  1. If the plants are in the ground it is cultivation, and the weight is irrelevant, and they go by the number of plants. Any lawyer would destroy any prosecutor that tried to estimate finished weight to be used in the charges. There has to be dried product for the weight to matter. The article you posted just stated the estimate of the cop,(outrageously as mentioned) nothing about charges relating to that weight.
  2. and lots of 'em!
  3. "non-partisan candidates", sadly that's pretty much an oxymoron in todays politics.
  4. Thanks for the link, that is brutal. A great example of the dishonesty I referred to earlier that exists on all sides of the great pot debate. They don't realize that telling kids stuff like that is one of the reasons there is less and less respect for the Police everyday. Once the kids are old enough to know better they view them as liars, and don't trust them. There is enough REAL threats to kids out there that they should be scared of for the Police to concentrate on educating them about.
  5. I too would like to see some independent supporting evidence to support that claim. If true that it reduces the recidivism by the 83% claimed, then I agree that not supporting them is shameful, provided they have the structure in place to effectively use the public funds.
  6. As much as I hate to see another wasteful election, I do think one right now could be good for the country, in the long run. Not because I'm real fond of Harper or the CPC, but I believe the CPC would get a majority, if we voted anytime soon, for no other reason than we're sick of this minority BS because the current lot are acting like selfish children. This would force the LPC to clean house and get some new blood that can, hopefully, inspire people. Even without a majority, the LPC would lose some ground, and hopefully send the message that Ignatieff isn't the type of leader we want. JMO of course. For the record I voted Liberal in every election I voted in, until 2006, when most of us that are for the most part "center" had had enough of the LPC. They haven't yet done anything to win us back, and if anything, are more out of touch with us now, if that's possible.
  7. I read it(from reading the bill summary linked) that one deals with possession(dried ready to smoke), while the other deals with production(plant in the ground). Do you have a link where they are claiming they "..yielded 1 kg of finished product"? I could see them saying the whole plant weighed that much, but claiming finished product averaging that much is just outrageous and they need to be called out for that.
  8. Excellent post Riverwind
  9. You don't need to convince me, legalize, tax, and control it. Combine that with taking it out of the true criminals hands,(big commercial growers), and it's a no brainer, imo.
  10. If we don't strive for honest debate we'll never have it. There's lots of dishonesty in the MJ debate, on both sides. That's what frustrates me, and I'll call out those on both sides when they sling BS. The police have been busy around here as well. Most of the busts I've been hearing on the radio have been in the few hundred plants range. Although I know of a few very small personal grows getting found as well, which I agree is a complete waste of resources. Plants averaging a Kilo is impressive! I call BS on that claim, like I do for many the police make regarding busts. They always claim waaaaaaay more value than it really is. This deserves a thread of it's own, and I apologize for getting into this and derailing this one.
  11. I was asking for evidence to support anyone incarcerated for even a few plants, or the '1' you claimed had people locked up. Marc Emery isn't your average individual and has a lengthy arrest record. He rubs his agenda in the faces of police and politicians and doesn't expect trouble when he does something that IS illegal. Whether you agree with it's legality or not, they were waiting for him to screw up, and acted when he did. I didn't agree with his arrest, and incarceration for this incident, but it is not the norm, far from it. I doubt there has been anyone else incarcerated for the same. This was a witch hunt, nothing more. I'll never understand why he plead guilty to it, but that's another debate. For the record, I wholeheartedly support legalization, or at the very least de-criminalization, and I'm publicly involved and supportive of the effort to get the legislation passed/changed. Using outlandish claims that people are being jailed for a single joint, or plant, is dishonest and does nothing to further the honest debate on the subject.
  12. Indeed, I'd also like to see evidence of people being locked up for a single pot plant as well, let alone locked up in a federal pen.
  13. My favorite from Thatcher: "The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money [to spend]."
  14. Ya, you need to completely ignore, and avoid people like that, it's a useless exercise in futility. These people who are in the tank, for any party, won't look at anything objectively. You will have a much more constructive discussion with people who are actually concerned with the issues, and not simply deflecting, and/or propping "their party" up. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find these discussions online because the partisan hacks come out of the woodwork and destroy any meaningful debate with their idiocy.
  15. I would love to see it, but unfortunately he'll be protected and locked away from gen pop.
  16. I guess it's safe to say he won't be getting your vote eh?
  17. Good lord no!! I remember the NDP and now Liberal Bob Rae singlehandedly destroying Ontarios economy. I shudder to think of either one of them anywhere near federal office!!
  18. Liberals, corruption? really? Surely you jest?
  19. Me too, and the more that comes out, and the more I learn, the more I feel Bryant likely did exactly what many would do if with their wife and confronted by someone that angry. There's so many freaks out there now you don't know who's going to pull a gun or knife on you over something like this. There might be more to come from this too. Apparently he had been drinking and was in an altercation with his ex-girlfriend where police intervention was required. The police could be in some trouble if it turns out he was drunk and they sent him on his way on his bike. EDIT: Just seen on tv that Shepards friends are saying he was too drunk to get on the bike and ride. They are in fact questioning why police let him ride away. This is gonna get messy.
  20. Interesting, only the truly desperate would try to justify spending 300million on an election saying it stimulates the economy because it created a few very temporary(2 months) jobs. Creating a few jobs that last a couple months does not stimulate the economy in any measurable amount. There isn't a reputable economist anywhere that will support that assertion. Unless of course you know of one you can show us?
  21. Hopefully they're right and it is turning around. Myself I'm skeptical, and will wait for a little bit until we see some real progress before getting to excited.
  22. Now there's an original way to kick off an election bid! EDIT: I think the comments below the posted article pretty much sums up how people I've spoke with feel about this election.
  23. Good post Moxie. Most people I speak with, and I, are frustrated with Harper, but the left doesn't see that. All they acknowledge is anything we might say that is less than flattering to the Liberal party, or Ignatieff personally, and label anyone who doesn't bow down and accept them without question a "right wing nutter". In many cases it doesn't even have to be "less than flattering", simply not agreeing with them gets them worked up and hurling insults. Don't get me wrong, the CPC has their share of Kool-Aid drinkers too, and aren't much better in respect to the political games they play. Therein lies the problem, there just isn't any difference between them, unfortunately. I, and it seems most of Canada, are ready for change, but there just aren't many alternatives, and from what I have seen, Ignatieff sure isn't a viable option for that change we so desperately want/need. For the record, I voted for, and supported the Liberals all my life, until the betrayal of the Chretien admin. They lost their identity, and a lot of us supporters, and haven't done much to right the ship since then.
