  1. So the banking online industry isn't safe the I assume you're saying?
  2. Well that's a very strange comment. So then when we made seatbelts mandatory I guess we should have all stopped driving then huh. Anything new such as online voting should always be watched closely and have deterents set up along with it to ensure it's success. I'm not advocating we just jump into this and run with out monitoring and a watchful eye. This is a serious technology that can improve our democracy greatly by increasing voter turn out and providing a means of communication to our government inbetween mandates.
  3. That part of the security is only one level that eliminates someone from turning a computer loose to hack the system. There are other higher levels of security that create the safety needed. I was just wanting to let everyone know that automated bots can't penetrate the system because of the human ID interface. Please read the article I posted on here earlier and you will learn alot about online voting and what truly is the security level. Just look back to earlier posts.
  4. There is also the monitoring of the system to ensure that a person attempting to enter the system can only attempt to enter the pin # 3 times and then the system monitoring will kick in.
  5. The Intelivote system uses the same system as many sign up sites to remove auto bots from attempting to sign up by creating a human reader interface to get rid of bots. You probably have seen them where there are letters and numbers all super imposed on lines and background that only a human can see. This gets rid of someone fishing for pins endlessly. Pins I guess could be sold but there will be secondary and even more questions if necessary to confirm a voter. Also I'm sure that legislation could be put together to make it a federal offence with a prison term if necessary to curtail such an event.
  6. Could you elaborate on this disadvantage? I know at an election the online voters would be able to vote a week before the walk in voters and most likely up to the night before the walk in voters. The list would be updated in real time as to who voted and their name struck off the voter list so they couldn't also do a walk in vote.
  7. You have raised a question for me that I will address to Intelivote. I know that you must be on the official Elections Canada list to be able to vote and that is where the Intelivote system would gather potential voters from. They would get a letter via snail mail with a pin # and I know that they said a secondary question like your date of birth could also be used as a positive ID as well as other personal questions. What I'm not sure of is if they do this every election or you keep this information for the next one? My guess is it will most likely be re done again each election . But I will check and post the response here.
  8. I will put the response up again from Dean Smith of Intelivote please read it. Email from Dean Smith of Intelivote: Hi Tom; Several things about the 2008 HRM election are worthy of note. 1. The 2008 participation was down to 36% about the same turnout as the 2000 election. 2. The 2004 election turnout was 48% because the very contentious “Sunday Shopping Plebiscite Question” was on the ballot. A very hot topic that had people going to the polls and only voting on that question; some not even bothering to vote for the mayor or councillor races. 3. In the 2008 elebefore the election dates, you could vote over 3 days (Sat-Mon) electronically. Turnout for this electronic advanced poll was almost double the 2004 advanced poll turnout, (28,709 vs 15,386). This demonstrated a desire for voters to use the convenience of the evoting solution as the dates to vote were many days before the election took place and even before a much publicized televised Mayoralty Debate was to take place. 4. There were 101,080 voters participating in the 2008 election and of these 28,709 voted electronically - 12 days before the main Election Date. (That maybe where you are getting the approximate 30% number participation that you have quoted). 5. It is important to note that in the other municipalities we conducted 2008 municipal elections in Windsor, Berwick, and Stewiacke, they allowed their voters to cast electronic ballots up to, and including, election day. In Stewiacke they doubled their voter participation to an all-time high of 71%. Berwick ction, you could only vote electronically in the advance polls in HRM. Twelve days (12) had a more modest increase, and Windsor has a small one even though their major race, that for mayor, was acclaimed. In short electronic voting can and has increased voter turnout. When implemented with many of the recommendations Intelivote councils our clients on the choices available to voters increases and the turnout does as well. HRM will be holding a by-election in September to replace a councillor who won a seat in the provincial election recently. In that by-election they have decided to let the voters cast their ballots electronically in advance of the election day and on election day as well. By-elections have notoriously poor turnout, (last one here in HRM had 12% turnout), so it will be interesting to see if turnout is better with electronic voting added. I have attached a recent document created by a US based Professor, William J. Kelleher, that is an interesting read about the issues of internet voting. http://www.canadian-alternative.com/Intern...urity_scare.pdf
  9. All of the issues you raised are well addressed you simply haven't checked into it. Secure sign up is from the valid Elections Canada list. You get a pin # via snail mail that will be used for you to sign in with. (Along with your name) Pin numbers can be revalidated but of course this process creates a review of who you are and if you are who you say you are so this takes time. Any voter can only vote once whether it's online or walk in. The online voting actually would happen up to a week before the walk in voters. Once an online vote is cast the name is struck off the official voters list and this list is then the one used by the walk in poll officials. The list will show your name with a line through it just like it would if you vote at the walk in pole and the guy takes a ruler and strokes out your name. Believe me these Intelivote guys have it down. We checked them out very carefully because as a new party we don't want problems. The Central Party of Canada needs a system of online voting/polling to bring about the changes necessary to create a much more democratic environment in Canada as well as creating accountability of MP's. Online voting will allow regular Canadians to have a say in what's going on with their government in between elections not just at election time. Then you and I won't be bailing out GM or sending our troops off to some crazy place without first the country having a referendum. For issues that are not as extreme we would poll the ridings and have the MP responsible to their riding as to how to vote in the House of Commons. This is using the same system in place that we have but just with input via polling or referendums which are able to be done with electronic voting. A much more democratic system just by simple changes that enhance.
  10. Well punked did I give you enough info to prove it does yet?
  11. I thought so to at first...lol. We did alot of checking and there is a number of parties in other countries with the same name. The Central Party name stands for not left not right... not liberal, not conservative ... we are just democratic. We actually wanted to call the party the Democracy Party of Canada but Elections Canada said it would not likely get through because of a conflict of confusion with the NDP, I thought that was pretty lame but they are in the drivers seat so the vote at the last conference was for Central Party of Canada. Check it out at www.canadian-alternative.com and you'll see we are a truly way more democratic party than any other.
  12. Hey Happy Canada Day right back at yah! Which city are you talking about? Waterloo is awsome! We have a really great thing going on with our U of W students who put on a real shin dig every year... live bands, a whole long row of several jumping castles for the kids, face painting, a flea market, and all sorts of engineering displays of their talents, followed by a well put on fire works display and all free!
  13. Yes I remember that one too. And we have learned from it. Our policies will not allow a top down organization of power. No way do we want this party to fall victim to a power stuggle and erase all the good work.
  14. Wow and I get told starting another political party is radical! This is radical but believe it or not it has merit. Unfortunately most Canadians are stuck in the party rut. The Central Party is not that far away off from your set up, except we are using a bottom up party formation where MP's will be responsible to their ridings instead of a party boss, and we want direct democracy which is similar to what your saying. www.canadian-alternative.com
  15. I am a member of what was the CAMP party now known as the Central Party of Canada. Long story but we had to change the name twice now mainly because of Elections Canada. We have members who are across Canada organizing. We meet once a week or two using online conference software. We are at www.canadian-alternative.com. Online voting is just one very important part of our philosophy. We are a party that would require an MP to be responsible to their riding rather than a party boss. (Assured Autonomy) and we also want to have regular Canadians able to direct or push their MP's via polling and sometimes referendums for the big issues. Our party is a grassroots party similar to the reform party but we will not let it be taken over from the top down like they did. Our policies will assure this.
  16. Please read this article if you want a very good understanding of the security issues associated with online voting. http://www.canadian-alternative.com/Intern...urity_scare.pdf I still believe that walk in polling stations would still be used so I don't think there would be any people out of part time work. Besides at best these part time jobs are like what...once a year for a day or two to operate a polling station. Online voting has many advantages not to move forward with.
  17. Intelivote has a demo you can try on their home page that shows some of the way it works.
  18. Didn't you know anyone in a party is bulletproof....lol
  19. You can down play it as a wholesale change if you want. It certainly will make things better for regular Canadians The guesswork is only who we now should vote for because we have little to no defined choice as to what the next power center will do in any given situation. There is no question as to why do it. Simply because I care about Canada and my future generations who will be stuck with the ramifications of decisions being made today.
  20. You're right on the money tango... !!!
  21. Ewwww that's worst than stepping in DS lol!
  22. You are generalizing with your pseudo questions and wouldn't be relevant. The Democracy I am talking about is all Canadians having input on the large issues such as Afghanistan or GM those should be a referendum item. For all other issues the government would still be running the same as it has but when a vote is to be held in the house of commons, I believe each individual riding could be polled as to how they would want their MP to vote instead of being told by a party boss. Then make the poll public before the MP votes so he/she knows how their constituents feel. Let them enter the house and vote, and then make that public also. Then you're creating a feedback method to expose an MP who is going against his riding. The party I'm involved with believes in the principle of having all MP's first responsible to their ridings. That's way better democracy than we currently have.
  23. Well I have to agree with the idea of this post. I will add one of the main reasons you have dry politicians is due to attack adds. Just look at what the conservatives did with Dion. He didn't have much of a personality but let some words slip out and bang. The conservatives seem to be the worst propagators of attach ads but I'm sure if they keep it up it the other parties will retaliate even more with them.
  24. The more people that get involved in the participation the closer to true democracy you become.
  25. While Micheal you seem to be running around in circles now. First you have lost interest now you want to discuss. Tell it like it is Micheal, we do absolutely live in a 4 (four) yes 4 remember 4 year dictatorship, unless we have a minority government at whatever level. At least we get to boot them out approx every 4 years. But then we just put in another one. Thankfully we have had two minority governments federally or Harper would probably still be denying we are in a recession. Do you not realize that bailing out GM has spent the bank dry and we will be passing on this debt to our sons and daughters and grandchildren. This will become evident as time progresses and our health system as well as other social systems disappear. So you believe that the majority wanted to bail out GM ? I don't believe that one to be true. The only way you'd ever know is to put it to a vote or poll etc. same for Afghanistan or any other big issue our government rams down our throats. I'm just glad I can stand up and say ... I'm actually attempting to change the political make up of Canada for the better instead of just meandering along like a drone. Change for the better is good and Canada needs it.
