  1. Michael Hardner: followed by August1991: I agree with both of you. As for myself, I would be okay with using my first name but, for obvious reasons, not my surname.
  2. That is true but the US sold them that gas. **edit** Trying to cover it up too. links to a pdf The US sold them that gas? What the hell? Did you even read your link? Trying to cover it? Again, did you even read your link? Your source vindicates the Reagan administration.
  3. Actually, by most estimates Saddam and the USA are responsible for about the same number of civilian deaths. Of course Saddam took about 5 times longer to accomplish that. What a load of crap. Yet you have the nerve to call me a lying rightwinger in another thread. You're getting more over-the-top every day.
  4. I don't mind security cameras in some places, but London was spooky. There were govt security cameras everywhere. I hope Canada never gets like that.
  5. "...a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act does not override the president's constitutional authority to spy on suspected international agents under executive order." "I think that the president would be remiss exercising his constitutional authority by giving all of that power over to a statute." -- Judge Allan Kornblum, an author of the 1978 FISA Act "...ultimately he will have to answer to Congress and the Supreme Court if the surveillance was found not to be in the best interests of national security." Seems fair to me. When will the Democrats call for another Commission and Hearings? All in the interests of national security and making sure those terrorists don't learn of our surveillance, of course. Sounds like another winner for the Democrats.
  6. Yes she did. What's your point? I suspect I know what it is but I'd like you to explain it to the forum. I did already when she asked the same question. Read the thread. Ah yes. Betsy doesn't know her true place; just like those traiterous black Republicans?
  7. Black Dog: You're joking, right? Why should the "cowardly" Ezra Levant publish fake cartoons? There is no cartoon of Mohammed having sex with a pig. You're confusing this with the cartoon by the University of Saskatchewan's Sheaf student newspaper, a cartoon of Jesus having sex with a pig; a cartoon that the cartoonist refused to apologize for because it showed the "double standards" of Christians who have this wild crazy zany over-the-top thoroughly undocumented idea that suicide bombers are associated with Islam.
  8. yes. And what about it? It just strikes me as interesting that you take the side of those who don't think you belong here. Wow. Talk about jumping to conclusions. Just like Cynthia McKinney when she got caught assaulting a policeman the other day....it's all racism.
  9. Yes she did. What's your point? I suspect I know what it is but I'd like you to explain it to the forum.
  10. "No you much prefer the mushy-headed idealism of the right, which aspires to build a nation where none has stood before, to bring democracy to a country where people can't even read, to promote western liberal ideals in a country that has rejected every attempt to liberalize and modernize it in the past century and change. But it's not really about that: right wingers are always willing to abandon pragmatism if it serves the greater good, which is basically about the fact that men in tanks killing brown people gives right wingers a collective boner." Just another example of the bigotry of the left. Those Afghanis are just second class brown people. They don't deserve to be free; they are incapable. They deserve nothing better than to live under the boot of the Taliban and Al Qaeda.
  11. The news services are reporting that, after Israel, Canada is the first country to formally cut off funds to the Palestinian Authority: Wow. Canada led the world when it came to taking a moral stance. That ain't liberal! But it makes me proud. Things are looking up for this country already. I was embarrassed when Paul Martin repeatedly said that Canada was friends with the PA.
  12. So much for the "illegal" wiretaps: Yet another Democrat mantra gets flushed down the toilet. Too bad. I was getting a kick out of their recent campaign slogan: Bush is spying on terrorists. We won't. Vote Democrat! How can these people be so out of touch with the general public? No matter how much the Republicans stumble, no matter how hostile the MSM media is to the Bush administration, the Democrats still can't gain. Although approval is low for the Republicans at this stage, it is even worse for the Democrats. The Democrats in Congress regularly poll at a dismal 25-29% approval rating (lower than Republicans who are usually in the 30s). The MSM ignores that and concentrates on Bush's poll numbers. At Bush's January SOTU address, the Democrats stood up and gave a standing ovation when Bush admitted that his Social Security Reform plan had not taken off well. The Democrats created SS. That's their baby and they are so driven by partisan ideology that they are willing to let it die (no credible person denies that SS is going to die), just to get one up on that evil Bush who had the gall to give the masses the option of investing some of it into other avenues. I thought that that was a defining moment for the Democrat Party. Politics (Bush Hatred) trumps pragmatism. I'm sorry, but the Democrats are idiots. No wonder Ann Coulter relentlessly mocks them.
  13. When they say things like: I took it as Jerry being blunt about life. Is it my fault that the fishermen in NFLD are struggling? No. I want to help them but they have to learn to help theirselves. I donate sporadically to charity but I would donate more if I could keep more of my income. I wouldn't feel forced to give; I would do it on my own accord. It's been proven time and time again that rightwingers out-donate leftwingers. We are a generous lot.
  14. I quoted numbers based on real GDP. You provided numbers which are fudged to account for cost of living. Why won't you give your source?
  15. Newbie: The Earth's temperature has risen slightly because the sun is burning stronger. Check this out from the article: "The scientists also compared data from ice samples collected during an expedition to Greenland in 1991. The most recent samples contained the lowest recorded levels of beryllium 10 for more than 1,000 years. Beryllium 10 is a particle created by cosmic rays that decreases in the Earth's atmosphere as the magnetic energy from the Sun increases. Scientists can currently trace beryllium 10 levels back 1,150 years." Why didn't you post the previous paragraph before your above quote? "Dr David Viner, the senior research scientist at the University of East Anglia's climatic research unit, said the research showed that the sun did have an effect on global warming." Pretty lame, Newbie. Especially when you have accused me in the past of being deceptive. Did you really think that I would start a thread using an article that I didn't read? Sure, there will continue to be scientists who insist on clinging to the West's Suicide Pact™ (aka the Kyoto Protocols), but even Dr. Jones is hedging his bet by including multiple causes in his repertoire.
  16. And if Righties ran the world Islam, homosexuality and abortion would all be banned and women would be back to being beaten, barefoot and pregnant. You're not being fair. The Right doesn't want Islam banned, but most would like radical Islam banned--which has far bigger numbers than some lone far-right whacko out to kill an abortion doctor. Homosexuality would be banned by the Right? Besides their stubborn traditional marriage demands (unions is not good acceptable) what rights do gay people really lack? I agree that some are uncomfortable around homosexuals, but if the person is talented, and discreet, a smart business-person <---(being PC ) will hire him/her. There is a large number of gays making $100,000+/yr. The Right would ban abortion? Not total abortion. It's just that the Right generally does not believe in abortion at any time and for any flimsy reason. Most believe that abortions should only happen if the mother's life or health is in danger, incest, and rape. Some on the Right think that aborting a child in the 1st trimester is acceptable. Few on the Right believe in late-term abortions. I've seen pics of late-term abortions; it's heartwrenching. The Right would be back to beating women and keeping them barefoot and pregnant? This last one must be a joke.
  17. Ezra Levant, publisher of the Western Standard. speaks out. I think you will find his response interesting. Syed Soharwardy, the Calgary Muslim imam, was turned down flat by the police but the Alberta Human Rights Commission accepted his complaint. Alberta tax dollars will pay for the prosecution of his complaint, while the Western Standard will get stuck with a $75,000 legal bill. That's grossly unfair.
  18. UK's Telegraph:: Whaaaa? Does that mean there has been long periods of hotter/colder temperatures in past history? The Mother Gaia people never mention that. Conservationist David Bellamy steps up to home plate: Bellamy swings. *Crack* And it's a home run.
  19. What country is that? Your example is grossly unfair. What if I was the handsomest man in the world? What if I owned a Turbo Porsche? What if my condo was worth $1 million? What if I won $10 million in the lottery tomorrow? What if my birth certificate said that I was 21 yrs old? Per capita GDP is the best (it's not perfect) indicator of a country's wealth/standard of living. All reputable economists use per capita GDP first. Probably not this one. It would be economically and technologically stagnant. There is no incentive to get work hard and get ahead. Everyone makes the same. Drop out of school in Grade 9, become a janitor, and laugh at the sucker who went to medical school for 7 years--you're doing just as well as him.
  20. Riverwind: Why is their property worthless? How many ppl in their 50s have no savings? Whose responsibility is it if you are in your 50s and have no savings? Is it responsible to throw up your hands and say "the hell with it"? Don't bother retraining (if necessary), don't bother moving to a province that is starved for workers. Just sit on EI and when that runs out, go on welfare until you're 65. Now that's personal reponsibility!
  21. If that is your criteria then consider the list of GDP per capita for western nations:1 Luxembourg 69,737 2 Norway 54,600 3 Switzerland 49,300 4 Ireland 45,675 5 Denmark 44,808 6 Iceland 41,804 7 United States 39,935 Guess that means the US is the 7th best capitalist country in the western world Your numbers are way off. Per capita GDPs from the World FactBook: Luxembourg (a tiny mostly banking country that's population is half the size of Calgary): 62,700 Norway: 42,400 USA: 41,800 Switzerland: 35,000 Iceland: 34,600 Ireland: 34,100 Denmark: 33,500 Canada: 32,800 Even after ignoring Luxembourg, which is an abnormal representative (even Norway has 4.6 million ppl), there are still 5 European countries that have higher per capita GDPs than Canada.
  22. Nocrap: So if he won the leadership and then somehow beat Harper, Brison's husband (wife?) would be Canada's First Gentlemen? Only progressive liberals in "the reality-based community" believe Canadians would ever vote in that result.
  23. Jerry Seinfeld: Yes, but private healthcare is officially illegal in Canada--just like in Cuba and North Korea.
  24. Idealist to the end, indeed. Hamas is a terrorist organization. Their stated goal is to drive the democratic Israelis into the sea. The IRA never came close to the terror that the displaced Arabs cause. This death cult voted a terrorist organization into power. It is absolutely disgusting the way the left sucks up to these terrorists.
  25. Nocrap, Harper will whip Mr Fancy Pants Brison. I'd bet the mortgage on it. As for your healthcare lament, Stephen Harper has said that he wants people to have access to additional (private) healthcare services. He said that public funds will pay for private medical treatment. This will reduce waiting lists. You can't possibly be against this. Canada's healthcare system is a mess. It's interesting that these days people/other countries look at Canada's healthcare system as something not to be emulated. Even Europe allows the option of private healthcare. BC's Liberal Party recently went over to Europe to check out their public/private healthcare system. Why spend Canadian money going to the US for healthcare when this money could stay in Canada?
