  1. That's YOUR opinion. Such as it is. And you have the relationship exactly backwards. Opinions I can abide, it's when people try to invent their own facts that I object. You want one example, I'll give you one. The case where the Manitoba Judge ruled that ending the Wheat Board monopoly without a plebiscite was contrary to its charter. The absolute fact is, that judge was wrong. It's not my opinion, it's black and white. The plebiscite that judge cites is in the section "other grains", specifically you have to get a vote of farmers to change which grains it covers. There is nothing requiring a plebiscite to allow farmers freedom to market outside of the CWB. That judge can't even read the material in front of him. He sure as hell is not "better able to make a decision" on anything.
  2. Really? Please provide links to CBC stories of robo-call election fraud being perpetrated against the Conservatives during the last election. Please show me all of the posts on this site where the same people crying foul about the CPC were calling the LPC and NDP criminals over it.
  3. I've commented on several of them on this forum in recent weeks. Your response was little more than shrugging your shoulders.
  4. When you look at the kinds of decisions they've been making (especially lately), clearly they are not better able to make rational decisions. Increasingly, they make their decisions based on their personal biases, and completely disregard the facts. Where it gets dangerous, is when they get called on it, and people like you take the position that you take; "meh, they know what they're doing". That's how the elites really do start calling the shots.
  5. Lots of Conservatives got calls and letters during the last election telling them the wrong polling location. Some candidates pleaded with EC to look into it at the time, but EC didn't think it was serious: http://www.scottreid.ca/index.php/media-centre/137-disenfranchise-thousands Not surprisingly, when it was CPC candidates that might have been affected, neither the CBC, nor Elections Canada, nor any of the phoney democracy defenders on this site thought it was news. It's only when it looks like it might have affected an NDP or LPC candidate that it becomes serious.
  6. You'd lose that bet.
  7. Sixty-one per cent said capital punishment is warranted for murder. When was the last time we had that much agreement for anything in this country? So we also are seeking much stiffer prison sentences. There's no such thing as a 'rest-of-your-life' sentence in Canada, but half the people in this country wish there were. So much for the opposition to recent tough on crime measures, most people wish they were much tougher. This must be a Sun News story, right? What? Angus Reid and the Toronto Star? LOL! http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/politics/article/1127764--majority-of-canadians-support-return-of-death-penalty-poll-finds
  8. Vinyl pressing? Good god, how old are you?
  9. All he's really proven is that a lot of people haven't bothered to change all of their old documentation. It doesn't mean everyone is using those units of measurement.
  10. What reason would I have to know that?
  11. I was born before 1969. That was a pretty cute "back in my day" though. Please, tell me to get off of your lawn next!
  12. If you're looking for ways and reasons to avoid metric, you must be a lot older than I thought!
  13. BC, You seem to be repeating the point that was already made: old-timers hold on to old things. So?
  14. Estimated by who? Pat Martin? If they cost anywhere near that much, they would not be in such increased usage. People use them because it's cheaper than making the calls yourself. My daughter's school uses a robo-caller for announcements and such, and they use it because it costs a lot less than any other solution available.
  15. SI is not the system that we use. They have several units in common, but also several differences.
  16. The NHL head office is in New York. Most of the teams are too. Hockey Canada measurements are in metric. Some rule books do include the other measures in parentheses.
  17. What's the line that makes one an old-timer? I'm 44. The flash-point of paper is not something I ever remember learning for any reason. Why would old people know this?
  18. I have no idea. The only Flashpoint I'm familiar with is the TV show.
  19. No doubt, fahrenheit is a dumb system, switching to celsius was really easy. Temps in F don't even mean anything to me anymore. Someone could tell me 50-80-100, I'll have no idea what that even means. Height and weight holdovers are weird. They are specifically limited to people. I can tell how tall I am in feet and inches, but if you tell me something is 300ft long, I really have no idea what that means. A pint is just the name of the "big glass" to us. If you asked a Canadian how much it holds, they would start trying to estimate in ml. I don't know anyone who thinks of gas prices in gallons. They are universally posted in litres. Litres /100 km does mess some people up, but that's because they not only changed two units of measure, they reversed the relationship. Actually, as far as I've seen, ALL liquid measures in Canada are litres and ml, there has not been any holdover that I know of. I buy a 750ml bottle of rum, not a 24oz, for instance. There's no oz on any bottle of anything in my fridge or my liquor cabinet. ???I've never seen ANY meat sold in lbs.??? Grams and kgs is universal, and it's so much easier to estimate!
  20. Those robo-dialer services are really cheap and really easy to use. All you need is an excel file, it's really easy. Nobody would need any "resources". Far more incredulous to me is the Liberals expecting me to believe the Conservatives had copies of their supporter lists for all those ridings. And the National Post has not been anything even remotely resembling a "conservative outlet" for a some time.
  21. "They" aren't the ones proposing this, a couple of university economists are. If there is one thing I wish they'd do with all taxes (new and old), it's actually account them for the things they were proposed to be for. Gas tax for infrastructure, GST for paying debt, lotteries for sports, sin taxes for healthcare, etc. Don't dump these things into general revenue, then pick and choose what goes where later. Make them separate line items that are fully accounted for like CPP and EI. Something this simple just makes too much sense. Government's of all stripes don't tend to do simple things with respect to income tax. For some reason, they always want to make it more complicated.
  22. I'd be quite surprised if Harper has not met Desmarias, but I can't see how it would be news either way. Important people do tend to have at least met a lot of other important people.
  23. It was illegal. EC did say so, even went to far as to explicitly ban anyone from holding such ballots again. They did allow the ballots cast to stand so that those who voted before the scam was shut down were not disenfranchised.
