  1. Excellent sales tax summary. Now to the fun part: what "basic services" would you like?
  2. I am so tired of the Natives Churches getting a free ride on the Canadian taxpayer's money for something we simply did not do to them. 4. The dusty old internet crank strikes back. Like striking back with overcooked spaghetti left in the sauce overnight. If you know what I mean. Yawn.
  5. First of all, I am not claiming land was "stolen," unless you include squatting, cheating, lying and illegal sales tactics as a form of "stealing." Besides, "much of the land" comes under the jurisdiction of treaties. They do live by the "same rules" it's called the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. I Two Spoons Treaty between the Iroquois and Ojibway. Now what this means is that the government can come in and expropriate your property probably at a "fair price" with current values. So you only "live" in Halton. Nothing stolen. Sounds like they are doing pretty good. Why change a good thing? So they are doing pretty good, they have no problems making partnerships or taking money from you personally through their on-line gambling and supporting themselves AND they are taking billions for the reserve system. Man o' man Mr. Canada, your train has gone off the rails if you think those are signs of being "victims." Sounds like they have achieved a level of success that has surpassed the white man. That is likely what all the whining is about right? And, as I said, why change a good thing?
  6. Could you restate and clarify your comments please? You seem to be making a juxtaposition that is heading towards apples and oranges. I get a sense of your point, but it is somewhat unclear.
  7. Interesting when you change just two words... I agree - give them their land back and let them get their revenue from property taxes, oil and mineral rights, etc. Let them administer the treaties for once and form new partnerships with people whom are friendly to their interests. BTW Mr. Canada, is your passport up-to-date?
  8. You got a sense of me being a socialist/progressive from me writing "examples please" to Michael's assertion of the viability of close economic systems? Wow. I am truly impressed with your depth. By that I mean the depth of the rabbit hole you must have fallen into. But still tis depth nonetheless Alice.
  9. Here is a great example of the point you are making: The Equity in Athletics Data Analysis Cutting Tool - US Dept of Education. In a word: WOW! You have access to the raw data on-line or to download to do with what you need. Since college athletic recruiting in the US is big business (or, rather, big enough business) a recruiting firm can download the data, add value and analysis and there can be a fee-for-access applied. This is specialty processing which costs will be downloaded to the client. That's fair. They process the data, they own the processed form. But we can still download the raw data. I am not sure if there is a disclosure agreement between the government and third party like there is for some Canadian data like EMR or Weather Office data. A disclosure agreement basically tells the client where the data comes from and that they can access it for free if they want. When it comes to Gov 2.0, the US Dept of Edu is definately on that track. BTW - the impact on Canada in this case is that a significant amount of Canadians are interested in athletic scholarships, aid and education in US colleges.
  10. Blaming immigrants isn't any type of approach at all. If it is, we might as well have thrown the Slavs and Irish some cabbages and potatoes because, you know, they will never amount to much. Oh wait, we already did that - now look what we've got. Let's not forget that widespread famine is also a form of Big Global Economic Force and it worked out for us by being generous. Funny how we are so willing to attract the billions in Hong Kong investments, but gawd, don't you dare let any of their employees speak Cantonese to one another.
  11. Ottawa caps number of skilled immigrants - No more than 20,000 applications to reduce backlog So being fluent in Mandarin is not the issue. .So MD is off the hook (sort of) since IT has been taken off the table. Although health professionals are on the list: Now, let's suppose that we have, I dunno, say 100 Chinese IT guys come over here to work in the private sector. They have passed their English literacy test, but lack the entire range of easy conversational English that most of us grew up with. So now, who do we send them to for competent psychological examination? Would Dr. Smith be a better choice than say, Dr. Chu? And if Dr. Chu is seen as the better fit, do we ask Dr. Chu and his patient to converse in a constrained English, or do we allow Dr. Chu to speak Mandarin to better understand his patient? If I owned a mental health clinic at Dundas and Spadina in Toronto, I think I would advertise for an employee who was also fluent in Mandarin. I don't necessarily care if the guy has ancestry from China, England, India or Arizona, just that he be fluent in Mandarin.
  12. Examples please.
  13. Nope, my original thought was correct in assessing your previous opinion as a pile of crap. If you don't see reports of cops being charged because of 'abuse of power' then you don't read much. Does the world disappear when you close your eyes too?
  14. Another ineffectual response from the resident boor which furthers removes doubt.
  15. No, no, no, no. What would you do to to run policing in general for all of Canada?
  16. Another limp response from the resident pussy. Keep it coming Leafless, the doubt removing effect is still very much active.
  17. Maybe it wasn't so much a decision as a plan.
  18. Well, my first response is that this is a big pile of crap. But my second thought is to ask you: how would you like the cops to be and how would you run things? And no, changing Child Protection laws is not an answer.
  19. Ah, so you would be the type of general who would lead his troops into battle by being first out in front? Many generals died that way. The Army has since learned. Hey I am not condoning the behaviour, especially if you are forcing someone to publicly express an opinion they do not share. That is indeed scuzzy. But power has its privledges regardless of ideological stripe or university affiliation and, well, what would you expect? Many an underling have willingly thrown themselves upon the explosive memos of their bosses. But I am sure Houle will expect a little something extra at Christmastime though.
  20. Another little message from dusty old internet crank Leafless. Unoriginal and completely wit free Tsk, tsk, tsk Leafless, I was expecting more. But then again, you are likely the biggest pussy in your neighbourhood, so you ain't got much anyways. Oh well, I should have guessed that, my apologies.
  21. This has become quite a popular topic in local news, especially in Toronto. The Star. Sun, City - are full of stories about the abuses, the conflicts, the boxing-ins, the rumours, etc., etc. In fact, so much news has been generated, I am betting there will be enough for quite sometime. As the major producer of news, the "government" has done quite a job here. And dragging Dziekanski into it - nice touch because, you know, these are signs of an impending totalitarian regime. If you want to demonstrate human rights and freedom, I challenge anyone on this forum to bust into the any ruling political leaders office during business hours and protest. You have freedom of association and the freedom to protest right? Gather in the PM's office and stage a peaceful protest. The sit-ins of yore. Be sure to wear flowers in your hair to look nice on TV as the police drag you out whether you like it or not. Oh, they will ask you to leave first of course. They always do. Fact of the matter is, there have been hundreds, if not thousands of peaceful, organized and topical protests all over Canada these past few decades without much ado. Where was the police brutality when the Tamil protesters were closing down city streets in Toronto last year? What about all the mayhem when the so-called First Nations marched on Friday? What about all the other protests, shout outs, demonstrations and CAW picnics in the rest of the country. As if... As if what happens in a few blocks of downtown Toronto - the Centre of the Universe we say - defines rights and freedoms in Canada. Much ado about nothing. One thing is clear - if you were looking for trouble on Saturday or Sunday, you have the right to look for it and the freedom to be a willing participant in what the police response was more or less clearly made out to be. Most got what they wished for. Did anyone really think that it would be all peace and cinnamon, incense and butterflys? Did anyone take notice of that fence? They could have gathered in Missy or Markham or taken to the streets in Ajax. But that wouldn't be good news would it? CityTV would have wanted them to have a violent demonstration at Younge & Dundas Square. Imagine the ratings! For all the money they generated - the billion dollar security stimulus, the insurance laundering, the advertising, the sensationalism - all that news - the so-called Black Bloc should have been on the payroll. And I am not convinced they weren't.
  22. Ah the remove-all-doubt principle in action. Or is it Tourette's? Likely a little from column A and a little from column B. And convenient memory loss...
  23. Well since you have well established that your thinking is severely flawed and that you likely suffer from a mild form of aphasia, I can live with that.
  24. How about Antartica then? They could build this giant ice palace - a Fortress of Solitude if you will - and then call it the "Super" G20 Summit. Heck, they could even build it on a summit of one of those Antarctic moutains! You could probably build the whole thing for less than a billion and imagine all the economic benefits for Antarctica. I hear that is one continent that could use the stimulus. Just not the global warming kind.
  25. Back in my day sonny, espousing an opinion like this would get you tagged as a spazz. Not on account for your pure jerkiness, but for the logic. It would seem that you advocated arresting and trying people for treason for something that goes completely against those very things that 'make Canada better' including social programs, tolerance of others, tolerance of differences, freedom of association, etc. By advocating in this manner you are inciting people to go against the very foundations of Canada and thus appear to be advocating for the overthrow of the Canadian government, which was built upon this foundation. Therefore it is you that ought to be arrested and tried for treason. Or at least charged with extreme douche-baggery. Either will do.
