israeli foreign minister wants to support a terrorist organization
Bob replied to bud's topic in The Rest of the World
While that is technically true, it's misleading. The proportion of Canadians composed of the CPC, NDP, LPC, and BQ is also a "TINY percentage", but most of us vote, right? Gaza won a majority vote in a supposedly fair(ish) election overseen by none other than the fabulous Jimmy Carter. What's your point, anyways? That Israel shouldn't defend itself from terrorism perpetrated by a "TINY percentage" of the "Palestinians"? -
Who's your ISP?

Have a problem with high prices for telecommunications in Canada? Abolish the CRTC and you'll be fine. They protect the vested corporate interests, primarily by keeping out foreign competition. If large companies like AT+T/Cingular, Verizon, or Orange were permitted to establish and operate networks in Canada, we'd see a drastically cheaper market as a result of increased competition. That's why we have these stupid 60 gig limits in Canada. Such bandwidth limits are unheard of in the USA or Israel, for the sake of providing two examples.

It says a lot about Canadian political culture that criticism of the CBC and calls for its privatization seem to have only arisen in recent months with the arrival of Sun News. We're so far to the left in this country it's embarrassing, when state-media is no aggressively defended by so many as some sort of tempering force against the evil privately-owned corporate media (most of which is left-wing, anyways!).

UN independent panel rules Israel blockade of Gaza illegal
Bob replied to bud's topic in The Rest of the World
All other issues are secondary to Israeli security. That includes any possibility that Gazan fishing has been negatively impacted by the blockade. Our lives are more important than their fish. And if they want the fish that bad, all they need to do is stop the terrorism and arms smuggling. Simple. Again, every other consideration takes a back seat to our security, including their security. -
Unfortunately that seems to be their perspective. Perspectives such as mine are given no time whatsoever in mainstream dialogue. It tells you how far to the left we've gone in Canada. It's really sad. I do believe, however, that there is a sizable portion of Canadians who feel as I do. It's just they feel excluded for various reasons. Hopefully this will change over time as leftism continues to erode this country and drain the patience of the Canadians I am speaking of. It is never too late.

I've already addressed all of those issues. That fascism permits private ownership (with extreme government control), isn't a meaningful distinction in practise. Lastly, communism does indeed have an international focus whereas fascism is nationally-oriented... yes, that's true, but at the end of the day it's not a meaningful distinction separating fascism from contemporary leftist politics. It's obvious you didn't read my earlier posts in this thread, so I'll stop indulging you with responses. Like I said, I already addressed everything you mentioned.

And those "conservative" governments aren't really conservative, are they? Just because the GOP or CPC use conservative rhetoric doesn't make them real conservatives. We don't have real conservatism in Canada. When the CPC and Harper are defined as "right-wing", when in fact they are not, you know you've got serious flaws in your public discourse.

Gap between rich and poor rising faster in Canada
Bob replied to Rick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
But I didn't say all of the left were pathetic or losers, did I? Maybe I should have phrased it better, but I was specifically talking about the pathetic losers of the left, which is not the same as saying that all of the left is composed of pathetic losers. -
Obama's Protectionist Job Bills Is Bad For Canada
Bob replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let's not forget that Harper did his own version of "protectionism" (albeit in a slightly different manner...) by bailing out the auto companies. That was unjustifiable public support of a private enterprise. That's our "right-wing" leader pandering to unions and leftist politics about "saving jobs"... -
Gap between rich and poor rising faster in Canada
Bob replied to Rick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There's this mentality among those pathetic losers on the left who think they can just vote and take whatever they want from whoever they want. As long as they get enough votes, they think, what's yours is theirs. It's really sick, but it's the natural consequence of a leftist indoctrination campaign that exists in our society that reviles "the rich" and lionizes the pathetic white trash and "refugee" immigrants (i.e. many Somalians) who live in subsidized housing and have more children than they can afford to take care of. Remember, they have lower incomes than you do... because of you! It's your fault, and they'll just take whatever they want from you with enough votes and repulsive politicians like Dalton McGuinty who pander to minority/identity-politics. -

I don't care about them. I want a secure military victory over our enemies. This "winning hearts and minds" absurdity from the left (that includes Bush, who certainly subscribed to many leftist perspectives) is insanity. Get in there, give 'em hell, and get out. And if they get out of line again, mow the lawn. It blows my mind that America has the most advanced military technology in the world, and spends so much money on all of this, yet never seems to really use its power. Prosecuting these "half-wars" while placing soldiers in incredibly dangerous situations exclusively for the purpose of reducing the likelihood of harm befalling "civilians" is exactly what leads to long, drawn-out wars with high casualties. How else do you explain how a military like America's with her allies is still in a primitive and pathetic country like Afghanistan? The answer - America doesn't have the will to actually go in and do what's necessary to secure a military victory. Bleeding hearts... -
100% agreed, and that's just based on the excerpt you've pasted in your OP. I would add one important thing to this important point, that the left hates the responsibility that comes with being free. Freedom is a two-sided coin, with responsibility being the other side that the left wishes to erase. This woman is just another rat journalist doing her thing as an apparatchik for what Ezra Levant and other accurately describe as the "consensus media". They fancy themselves as anointed, the philosopher kings and queens of our time who will guide us to perfection with their intellects and benevolence.

Good luck explaining how fascism has anything in common with contemporary conservatism - which advocates for less government control across the board (economically and through social engineering). At the end of the day, inconvenient truth is that fascism has many more parallels to contemporary politics on the left than the right - which makes the lie of fascism being a form of the "extreme right wing" (when it is completely counterintuitive to contemporary conservatism) that much more absurd. At this point, all we've seen are attempts to mock me without any serious posts. You folks all grovel and worship at the feet of the "common wisdom" of fascism being a right-wing ideology. It's funny and sad at the same time.

When has everyone ever said that all Muslims should be killed? I've certainly ever seen anything said like that. -
Absolutely, but their negligence over controlling their own territory resulted in their country being used as a base of operations for terrorists, including the perpetrators of 9/11. So, at this point, they're involved - whether they like it or not. The difficulty is in differentiating the difference between the "good" ones and the "bad ones". And the Islamist filth do everything they can to obfuscate these differences, effectively taking advantage of absurd leftist politics. The enemies of the West know that the West, as it is today, doesn't have the will to utterly destroy her enemies. When the day comes that rats like Osama bin laden and his supporters know that real shock and awe will be delivered if they ever cross us, then terrorism will largely be defeated. The we'll see a real live and let live world.

State control over the means of production is a leftist value. The only nuanced difference is fascism is that the interests remain owned in private hands (to some degree), with massive government control over how those means of production can be utilized. That results in essentially the same thing as communism. The only reason for fascistic opposition to communism is the international focus of communism, which would essentially destroy nations and meld them into one homogenous whole (the dream of all communists). Fascism is a leftist ideology, period. It has FAR more in common with the contemporary left than with the contemporary right. This idea that "extreme right-wing" politics provide an equally despicable political iteration to communism is just another widely-perpetuated lie that you, bloodyminded, and others subscribe to.

Canadian Human Rights Commission

Definitely, freedom of speech is the way to go in Canada. The HRTs have become a political tool for those interested in playing the game of minority/identity-politics. I hate it. -
UN independent panel rules Israel blockade of Gaza illegal
Bob replied to bud's topic in The Rest of the World
Yes, because the "Palestinians" were completely detached from the Holocaust, right? I mean, the "Palestinians", being as virtuous as they are, probably even OPPOSED Hitler's mass murder of Jews, right? Oh wait... -
I'm not advancing an original idea, here. I'm simply repeating the reality that is the lie of fascism being an "extreme right-wing" ideology. At the end of the day, it is the left that supports greater government control over the economy and culture, which is much more in-line with fascism than the contemporary right-wing. My position is not my own, but one from honest scholars and intellectuals. As I've already said, off the top of my head I remember this same idea being advanced by Thomas Sowell, who certainly has "intellectual" credentials. Fascism is a leftist ideology, despite the stupid spectrum you may or may not have studied in your Poli-Sci 101 class during your first year at university.

It's funny reading posts from uninvolved posters on MLW who have no stake whatsoever in the events of the conflict between Israel and the Arabs about how "sick and tired" they are with the ongoing problems. Yes, poor you, having to endlessly post in MLW about all of your moral outrage and frustrations. Boo-hoo. Keep acting as if you've got any connection to this conflict, you may fool somebody sometime.

Oh please, another cheap attempt to blame America for the sickness of Arab/Muslim societies. They're anti-democratic with or without the West. People like you act as if democracy, freedom, and prosperity are the default states of being for society until some evil outside force (in this case, the USA) comes in and messes with the social machinery. Absurd. -
Hitler sure did give a damn about us, he went to great lengths to murder all of us. Me not giving a damn about the people of Afghanistan is totally different, despite your feigned outrage and imaginary moral superiority. I would wager that you've done as much as I have to help the people of Afghanistan. In other words, you've done nothing (aside from pretending to care about them in an online discussion forum). I wish no harm upon them, but I absolutely oppose any assistance being given to them whatsoever. They are responsible for themselves, and if they can't manage their own country well enough to prevent our enemies from waging war against us from their land, then we reserve the right to "mow the lawn", as it were. Hitler tried to exterminate the Jewish people, and I am simply stating that I don't give a damn about the people of Afghanistan (just as they, at best, don't give a damn about us), which is hardly the same as actively hating them or wishing for their destruction.
-
Excuse me madame, but there is a WORLD of difference between not giving a damn about Afghanistan and its people (and I certainly don't give a damn about them), and wishing harm upon them. The terrorists went to, and continue to go to, great lengths to murder as many people as possible. I do not wish any harm on the people of Afghanistan, so why are you comparing my sentiment to those of the terrorist filth? What I wish is for the West to secure its military objectives and stop obsessing over the "civilians" of another nation while increasing the risk to our soldiers an the completion of the mission. All America and her allies need to do is destroy the enemy's ability to wage war. If the people get out of line in the future, then go back and "mow the lawn", so to speak. Stop trying to change these animals by building them schools and sending in "consultants" to teach them how to be democratic and pluralistic. If they wish to be barbarians, let them be barbarians. And if their barbarism again spills out of their neighbourhood and threatens us - go in again and trim the hedges. I understand the desire to fight by "the rules", but it is clear to me that America is going way too far in order to build up Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as giving billions of dollars to hostile governments that rule of hostile populations (cases in point - Pakistan and Egypt, primarily). I stand by my original assertion - America and the West seem to have lost the ability to actually be aggressive enough and win.

If you want an example, you can check out Thomas Sowell's "Intellectuals and Society". The fact remains that fascism has much more in-line with real-world leftists and very little in common with real-word people on the right. We believe in freedom from government control/coercion, whereas the left believes in grand ideas and social engineering (via government control). Fascism is a leftist ideology and describing it as "extreme right" is just a lie that has been propagated by many, including many "scholars" and "intellectuals".
