Canada Federal Carbon Dioxide CO2 Tax
dre replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You didn't try to understand what I said at all. Carbon taxes themselves obviously will not stop climate change. Only new technology will. What carbon taxes CAN do is create an incentive in the market place to invest in those technologies. And yes... The break-throughs required to enter the next energy age COULD come from little old Canada. Again, you don't seem to understand the point of the taxes or what they are meant to do. They aren't MEANT to directly reduce our emissions. They are meant to encourage investment in technology. -
Trump's so called "revised ban" revisited
dre replied to kactus's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The ban isn't about safety. Its about Trump hamming it up for the retards who he wants support from. Tapping into anti-immigrant sentiment is just smart politics right now, and its worked very well for him. He probably wouldnt have won the election with the bigot vote. -
Canada Federal Carbon Dioxide CO2 Tax
dre replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The purpose of Carbon taxation is to create a market incentive by making companies internalize the costs of pollution. The hope is that creating an incentive for technologies that release no CO2, or less CO2 will increase investment in cleaner technologies and we are already seeing that. IF (and I realize its an if) a major breakthrough is made, then we could get off fossil fuels without much pain at all. Carbon taxes could make the difference between entering the next "energy age" 50 years from now instead of 200. If you think that the problem can NEVER be solved by technology then its understandable why you would be against incentives designed to increase R&D. I however firmly believe that technology will, so I support modest attempts to speed that up, which is what we are seeing. And CO2 is only one reason to get off fossil fuels. Energy costs have been rising and they are already an impediment to global economic growth. They are also very volatile because they are based too much on the price and availability of commodities instead of technology. I believe that at some point in the future energy will be virtual free... and I figure, the sooner the better. Plus... I didn't even notice when carbon taxes were implemented in BC. I don't feel like I'm suffering. -

Sweden says cold war is back, starts conscription
dre replied to Argus's topic in The Rest of the World
I don't find your fear mongering compelling. I would rather consider the opinions of Israels own intelligence and military, than those of belligerent chicken hawk politicians and their hapless, witless cheering sections. Same goes for the Nuclear deal reached with Iran a while back. Firebrand war-mongering civilian leaders like Netanyahu instantly cry "this will mean the end of Israel", and forum dwelling internet chicken-hawks were ever so happy to join the chorus. But lets look at what people that really KNOW stuff had to say... Amos Yadlin, head of Israeli Military Intelligence: Israeli Chief of the General Staff Lieutenant General Gadi Eizenkot: So who should I listen to? Israels own top intelligence officials? Or message board chicken hawks that want diplomacy to fail so they can watch a war on TV from the safety of their couch in moms basement? Gosh... I wonder -
Residential Schools........ and fake info!
dre replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
No I don't think that either. What I DO think is that residential schools were part of a plan to eradicate native culture, and get rid of treaty obligations. But I don't think that all the raping and killing was part of that plan. I think that happened simply because, even as evidenced in recent history, Catholic authority figures like to rape and mistreat little kids. They are still doing it today by the thousands, and the church has been caught covering it up by whisking pedophiles away to different jurisdictions by sweeping it under the rug. I think most catholics are great people, but I consider that organization and the people in charge of it to be pretty much nasty and evil. -

Again belligerent policy on our side is making that worse. George Bush named Iraq, Iran, and North Korea as an "Axis of Evil", and then invaded Iraq resulting in the deaths of somewhere around 1/2 a million people. Now if you were in charge of Iran or NK, and you saw that, wouldn't YOU be scrambling to come up with some kind of deterrent to western aggression? That's all just based on bluster for chicken hawk politicians, and you lap it up like puppy chow. Israels military and intelligence communities don't view Iran as much of a threat at all. You watch too many movies. Even if Iran DOES get nuclear weapons the chances of them launching an unprovoked attack against Israel are virtually zero. They know that it would bring about the end of the entire Persian race. They have zero record of doing anything remotely like that, and their theocratic leader has been relatively predictable. There's no great chance of that, then there is of Pakistan launching a nuclear attack on India. MAD doctrine works. At the end of the day leaders in all these countries have cushy lavish lives, and they aren't chomping at the bit to die. They are primarily concerned with their own well being, and holding onto power. -

It WAS what they wanted to do. I posted a quote from the minister of Indian affairs at the time saying exactly that. -
Why is Islam (Muslim) a Religion and Political System?
dre replied to seraphim's topic in Religion & Politics
I never denied that, Captain Reading Comprehension. There's all kinds of people preaching hate in Canada, you being one of them, right here in this thread. Like I said though... If these people are so hell bent on genocide, why aren't our million+ muslim's killing at LEAST a few hundred unbelievers a week? Could it be... that your'e full of crap? -

Walmart Greeter Argus, as usual with a stunning argument and convincing argument for you as you walk from the entrance towards the grocery aisle. Yup! And didn't intelligence agencies warn them for decades that was coming, as a result of exactly the same violent interventionalist policies I was just comdemning? Oh... And didnt further violent intervention AFTER that result in a dramatic increase in terrorism world wide? OOPS! Fact is, your brilliant ideas consistently achieve the opposite of what you hope they will, and they actually make it MORE likely that one of our cities will get bombed. -
Except for the example I gave you and the rest of the examples on the Wiki leaks China site. Or the numerous publications condemning chinese censorship, or the 35 videos they releasing showing the Chinese crackdown on Tibetans, or the "Great Firewall of China" detailing the depth of Chinese censorship.

Why is Islam (Muslim) a Religion and Political System?
dre replied to seraphim's topic in Religion & Politics
I guess victory must mean back-pedaling your bright orange tricycle off a cliff, with your big floppy shoes and colorful clown pants? You know how you spot the loser of an argument on the internet? He jumps up and down declaring victory. One has to wonder... If Islam is such a power force in convincing its followers to commit genocide, why are almost none of them are doing it? I mean there's over a million muslims in Canada... clearly they must have killed at least a few hundred non-believers today right? Probably about 1000 this week if they are making even the most casual effort? And I have absolutely no doubt, that the statistics will reflect this and prove your point about these blood thirsty genocidal muslims and their killing spree in the name of Allah! Lemme see what I can dig up to reinforce your most wise and prescient view on this... Oh oh... Not going well so far. https://sites.duke.edu/tcths/files/2017/01/Kurzman_Muslim-American_Involvement_in_Violent_Extremism_2016.pdf Turns out that only 40 of Americas 3.3 Million muslims were linked to violent extremist activity in 2016 This cant be right. And only 24 of them were linked with actual violent attacks. I mean if Islam is such a successful promoter of genocide (and believe you, it is!) then what the hell is the problem with these 3.3 million muslims? When does the jihad start? Lazy useless bums. To be honest I think the study is lying. Probably part of some sort of left wing conspiracy right? And then theres this other guy... From something called the Triangle Center on Terrorism and Homeland Security... Hes a liar too... Thats just madness.... Cant be right! I mean even if Muslims were NOT blood thirsty homocidal maniacs hell bent on killing for Allah (and as you have already brilliantly demonstrated, they are!) 1/3rd of one percent... According to that (liberal lies, I know)... Muslims kill at a lower rate than everyone else! Impossible! There was something about 10 thousand gun nuts killing American folks in 2016 as well. That's obviously just liberal SJW's making up fake data to blame the nations high murder rates on decent, christian, old stock Americans! Frustrating! Seeing that all the data and statistics supporting your position have clearly been buried by a vast liberal conspiracy, we are going to need a different approach! We are going to need bigots to troll message boards, make bogus claims. If possible someone stupid enough to post passages from a book written thousands of years ago, and attribute those words to people alive today. Any idea where we could find someone like that DOP? -
Go to wikileaks China site and read some of the documents. The recent leak of state department cables comes to mind... It risks jeopardizing the relationship between China and its largest trading partner.
-
Just a bunch of BS assumptions and made up facts. Leak media is best thing thats happened for both easterners and westerners in a very long time.
-
Well Assange has released a lot of stuff that has caused problems for China. He has also described them as Wikileaks "main technological enemy", and wrote a number of essays on how to make things hard for authority regimes, that were focused on China.

Why is Islam (Muslim) a Religion and Political System?
dre replied to seraphim's topic in Religion & Politics
Bingo. These various holy books are a reflection of the times in which people wrote them (I say people because of course the gods they are written around don't exist). To cherry pick parts of them and attribute them to muslims or christians, or jews TODAY is quite frankly retarded. Something an idiot would do. -
Not very likely.

If you have a chronic or acute medical condition or an injury that causes a lot of pain, you cant "adapt" to fix it. You can either suffer (sometimes quite severely) or take something. That said... I think Doctors DO over prescribe, mainly because pharmy companies pay them to.

More like "They thought it would be convenient for themselves if native culture was iradicated and they no longer had to honor the treaties that had been signed" -
Residential Schools........ and fake info!
dre replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They thought they were doing the right thing for themselves. Not for natives. They wanted to absolve themselves of treaty obligations, and get rid of the "indian problem". Duncan Campbell Scott, minister of Indian Affairs at the time said... They knew what they were doing was wrong. -

Its not always effective to that end, but its still the only thing preventing revolution. Like I said... you can either have a democracy or a police state. -

I'm not necessarly against the idea of some sort of minimum income. I was referring to the part about ending suffrage (taking away peoples right to participate in politics. -

Voting means the illusion of self determination and provides a means for the peaceful exchange of power. Like I said... you have two choices. Democracy or police state.
