Hollywood Actor Tweets The President Should Die
kimmy replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Arts and Culture
The whole idea that "they're okay with it" is entirely an assumption. Trump didn't know if they were actually okay with it or not, he just assumed they were because he assumed all women were available to a big star like himself. Women had a variet of reasons to pretend to be OK with being molested by Trump, even if they weren't. Ghomeshi got away with it for years. The management at CBC systematically ignored complaints against him and did a sham investigation of allegations. The CBC only admitted the problem when it came to light after the unrelated sex assault charges against Ghomeshi were laid. All that the women at CBC ever received from Ghomeshi was a self-serving apology. He absolutely got away with it, because CBC management took the same attitude that you've taken here. What we know from Trump's quote is that he thought he was a big star who could grab women by the pussy without asking. Why would you defend a guy like that? -k -

That they're ok with it is entirely an assumption on his part. That they want to be molested by him is entirely his assumption. He assumes they're ok with this behavior because he always gets away with it. It's more than likely that some or more of the women Trump molested were not "OK" with it at all, and didn't take action against him because they feared for their careers or feared getting sued by the lawsuit-happy sex predator. Ghomeshi, just like Trump, just assumed that he was entitled to act the way he did, because he was a big star. And just like Trump, Ghomeshi always got away with it. It's the same story. -k -

@bcsapper Go read some of the statements from the women who worked with Jian Ghomeshi and see how they felt about their experience with the "I can do whatever I want to these women because I'm a star" mentality. -k -

And how does he know? Is he a telepath? Do women carry signs around saying "grab my pussy" when they come to Trump events? Do they sign a waiver before they walk in the door? You seem to be saying that because relatively few women have sought legal remedy for his behavior, he didn't do anything wrong in grabbing women without permission. -k -

He doesn't ask if they're ok before he starts grabbing. That was the whole point of what he was saying. "I'm such a big deal that I don't even have to ask, I just take." -k -

I don't know about "rapist", but someone who goes around grabbing people's genitals without asking permission is clearly a sexual predator by any reasonable definition. -k -

I'm pointing out that he didn't say anything about asking permission. He said he didn't need to ask whether women were "ok" with it before he started molesting them. On what planet is that ok? The whole point of his rant was to tell Billy Bush how he's such a big "star" that he doesn't have to ask permission. -k -

What offends me is that you're defending the idea that grabbing someone's genitals without consent isn't a sexual assault. -k -

As people keep trying to explain to you: the problem is that Trump (by his description) doesn't make any effort to find out whether women are "OK" with it before he starts molesting them. He clearly thinks that since he is "a star" women are always OK with whatever he does. If you go up to people and start sexually molesting them without bothering to find out whether they're "OK" with it, you're a sex predator. Period. Even if you don't end up in jail. -k -

As Omni said earlier: if you go to court with that concept of consent, you're going to lose. "She didn't fight back so I thought I had consent..." isn't going to work. -k -

And again what part of Trump's comment makes it sound like he bothers to find out if they're "ok" with it? He talks about popping some tic-tacs in case he starts kissing Ariana Zucker. He talks about how he just starts kissing, how he doesn't even wait. He says he can do anything he likes to women, because he's a star. But somehow you've got this notion that he asks before he grabs their pussies. Why is that? -k -

And what about Trump's comment makes it sound like asks whether she agrees before he does the grabbing? -k -

Whether she yells at him, knocks him out, complains to the HR manager later, suffers in silence, or whatever doesn't make what he did any more or less of a crime. -k -

Trump apologized because his comments revealed him to be an utter ass. The people who leaked to video gave us a look at what a contemptible individual he is. They have nothing to apologize for. -k -

What Trump said is this, when they noticed Ariana Zucker: If you walk up to a woman and kiss her or grab her genitals, that's a sexual assault. Whether she slaps your face afterward, or whether she kisses you back afterward, you started things off by acting like a predator. Maybe Trump feels that women let him do anything because none of them slap his face or call the police afterward, but that doesn't make it any less appalling. Personally, if someone walks up to me and grabs my genitals, they're getting a concussion. His attitude is clearly "I am a big deal so I am entitled to have access to women's bodies." Much like when he was bragging to Howard Stern that since he runs the beauty pageants he is entitled to walk into the changing room to look at the nude girls. -k -

I think that if a deranged guy wants to go on Twitter and say crap and let the whole world know that he's a few cards short of a full deck, that's up to him. Who knows, people might like what he has to say. It could even lead to public office. Who knows. -k -
I think that everybody can agree that genocide, in the actual meaning of the word, is a bad thing. But now that the word "genocide" is being applied to everything from interracial dating to the disappearance of aboriginal language and music, to the threat posed to French-Canadian culture by Anglo media ... genocide is now a "who cares?" thing, to me. I don't care if First Nations dance-steps are lost to the pages of history, or if French Canadians start talking like Anglos, or if people of different races want to date. Is it time to apply a moratorium on the misuse of the word genocide, or invent a new word that means what genocide used to mean? Before Christmas, State Farm posted an advertisement that showed a black man proposing to a white woman. White Nationalists were #Triggered and took to Twitter to denounce it as "white genocide". This professor mocked their response with his own Tweet, and now the same White Nationalists are saying "white genocide" means violent extermination, not interracial marriage. They have one definition that they can use when it's useful to them, and a second definition they can use to attack their opponents. "White genocide" is no joke. It is a very real thing, and it is happening... in rural South Africa. In North America, not so much. -k

It appears they were kinder to the Israelites than the Israelites were to the Canaanites. -k

Who said they were? I just said it was the most violent one I've heard of. It's their own account, as described in their own book. Why is that upsetting to you? -k

Bacon tastes good! I never get tired of bacon. -k -
hmm? I just thought of the most violent colonizations I've heard of, and that was the one that came out on top. I'm referring to the events described in the Old Testament, not anything in modern times, if that's what you're on about. -k
-
That's a tough question. I mean, at least they didn't just frickin annihilate all the inhabitants when they arrived here, like when the Israelites marched into Canaan. But the aftermath of British colonization sure wasn't very good for the people who were here when they arrived. -k

...but he will anyway. Just as the Trump Presidential Campaign used RNC funds to purchase millions of dollars of Trump accommodations, Trump venues, Trump catering, Trump services, and of course copies of "The Art of the Deal" to give as thank-you presents for donotions, you can fully expect that the Trump Presidency will likewise prove to be bigly lucrative for Trump's businesses. It will be YUGE! -k

On the one hand, I feel pretty lucky to have grown up in a country that was colonized by the British Empire. Overall, I think Canada, the US, Australia, and New Zealand rank pretty highly among the best places to live. On the other hand, I sure would not have wanted to be the path of said colonization. -k

Which problem would that be, again? If you're referring to the "whiteness" problem, I think that people like dialamah and hernanday have made it clear that yes, white women are part of the "whiteness" problem. Also, non-white feminists are pretty mad at white feminists right now, because a lot of white women voted for Trump which is somehow our fault. Or are you referring to some other "problem"? -k
