Appeals court sides with elections Canada...
Bryan replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Please. There are several links in this thread alone. This is not even remotely a controversial assertion, all parties financed their campaigns this way. It was standard procedure, fully disclosed, and Elections Canada never had an issue with it before. -
Appeals court sides with elections Canada...
Bryan replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It this case, it's not as if any of the accused candidates even received the rebate. They didn't spend taxpayers money, they fully documented the transactions, and they did not go over their spending limits either. The weren't trying to hide anything. This is a difference of opinion about accounting. Given that two judges have now seen it in different ways, it's also highly debatable whether they even broke the rules in transferring federal party money to help out the local candidates. Just because the money came from the national party, doesn't mean it was not legitimately used by the local candidate. Elections Canada was never concerned about this method of accounting when it was the Liberals, NDP or the Bloc doing it, why is it suddenly a scandal when the Conservatives do it? This "do as we say, not as we do" attitude of the sycophants for the 'Natural Ruling Party' is getting a little tiring. The good part is, the Liberal witch hunt is getting so desperate, it's simply turning people off. The more they squawk about these fake scandals, the higher the CPC support gets. -
These are Secular Popular Revolts....
Bryan replied to bloodyminded's topic in The Rest of the World
It's either that, or more American puppet dictators. Actual secular democracy? Now that would shock me. -
They're stopping people from murdering babies. It's good deed no matter who's name its done in.

Why do religious people think I care what they believe?
Bryan replied to scouterjim's topic in Religion & Politics
Bingo. They know you don't care, that's what motivates them. -
Should we make blank write-in space mandatory on all ballots?
Bryan replied to Machjo's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Great, as long as anyone who votes "none of the above" shows up to their EDA and puts their name forward as a candidate for the 're-run'. -
What I stated is 100% accurate. As seems to be a pattern here, the issue is your limited reading comprehension.

I never said he was.

And that was supposed to me a meaningful response? It's got nothing to do with contempt for the system. It's about understanding that there is a vast difference between how the system actually works and how the public ceremony is presented.
-
LOL. You probably think the Queen actually has any say over our parliament too.
-
Please. The Prime Minister gives his "recommendation" as to who the house should vote for speaker, and the house votes for that person. That is not my opinion, it's how it actually works. Hint: there's a reason why the media always knows who the speaker is going to be before the vote is held. Because he's already been picked.

Should there be changes for the working poor?
Bryan replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think both sides of this debate actually agree with that statement, they just interpret it to mean different things. What I say is, if you can't pay your bills on minimum wage, then don't. Don't work for minimum wage, that is. If you can't find a better paying job, at least do something that supplements that wage. A second job, a home based-business, some sort of freelance work, even just make sure that minimum wage job is one that pays good tips. I know two people who have quit secure well-paying unionized jobs to go be waiters -- specifically because with tips, they were actually clearing more money. -
Does The NDP Still Have A Reason To Exist
Bryan replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Except that they aren't corporate. They are still by far the most grassroots party we have in Canada. -
It only seems like higher buying power if you don't look at both sides of the equation. Being able to afford to buy more crap at Menards has a residual cost. When our dollar was much lower, it meant Canadian businesses could actually charge less than foreign competitors, yet still end up with more money after conversion. Now they have to charge more or they lose money, which often means losing customers. Which leads to lost revenue. Which leads to lost jobs. Unemployed people and bankrupt businesses don't usually have a whole lot of buying power. So, yes, a higher dollar is a bad thing.

If he was really half as powerful as people (and the media) tend to think he/she is, Harper would not have appointed* a Liberal. Especially not with a rabid coalition-ready united opposition inventing faux scandal after faux scandal. *Yes, I know there is a vote in the house. But that too is just ceremony. The house votes for the one that the Prime Minister appoints.

Where in Cuba were they? People I know who needed medical care while I was in Cuba last month (coincidentally also for a scooter accident) received excellent care in Santa Lucia. They were very pleased.

It amazes me how the right condemn "socialist dictators", but
Bryan replied to scouterjim's topic in The Rest of the World
Without question. Sicko was not banned in Cuba. They are extremely proud of that movie. It was shown in theatres, on national TV, and the clips from it are posted on a Cuban Government website. -
Actually, he can. He already has several times. Both the Queen and the GG are ceremonial figure heads. They make the final decision, but they "decide" what the Prime Minister tells them to decide.
-
Even if the speaker did rule Oda in contempt, I fully expect Harper to ignore it.

Man going to live on Canadian products only 2011.
Bryan replied to Topaz's topic in Arts and Culture
You got me thinking about that. Surely, my Ariens snowblower is made in the USA... >>>runs and checks<<< Sort of. Briggs and Strattan engine, otherwise built in China. I just finished building a new kitchen. All from Home Depot. Fancy Maytag stainless steel appliances: China. Custom built cabinets? China. Faucets, electrical, flooring, handles, etc, etc, all China. The one thing that wasn't Chinese is the marble countertops, They're from a rural Manitoba quarry. Over $20,000, and not a single American product in the bunch. -
If there were an actual armed uprising here, we'd expect and applaud it being dealt with the same way too. Heck we might even complain that they weren't doing enough.
-
There most certainly are privately owned hospitals in Manitoba.

Wafergate, Oda, Guergis, Raitt & Pepper Spray
Bryan replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of course it's deniable. She ALWAYS maintained that she didn't alter the document personally, but that she did instruct her staff to do it in her absence. What was the lie? -

Oda never denied responsibility for making the change.
