  1. Religion, not science, is the only method of discovery that contains a built in self-correction mechanism. A religious person has to obey and therefore can only deals with his self-resistance subjectively. The subjectivity in science is what makes objective progress impossible.
  2. Eating less clarifies the thought process.
  3. Brothers (Semitic people like Jews and Muslims) trying to kill each other will stop when you will be able to imagine a guy like Omar Khadr married to your daughter and being a Canadian diplomat in Israel.
  4. As soon as an army (the US here) takes a prisoner (Omar Khadr here), it should deal with him like if he was no more a dangerous enemy (a Taliban here).
  5. Tell me what you eat, and I shall tell you what you are.
  6. Ignatieff has the noble title of "count".
  7. Mechanism design is a worldwide endeavor.
  8. I think that some of our beliefs can only seem to vanish if we live them through others. For instance, some of men's belief about women (say, being sluts) can only be entertained if they see their own mothers as the opposite.
  9. Enter politics and do better.
  10. Probably because the movie producers assume that a wide public cannot cope with this kind of trauma.
  11. To me Omar Khadr is now more able to put himself in Army Guy's shoes than the converse and, yes, we certainly have to be more lenient with people who are able to put themselves in others' shoes.
  12. With no answers we will be tempted to guess that, for Army Guy, just because there is still active Talibans out there, we have to continue to be quick in punishing scapegoats.
  13. I imagine Army Guy in Afghanistan surviving an IED blow and killing some neighbors and bystanders persuaded that they should have known and done something to prevent this.
  14. Conservatism and obtuse religious faith go together.
  15. You don't get the point like always! Why the screen adaption doesn’t dare to end the story like in the novel Hannibal Lecter?
  16. You've seen nothing yet: "Work is the source of nearly all the misery in the world. Almost any evil you'd care to name comes from working or from living in a world designed for work. In order to stop suffering, we have to stop working." http://www.whywork.org/rethinking/whywork/abolition.html
  17. I think that as soon as adults feel the need to persuade children that Santa Claus exists, they are themselves somehow believing in his existence.
  18. To each exclusive private owner of productive (natural) assets, you are legitimated to ask them to pay you a compensation for your loss of access to these assets.
  19. You said also Khadr should be punished to serve as an example.
  20. For Hu Shih, contentment comes from a whole specific civilization.
  21. Some kind of positivity was needed for us to know for certain, through Gödel's incompleteness theorems and Heisenberg uncertainty principle, that not everything can be proven.
  22. Killings may stop if Canada prepares Omar Khadr to go talk to Talibans.
  23. The main point is that one cannot question everything all at once. Science calls this aspect of their method ceteris paribus and religion calls it obedience.
