  1. As I understand it, this isn't government money, it's private money from the Olympic Foundation?
  2. If that's true then it means that this issue has been discussed and Steve may have misled the HoC when he said he hasn't had involvement or knowledge.
  3. There is reason for concern. The NDP may have it right.
  4. The Con supporters make it an issue so they can blame the lack of permanent rise in the polls (and in people's support) on something other than Steve himself.
  5. I don't care about other countries. I care about this one. This is an embarrassment to this country, within this country. Again.
  6. I agree with that too. I'm no stranger to that area. It should be done in a lot of places. It costs to build highways, widen them, maintain them. We either spend with vision now or later when it may be harder to come by.
  7. Schreiber says he won't testify if he is sent to Germany. Maybe after he gets out of jail there he might release pertinent info and then .... here we go again. Irwin (?) Cotler said he did order him extradited when he was in office, but then Schreiber appealed. So for 8 years he has been here while going through the process, and when the possibility of his dealings with Mulroney (and who knows what other politician) is about to be made public, some want to rush him off to prevent that. After 8 years, surely 6 more months is not a long time. I don't "obviously" want anyone hung out to dry over this. I answered a question about what Mulroney could do ... and he can do a lot if he feels he needs to to preserve his "legacy" that he seems to think the country is not appreciative enough of. Basically it comes down to this whole thing is an embarrassment to this country ... yet more political scandals. What I want is to get it over with so we never have revisit this issue again. And, hopefully, this will be the last time a government of ours is called on corruption.
  8. Of course he wants to stay here. But that does not negate the fact that he may have things to say that will be pertinent to the inquiry that will not come out if he is extradited. I'm not sure what the people that want him sent off immediately are scared of if he is allowed to stay for the duration of the inquiry. What needs to be is that everything surrounding this comes out now so we don't have to try to figure this all out again in 10 years. Let's get it over with. In response to the thread's title: Yes, Brian Mulroney is vindictive. If there were conversations with anyone in this government, especially the PM, about Schreiber, he may bring it out if he feels too unjustly sidelined.
  9. I'm willing to wait and see what comes out of this as long as it is not just cops investigating cops. I don't trust them to tell the truth when they can get away with covering their behinds and no one will be the wiser. Their initial story was the beginning of a cover up and if it weren't for the video we would have bought it all. I do think though that our police are too quick to use force instead of trying to calm a situation down, negotiate - even listen. I don't think this was always the way.
  10. The only problem with this is, build the train and there may then be many because of it. We always do things and build things for the status quo instead of looking ahead to see what is projected for the future, with or without the proposed whatever it may be.
  11. It makes one wonder why Sharia law was even given any kind of consideration when it was proposed in Ontario. I know it was ultimately rejected but should have been rejected immediately and forcefully. Our government spoke up to China (for the domestic audience of course, Steve has to be tough on China's lack of human rights) yet say nary a word to those countries whose laws include stoning women, burning them or lashing and jailing them for being attacked. What a world we live in.
  12. That's just so wrong. It wouldn't have mattered if god himself was leader of the Tory's after Mulroney resigned - they would have gotten trounced just the same. People were so fed up with Mulroney and his corrupt government that no one in that government was safe, even if the constituents liked their individual representative. The result? Liberals who thought they could do anything any time because of lack of effective opposition. Hopefully we won't repeat that experiment again ............. no matter how bad Harper gets.
  13. On Canada AM this morning Lisa Laflamme was explaining the argument regarding Shreiber's deportation. She said it was very complex and she did her best to dumb it down for the audience. In a nutshell, apparently Switzerland accuses Germany of gathering evidence that under international rules would not be admissible in a court of law. Other international agencies agree with Switzerland and say that Canada's international reputation and relations could be harmed by allowing this deportation.
  14. Maybe they could put all that money into a propaganda program convincing Canadians they really do want capital punishment so they push to have the issue re-opened. I mean, if the people want it .. what's Steve to do???
  15. I think a lot of people that believe in capital punishment wouldn't lose too much sleep over it because they would be able to point out to the "righteous" executions; in other words, the system works .... in most cases. Take the Truscott case. The Harpers felt as though justice had been undone when Truscott's conviction was overturned. For far too many, accused means guilt, no matter the evidence to the contrary.
  16. You're the only one that is allowed to bring up others' hypocrisies, is that right?
  17. This is really sad. The USA government declared a war on terrorism but, in reality, it has created a war on ordinary everyday individuals that have nothing in mind other than going to work to support their families, supporting their communities and taking their kids to minor hockey, soccer and softball. As far as passports are concerned, it is surprising, being a border guard and all, that they didn't realize travelers by road won't need passports until 2008(?) and maybe not even then according to news reports today.
  18. You're accusing others of pathetic partisan posturing? Wow!
  19. IMO this inquiry would not be happening if Harper himself wasn't named in the affidavit and if Mulroney hadn't asked for it. When the Libs said they wanted an inquiry Steve said no, and if he was pressured by the opposition for one he would open up inquiries on Chretien and Martin as revenge. This has nothing to do with the Libs as much as Dion would like to claim credit for it.
  20. CBC reported it. I think Mulroney would make an excellent poker player. Or maybe not. The stronger he postures the less he holds in his hand? He did bluff his way through last time but I'm not sure that's going to work second time around.
  21. Nothing like the drive-by smearing that the Cons did to ALL Libs when adscam broke. How soon people forget.
  22. Schreiber is in jail now; I don't imagine that will change even if his deportation is postponed so he can be here for the inquiry. And I do think it will be taken as a cover up by the government if he is deported before he can testify. After all, it is his coming out that has sparked this whole thing. That's the Tory branch. Reformers will want him here.
  23. The events back when money exchanged hands is unrelated to this government. What is related though, is that Mulroney is (was) an adviser and, the question of when and what this gov't knew and did Mulroney and Steve discuss any part of this?
  24. A lie. Another lie, is this compulsive or you do it on purpose? IT? What a man. 'Course it's easy on the end of a keyboard, or telephone even calling hospital rooms and children's lines right jbg?
