of the government of Israel with anti-Semitism. Well, at least you no longer lciam that bodily fluids fly all over the place or children are being touchedthe wrong way. I'll call that progress.

Canada caters to France and their cultural ideologies
CANADIEN replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Me kwttle, you pot. And a very large one at that. You realize of course that in that (faulty) comparison, it was the nine other provincial premiers and the PM brandishing the knives? Oops sorry, you don't, oh well And the way you do everytime you see French on a cereal box. Which causes you to clamour for the same type of laws you denounce. You still can't bring any kind of proof to your claim that English-speaking Canadians are being assimilated, no matter how you rephrase it or try to change the definition. BTW, feel free to make a big(ger) fool of yourself by screaming "Nazi" everytime you are short on logic (which would be all the time) to describe legislation you would applaud if the words English and French were reversed on it. It only proves how clueless and hypocritical you are. -
While am unilingual Supreme Court judge would be at a disadvantage when arguments are made in the other language, this disadvantage would be compensated to at least some extent through interpretation (which I suppose the SCC has). While every Canadian has a right to use either English or French if their case appears in the SCC, it is not necessary that each and every judge be bilingual. This means of course, btw, that an unilingual Francophone could sit on the SCC, right? I know thought it would not sit well with those who think only English should be permitted.

correction... what else can be expected from someone as clueless as you. Nobody whose first language is either English or French is forced to abandon their language - to change and become French- or English-speaking Canadians - in other words, to assimilate. Even you cannot be cluesless to the point of believing that. And if you do, prove it. But then, those proof are like your so-called Nazi language policies - a figment of your imagination. -
eah right, they believe bodily fluids have wings and travel in the air.

Catholic Sex Abuse Criticism = Anti-Semitism?
CANADIEN replied to Smallc's topic in Religion & Politics
Thw "we're attacked by out ennemies" defense is indeed pathetic, as you say. And those who use it miss the boat completely. This is not about the percentage of child molestors in the priesthoo, how whether or not the Church's bureacracy acted differently from other bureaucracies. It's about the fact that members of the Church hierachy have betrayed the victims, the universal Church and God. As a Catholic, I believe the Church has been entrusted with being a witness to the Truth. This denial, this hiding game, this concern for image over justice is not bearing witness to the Truth. Those responsible have to come forward and face the consequences of their actions. Do I hold my Church and its pastors to a higer standard? You bet I do. The authority the Church claims, and its service to God, demand no less. -
Here we go with the hyperbole again... A few hundreds women wearing the burka today, all being forced to convert tomorrow. I am not in favour of the burka, and it is not unreasonable to expect people to uncover their face when using public services that requires identification. But the State has no business dictating what people should or should not wear.

Polish President Killed in Plane Crash
CANADIEN replied to nicky10013's topic in The Rest of the World
Sad inded. For the country, for the family. The political orientation of the party in power has nothing to do with how tragic of a lostt it is. -
His status is irrelevant. If he believes that the school is acting against the law, he is right to raise the issue.

A prayer is not a discussion about religion. It is the practice of a specific religion. Quite a difference.
-
And what about those individuals (parents or students) who do not want it? If others can have the Lord Prayer's, can't they get their prayer too (if they are of another faith) or just be exempted from the whole thing all together? Or is it that the will of the majority supercedes individual rights?
-
This is more than a routine, this is a prayer. And a prayer IS religion. Nobody should have to take part in it unless they choose to.

Another Obama First Pitch
CANADIEN replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Why you hate Obama is noi an issue indeed. What is becoming a growuing issue though is that you'll use anything to attack, without considering the whole of the issue. Like in... Forgive me if I am suspicious that it is what you're trying. Two people (I'm one) have provided on your thread about the census a possible (and I believe plausible) explanation. That you won't even address it says little about your interest in finding out why and a lot about the fact that what you care about is having things you can use to attack Obama.
