  1. That's fair, and I accept my assertion that it can't be anything more than a derp-for-derp exchange. Well, semantics aside, I don't see any evidence from you or anyone else disputing the opinion of the cut 'n paste headline. So I'll assume that some information is more accurate than no information. Again, you can play games, but what is the employment rate of immigrants and can that be used as an indicator of immigrant integration? I noticed that you neatly avoided this question, even though I posed it several times already. I am betting you are afraid to accurately answer because it will force you to change sides. Unless you agree that Canada does a good job at integrating immigrants. Well when I Googled all those troubles, by far the most information was from right-wing bloggers and more blather about Muslims. But when I look at the demographics it appears that the foreigners in Sweden are overwhelmingly European and most f them Finns. So, other that the so-called 'Muslim Problem' are there other problems, especially with the overwhelming number of European immigrants in Sweden. And yet, despite these troubles, the damned Swedes keep their doors open. What the hell is wrong with them, eh?
  2. I see. So in other words, you really don't have any measure to offer for "public mood on the matter" you're just saying. That sounds like derp-for-derp to me. Yes, cut and paste has that faithful effect. I think it is a software problem. There are "troubles" that show immigration policy in Sweden isn't working? Did they recently kick out a pile of Finns and Norwegians or something? I don't blame them, those sardine eating Norwegians refuse to eat meatballs.
  3. That's a fair point. How could it be indicated that immigrants are integrating? Well, how about for starters we ask about the immigrant unemployment rate? Or better yet, their employment rate? Isn't working in a country, gaining citizenship and paying taxes an indication of a measure of integration? So if they weren't integrating then the immigrant unemployment rate must be in the - what? 30%? 40% 51% unemployment?
  4. Take a few minutes from your navel gazing to have a little fun there August. Who gets to decide is Ernst Zundel really was just bullshitting? You? Me? "partisan" committees? But not entirely pathetic to see "Canadian leftists" to rely on an American to support some humour. LOLF! You've outdone yourself again August. Partisan parliamentary committees are in cahoots with the liberally-biased media of course! Conservatives should learn to type maybe? Or actually pay attention perhaps? Let's start a pool on this: please predict the month and year the CRTC will disappear. So you are saying the CRTC somehow holds political sway for what they don't do? Sounds like Bizzarro World to me! I can hear it now, on the street corners of downtown Toronto, "CRTC won't pander to Ernst Zundel like Sun-TV. Sign up for the Conservative Party here!" Yes, I can see how people tuning out would move them to the right. Cluing out has the same effect too.
  5. .Based on what? The opening post "claims" no such thing. That is the Star headline. Based on what? And, by the way, who are the "Migration Policy Group" anyway? They're an advocate group dedicated to encouraging immigration and diversity. So let's not assume that their study doesn't have an agenda attached. Yeah, what could their agenda possibly be? It’s a paradox: high unemployment with serious labour shortages
  6. Where do I "claim: that the reports hows immigrants are integrating well? Well the corollary here is that government programs unfriendly to immigrants would be less effective in integrating immigrants dontchya think? I'll see your Fraser Institute report and raise you one federal government department and some history books. I'll tell you what I'd like to see. I'd like to see crime statistics on immigrants, not just immigrants in their first 3 years, but permanently. I'd like to see statistics on how many immigrants, in particular Muslims, send their children 'home' to find a mate. I'd like to see surveys from second generation immigrants, particularly Muslims, which says they have little interest in the old quarrels of their homeland, don't really speak the language much, and are more interested in Canada - and are becoming more secularized. I'll tell you what I would like to see, is more people become aware of the history of immigration in Canada and see how well it has worked for us all these years despite the Germans, Irish, Japanese, Scots, Ukrainians, Chinese, Americans and all these other angry foreigners coming here with their issues. Especially those Irish Catholics - they shot D'Arcy McGee dammit, the bastards? Or... did they? Hmmmm... Corollary, implication. Etc. Then have at 'er. What is the employment rate for immigrants? If they are not integrating, it should be like what 25% employment rate? 49%?
  7. I saw this linked from the Huffington Post, their eye on Canada guy, right B-C? CRTC ditches bid to allow fake news Fox TV-style news and Ernst Zundel in the same story? Oh my. But the Huffington Post article is even better. Regulators Reject Proposal That Would Bring Fox-Style News to Canada Leave it to a Yank to tell it like it is: LOFL!
  8. In defence of critical thinking can you supply cites to show that immigrants are not integrating here in Canada? Cause it seems to me - other than the odious presentism, which isn't critical thinking at all - we are doing a pretty good job of integrating immigrants and we always have. Hey it might not be up to some people's standards, but the report says we're third after all. Muslim schmuslim. The report is on immigration, not Muslim immigration. And even still, our Muslims are integrating nicely too.
  9. What IS interesting is that we are ranked 3rd in the world and there all kinds of excuses made as to why this doesn't apply, is illegitimate study, can't be true, etc. Where's that good old Canadian self-deprecation? Oh wait, there it is...
  10. yeah but... they excel in football! Which likely compensates for the first four items and accounts for the last two.
  11. All over the news this morning, at least in the GTA. With all the complaints about immigrants not integrating into our society by members here, you'd think we would be way down the list. I guess not. In addition, I guess the Tory immigrant vote isn't as significant as it is made out to be. Canada ranked 3rd in integrating newcomers
  12. Heyyyy... waitaminnit. Libertarians can be queers. And whores and drug addicts. In fact, aren't queers, whores and drug addicts more or less a prime example of free will and liberty of thought and action?
  13. Except when prurience calls right? I mean the Gay Pride Film Expedition and all.
  14. Now you are just back tracking. Proven wrong, you are now hiding behind degrees. Your Aunt Tillie would also experience cultural dissimilarities, including differences in religious practices, with an Orthodox Jew in Canada too. But that doesn't mean that because there is more similarities with an Orthodox Jew in Canada that there are no cultural similarities with Coptic Christian Egyptians outside of their religious practice. That is nonsense. So the fact remains that a crucifix is a cultural symbol for a given group of people and in Quebec, even a signification of a common heritage - tradition. The kirpan and niqab cannot claim such a pedigree in Quebec. No. The context is culture. You have difficulty grasping that for some reason.
  15. Rock and Roll did it. And marijuana...
  16. Perhaps the lack of attacks means you have it exactly boring. I know my kids teachers, good friends with principles and counsellors. Mostly what you say is full of shit - generally. But if you have something specific you want to bring up please do. Otherwise: yawn....
  17. But they could just as easily lose 19 seats. The point being is that they were on track for a majority when the polls came out - two elections in a row - and ended up with a minority. Prime Minister Harper has to win a majority or he is toast. And the way he appears into a micro-managing control freak, well, it should be a fun election!
  18. Quebec has something similar do they not? The Québec Pension Plan
  19. Harper Tories on the brink of majority, poll finds Harper edges closer to majority Tory majority? Why Stephen Harper is riding high in the polls Yeah there is lots of talk of a Tory majority government from the Globe, the Star and even the CBC. Oh, wait. Those stories are from 2008.
  20. Well, they do take on-line polls. Here is one you can take right now. What Do You Think Tea Party Movement Is About? Results so far: Small government and fiscal responsibility 7.31% Exposing Democrats' socialist agenda 0.6% Voicing outrage at out-of-touch politicians 2.74% Fruitless mix of racism, conspiracy theories 88.94% Other (add your comment) 0.41% Total Votes: 439,781 Take your turn and vote today.
  21. Excellent direction myata, but I am having a hard time as seeing the G20 as any more important to human rights than Trudeau calling up the War Measures Act during the October Crisis in 1970. That was significant, the G20 was unfortunate, but currently under investigation. Was the government competent to shut down peaceful democratic dissent when windows were being smashed and cars burned? Was the government authorized to prevent any further occurances of such acts. What concerns me the most - about the smashing windows and burning cars was whether there was some baiting going here to allow for the justification of ramping up the police forcefulness. g_bambino answers this correctly in my mind. We can argue over due dilligence with regard to handling crowds that could potentially turn violent and cause property damage. However, the idea that damage or violence could happen at a G20 conference didn't materialize out of thin air. There was prededence. No, I don't think so. Society is displaying those actions in our media and in government investigations and inquiries. That is the way it should be. Also, we are discussing this on an open forum and I am sure the Toronto G20 is getting lots of play in the public. This is your key point I think and well taken. No, we shouldn't "stay home" or, in the case of hundreds if not thousands of employees and workers, find someplace else to sit and do your job. I agree that the police situation was way over the top, the money spent was way over the top and the actions of a few ought to be brought to justice. However, not ALL of it is worthy of condemnation. The kicker is, from my point of view, that window smashing and car burning should not constitute permission for the denial of protest and should not constitute permission to bring violence against people. But are we in a minority over that? And where does one draw the line from propery damage to violence against persons?
  22. Well for someone who states that there is nothing in common between a Eqyptian Coptic Christian and their Aunt Tillie other that their religious symbols on Sundays, what you considered backward is, more or less, irrelevant. Of course context has no meaning right?
  23. Is Merriam-Webster good enough for you? Culture Nonsense. on ones knees for prayer is an easy example. Seriously, you're kidding right? Your Aunt Tillie shares many cross-cultural things with an Egyptian Coptic Christian besides religion - cultural materials, technologies, likely similar morals and ethics, etc. No doubt leading to self-conflict. And you yourself wrote earlier that "no, Quebec is not tolerant of other cultures." All they are doing is displaying their traditional cultural symbols.
  24. I'm not sure what you mean by "part 2" but in perspective, the G20 controversy appears to be a much smaller issue than the October Crisis and the use of the War Measures Act in 1970. At least there is a measure of transparency for the Canadians to see the problems with the way the G20 was - and is being - handled. I am still not confident that everything that went on with the October Crisis is as out in the open. So if we were "on the way there" then it has been happening for quite some time now...
  25. Well first of all, any religious symbol is a cultural symbol and nothing more. If you have a beef with Christianity that's your problem. You are the one that brought in the idea of the niqab and thus elevated the perception of all this cultural material to an even plane. Thanks for that. Yes. You can have it both ways. Is there some moral or legal code you can cites otherwise? The point I am making is that can we allow this hypocrisy now and hope for the gradual change - through education and common social practice - to allow secularism to take it's inevitable path in the future?
