  1. We can say the same of science.
  2. Freedom is not free (for Omar specially).
  3. The University of Toronto study suggests two out of three families in the city's lowest-income neighbourhoods are unable to get enough to eat.
  4. If there is no job, job training is useless whether it is done inside a EI or a welfare program.
  5. On welfare, one is offered job training too.
  6. Relatively to the posts preceding mine, it means that if one wants to compare hunger in Canada versus in poor countries, s/he should interview foreign-born Toronto residents.
  7. To be useful as a countercyclical measure, EI should stimulate an economy up until recessions are gone.
  8. I mean a guy who will have to proof something in order to lead a meaningful life with Canadians.
  9. Science is an essentially anarchistic enterprise: theoretical anarchism is more humanitarian and more likely to encourage progress than its law-and-order alternatives. This is shown both by an examination of historical episodes and by an abstract analysis of the relation between idea and action. The only principle that does not inhibit progress is: anything goes. http://www.marxists.org/reference/subject/...ge/feyerabe.htm
  10. A Christian always asks what we have done to deserve that and what can we do to redress that.
  11. What is even more interesting about the Greek Mythology is that it contains both Dionysus and Apollo as gods in order not to have to debate about legalizing drugs.
  12. Very interesting! Coptic Christians should preach more to Protestant Christians (who are ruling international trade).
  13. Objectivity is a comforting illusion and subjectivity is dreadfully real.
  14. Shamanistic practices are sometimes claimed to predate all organized religions, dating back to the Paleolithic, and certainly to the Neolithic period. In November 2008, researchers announced the discovery of a 12,000-year-old site in Israel that they regard as one of the earliest known shaman burials. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamanism
  15. "It is easier for a camel to squeeze through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into the kingdom of God."
  16. Primitives were wise enough, shamans' entering in communication with gods was very extraordinary events.
  17. I'm talking obviously about the Christian conception of poverty (the Sermon of the Mount, for instance).
  18. There would be more truth and hope if you simply stick to the usual motto: this curse (put Islam here) was sent by God to Christians for their sins.
  19. Poverty as a social rule can guard against injustices, misery, enslavement and destitution.
  20. Turning the other cheek is typically Christian not Left-winger. If Christians would have turned the other cheek in the 7th century, Arabs would not have felt the need to invent Islam.
  21. I think that Ignatieff was hired director of Harvard's Carr Center for Human Rights Policy not out of a US need for unbiased expertise on the subject but because Ignatieff's views were perfectly in phase with the US perspective on human rights.
  22. Primitives use drugs to receive answers from gods.
