Right on Jbg, one of the reasons I joined the Central Party of Canada is the "Unfailing loyalty to the sovereignty of a united Canada, and its Constitution in a dynamic democracy set in the framework that represents Canadian citizens." (This taken from the policy page on it's website) This means no aligning with Block.

Online voting if utilized properly can shift the power from the top bosse(s) of a political party back to the people, which will improve democracy greatly. -
You are right dobbin this is going to hurt there chances in Quebec and even in other provinces. They must have a group of idiots dreaming up these ads. Pretty much going to see the Block keep it's support now maybe even improve. Blue dummies.

This is a disturbing attack ad, as most are. Sad really. We do need to tighten up the sentencing for this type of crime, and other crimes in general, but this is really sad. Conservatives of any type should be ashamed of how their party is propagating this type of stuff. Conservatism is coming to be known as political bullies. They remind me of a bunch of drunks, who don't know anymore when they've crossed the line. It's this sort of political propaganda that just turns people off from voting or bothering with politics anymore. I will continue to distance myself from them because of this attitude. Our political scene in Canada needs a raising of the bar big time.

Well at any rate I'd bet most of the population would be voting online if at all. -

Don't kid yourself, if the liberals thought they could win an election with a pandemic raging or anything else they'd do it. -

Actually you do have a point if a pandemic ever were to happen and an election coincided. I'd be voting on line if it were available. Let's hope that never happens though. -
Goodbye Greens - Hello Pirates?
CAMP replied to Mr. Whiteman Esq.'s topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well either way who swallowed who doesn't matter the point is that it is no different than the old pc's or liberals etc. All of them are top down boss whip parties with no regard for really listening to their constituents. They all just do whatever they want to try and undermine each other in a play for power to control everything. You should find our policies on the policies page. There are about 20 of them. -

Those that do not have internet access would still have the walk in polls, as well they could go to their library or and internet cafe and use the computers there. -
Well Pat there's only one other way to increase the population so get to it eh!

Conservative Pirates are sort of like honey bees, they have one boss, (Mad Man Mike) hoard all their honey and sting you if you try to take some. The Liberal Pirates are like killer bees, same concept just more dangerous (leader named Zaggy Ziggy Iggy) but they'll kill you if you look at them sideways. Oh and you forgot about the NDP they have Taliban Jack as their one eyed patched captain..lol Might as well mention the Green Pirates too they ride icebergs instead of ships. And last but not lease in the Block Boys, there still trying to figure out how to say arrrrr matey in French. All in jest...lol -

We most likely won't be a registered party by the fall because all the logistics required for Elections Canada submission is lengthly. We already have 3 Independent Candidates who will be running in the next election two in Toronto and one in New Brunswick. We have a policy page that explains all of those questions you've asked. visit our website and read it. This party is built by regular everyday Canadians who want a real alternative to vote for. When we set up this party the philosophy came together as you see it. I believe the Reform party had it right except they did not protect themselves from being a top down organized party and were of course swallowed up by the Conservatives because of this. We are in the process of creating our bylaws to ensure this can't happen. We meet regularly (almost weekly) using conference software as we continue to build the party. We do this because we have people all across Canada now and it would be impossible to do it otherwise. Remember it took the Reform party 20 years to get where it was before it's sad amalgamation, and the Greens also took that long. If anything we are moving along at a very good pace compared to them. But this time the regular everyday Canadian who wanted reform will NOT be sold out to the Conservatives or anyone else. -
I sure don't want politicians saying anything of the sort. The real underlying reason that politics has become boring might be better expressed. Politics has become a mundane task to become involved in, because most people are fed up and frustrated with a system that is very corrupt and costing us money. They feel there is no use bothering with the system, it can't be trusted, and rightly so, therefore they don't vote. You can't fight the big machine of government. Many people find ways to get around it as much as possible, hence the underground economy, otherwise we just tolerate the bully.

That is a very true statement. We are powerless inbetween each 4 year mandate after an election. The only time we the people have the power is when there is an election. Electronic voting will open up the opportunity to quickly hold referendums or polls during a mandate so the people will have the power all the time! -

Wow now there is a pie in the sky plan. Parties we now have are run from the top down (leader and party whips) Do you really think these guys are going to reliquish power to their underlings... not likely. The Reform party started out with your ideals and look what happend to them... swallowed up by a power play! The Central party which I am a member is the only party that will have MP's responsible to their constituents. Our party will also have policies in place to guard against what happend to the reform party. It took 20 years for the Greens to get where they are and similar time frame for the Reform. We'll get there don't you worry Jerry! I'll eat that pie in the sky with ice cream ...mmmmmmm -

River there are laws in place already for selling votes, pins would likely fall under the same catagory. Here is an email I received from Intelivote on the issue. Hi Tom; "One of the newest forms of "vote Selling" is being experienced in the US (and other countries), where voters completing a traditional paper ballot simply use their cell phone cameras and take a picture of their marked ballot behind the privacy screen to "prove" it was voted for the candidate they sold it to. Vote selling and buying has been going on for hundreds of years and irrespective of which method of voting is used, attending the polls, vote-by-mail, electronic voting or direct recording equipment, none of the methods prevents it. Where voters want to sell their vote, either for a promise of future benefits, (often called campaigning J ), or for anything else, it is an illegal act and we occasionally hear that electronic voting makes the guarantee of a “purchased” vote easier to validate. If the person asking the question is asserting that when illegally buying a vote, the purchaser can now be assured that they are getting the actual vote cast for their candidate, then this is true but the fact of the matter is that the act is illegal. Which begs the question is their concern that there was never “honor amongst thieves” and this makes them feel better about their illegal attempted purchase." -

Ok so you're talking about advanced polls of the mail (non electronic type) from people who are overseas or not able to walk in vote. These people would have their ballots done exactly as they are now manually inputted into a computer system. If a mail in ballot is requested the person must use it or lose their voting right. When a mail in vote is requested they are sent out, and at that time it would be entered into the computer system so you can't vote electronically or walk in. Just a side note: did you know 32000 mail in votes from overseas failed to make the voting deadline due to everything from lost in the mail or just slow mail systems etc. Most of them showed up 2 to 3 weeks too late. Wouldn't it be great if online voting was available so we could save on all the hubbub of snail mail? There would actually be savings. The logistics would be easily overcome for printing overnight, that's a simple matter of high speed printing which is readily available. The scenario of lists not being available come walk in time is mute. Yes if someone loses their pin or forgets to vote so be it... if you forget to walk in and vote you also lose it now. no difference. The main difference or advantage of electronic voting is it allows our soldiers, our students away from home, our snow birds out of country, or any other person who for what ever reason finds out short term they cannot be home for the walk in voting day, they are all able to vote easily and conveniently. -

Very well explained. Thank you. This feeds right into where I believe that referendums should be held for large issues such as the GM bail out or going off to war. -

Can you answer a couple of questions for me Jerry, or anyone else just to clear the air on this subject? How much does an MP make per year? What is their pension plan? Is it inflation protected? How much does a senate member make per year? -

I respect your thoughts on Afghanistan. What I want though is to find out if the majority of Canadians feel about it, and have our government act accordingly, this is true democracy. Wouldn't you have loved to have a referendum on a GM bail out? I know I would have. Timing was not of the essence with that situation. You could have a point about war issues and the expedience of a decision good point. Referendums could be done quickly if electronic voting and polling was set up as a regular occurrence in Canada. This is one of the main agendas of the Central Party of Canada and the Party I support. I totally agree with what you're saying about our military. My point was when you go off to war it costs a lot of money. Just wait for the final tally as to what it's going to cost Canada over the long haul. We could use that money to improve our military as well as many other things. -

Hmm I'm not sure what you're saying here but I'll take a stab at it. When the online or electronic voting starts the list is in the computer. As people vote online their names are still on the list but the computer will stroke out their name when a print out is requested. This request would happen after the closing of the on line time period. This printed out list showing stroked out names of those who have voted electronically would be used at the walk in polling station. Only those names not stroked out would be allowed to vote at the walk in poll. The computed results of the electronic vote remain secret until the walk in polling is done and tabulated as it is now. The walk in polling results would be entered into the computer and added to the electronic results and then the official monitor would give the results to the public. The printing out of the list would be relatively an easy task. The system would allow for a choice of how you would vote. If you choose to vote electronically then you can't vote at the walk in. Hope I answered what your questioning or thinking. -

The biggest problem I see with a minority government is the lack of real government coehesiveness to actually do what's right instead of attempting to save themselves from loss of power or causing another election. If minority governments would actually work together instead of constantly trying to undermine each other then yes I'd be ok with them. I'd much rather see all MP's being accountable to their constituents through out a mandate, this would eliminate partisan politics and really give the flavour of how Canadians want it. I'd also like to see referendums on major decisions like going off to war, or a large financial crisis like bailing out GM. The government has referendum legislation in place and never use it. Ever wonder why? I do, and I want that changed. I don't want to let any government loose with my wallet for four years ever again. If the people of Canada would have had a say in those two matters alone I wonder where we'd be now. Soldiers at home perhaps? GM bought out and called something else? Maybe we'd have more money to spend on health care or make Canada better in other ways instead of reaking havock on some far off land. Don't get me wrong I support our troops only because I have to go with what my government says and they are the poor buggers caught in the middle. We need to have our thumbs on our government more now than ever to get it under control of the people instead of the people under control of the government. -
I believe we have entered a new era in Canadian politics. With the major parties consisting of Conservatives, Liberals, NDP, Block, and Greens ( Given some are more major than others) I can't see either of the two biggest parties (Liberals, Conservatives) ever obtaining a majority ever again. With even more new political parties entering the scene, ( Central Party of Canada as well as a host of others) they will inevitably eat up some votes. It took the Greens 20 years to get where they are now and they may have eclipsed. (We'll see next election) On the off chance if we do wind up with a majority government it would most likely not be through popular vote. We'd most likely have a majority with less than 30% of the popular vote (Terrible) We sadly need electoral reform and a getting back to the basics ( MP's responsible to their constituents ). This would at least have politicians more accountable to Canadians rather than their party bosses.

Are We On The Verge of a UK-style MP Scandal
CAMP replied to ToadBrother's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Right on Bonam, I totally agree. Every MP should be responsible to their ridings rather than a party whip or boss. This is one of the founding principles of the Central Party of Canada! We are a grassroots party that will stop this corruption! The parties we have in place now are all corrupt and are controlled from the top down, all partisan and have proved none of them can be trusted. Canada was a much better place when MP's were responsible to their constituents. -

The capchas used by intelivote is only one of the levels of security, they also use a long number (Pin) and a password section could also be implemented (I'm going to check with Intelivote and see if it already is) and I know for sure personal questions are. There is also lock out access after 3 tries and a human intervention if necessary. There is a human monitoring of the system and alerted if someone is trying to hack. The online voting logistics works as such..... one week before the walk in polling begins the online starts. (This give 6 days to vote online) This has been shown to eliminate the overload problems. Then the night before the walk in polling begins the online voting is ended. The updated list of who has voted online is printed out and given to the walk in polls with names stroked out of those who have voted. Then the walk in poll carries on for the rest of the time. Simple straight forward and effective.
