What the hell does it matter how many people who are non-white have been flag bearers over the years? There weren't non-white flag bearers because up until the last 50 years Canada was about 98% white other than the reserves, and people on the reserves were rarely involved in major level athletics.

Without faith or nation, there is no greater whole beyond the individual. We need narratives and structures that bind us together, and give us something to strive for. There has to be something more than everyday life to which people feel they are contributing. Something to daydream about, even if we don’t directly participate. Something that makes us feel like we’re playing our part in a civilisation that is going somewhere, without falling back on the old test of strength against strength, or clashing ideologies.

The internet has contributed to that more than the pandemic. People find like-minded people online to justify their crazy ideas and theories.
I like to seek out people with different views to keep my debate skills up.

This is no doubt a hate-motivated crime. But to say that it's only happening to Muslms - by the way all these endless interviews and political posturing goes - is what to me, is a bigger problem here, too.
Like showing that black guy who singled out WHITE supremacy, in that statement he made on tv. The guy who did the killing, isn't known to be in any groups. We don't know why he hates Muslims. It doesn't automatically mean a white person is a white supremacists when he goes killing visible minorities.
Racism, is a fact of life.
Racist-motivated crimes (directed to all - and that includes white people) must be addressed.
If we want Canada to become a real non-racist nation, then don't go marginalizing and singling out any particular racial groups - and that includes WHITE people!
Otherwise, this is all just lip service. We're just another Hutus vs Tutsis - payback is always a btich.
