Wulf, are you not able to see the difference between: "Iran threatened to wipe Israel off the map." and "Iran threatened to break the blockade to bring medicine and food to the people of Gaza: Do you honestly think that's an honest statement, or have you just decided to be intentionally obtuse, because you are wrong, and won't admit it. Why not be a man, admit you are wrong, and take responsibility, instead of your lies and denial?

Do Palestinians, like Israelis, have a right of self-defence?

As a tip, If you are going to say that you aren't an anti-semite, you probably don't want to include gross generalizations about Jewish people in the same post. -

The Israeli/Pal. War and Canadian Unions
KeyStone replied to Cameron's topic in The Rest of the World
To be honest, it doesn't make a lot of sense. The union's mandate is to look after their membership - not go off on Crusades for causes that the leaders agree with, but many members do not. If I were in the union, I would be kind of annoyed that they are spending my union dues for a cause I may or may not believe in. I think the reason that they are doing this, is because unions, are generally aligned with the Left which is generally aligned with protesting war etc. So, the union leadership seems to feel justified in assuming the union members are behind them on this. -
There are a number of different ways to look at this. Firstly, I think everyone agrees that anyone who causes children to be harmed through expoitation, either direct or indirect is a criminal and should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. In this particular case though, no one is being harmed. Is the government then essentially ruling on what are appropriate thoughts and desires to have, and what are not? Because if so, this brings us into the realm of 'thought police'. I don't blame people for having sick thoughts, I blame them for not being able to repress them, such that no one comes to harm. The other consideration is that since we have recognized a deviant desire in these individuals, perhaps a jail sentence is simply a way to protect our children, because it seems more likely that these individuals will be potential abusers.

Your scored -2.5 on Moral Order and 2 on Moral Rules. The following categories best match your score (multiple responses are possible): 1. System: Socialism 2. Ideology: Social Democratism 3. Party: No match. 4. Presidents: Jimmy Carter 5. 04' Election: David Cobb 6. 08' Election: Barrack Obama Of the 514,518 respondents (7,668 on Facebook): 1. 8% are close to you. 2. 53% are more conservative. 3. 15% are more liberal. 4. 12% are more socialist. 5. 8% are more authoritarian. What? The test must be broken. I was sure I was a hardcore Republican.

Life begins long before conception. Sperms are alive. So are toadstools and penguins. How is an unborn fetus more important than the life of a full-grown rabbit?
-
Well, perhaps. But suggesting that Palestinians are delighted about the fact that their children are dying is the first resort of the morally bankrupt. Not exactly sure how I am supposed to prove that Palestinians aren't delighted that their children are being killed. No offense, but you're not exactly someone that I'm going to take lessons in manners or civility from. In terms of this particular argument, generally it's not possible to prove the inexistence of something. The onus on proof is on the one who claims something exists. So, if he/she thinks that Iran threatened to wipe Israel off the map, the onus is on him to prove it. For instance, if I make the claim that I have a photo of you french-kissing a German shepherd, it would be difficult for you to disprove it. Therefore, the working assumption is that it is false, unless I can provide evidence.

Think of welfare as a form of insurance. You may need it, you may not. But everyone pays the premiums, and they payout to those who need it. Opting out, is sort of like being able to buy fire insurance after your house burns down, but not contributing otherwise. As for what the purpose of welfare should be, that is debatable. At a minimum, it should provide the necessities of life to those who can not provide for themselves. I think almost all non-Albertan Canadians would agree with that. Where the disagreement occurs, is: Should we provide the necessities of life to those who can provide for themselves? Should we provide more than just the necessities? Should we provide enough to lead a dignified life etc?

What other way should Israel respond?
KeyStone replied to ironstone's topic in The Rest of the World
Here are some excerpts from Wikipedia. While I know they are not perfect, at least they are a source that strives to be unbiased. 1 While Gaza used to be a Palestinian economic center, this changed significantly during the second Intifada when vast plots of Gazan citrus groves were bulldozed by the Israeli military. 2 part of Israel's 2005 unilateral disengagement plan stipulated that Gazans will no longer be able to work in Israel 3 According to OXFAM, Gazan industry has been reduced to shambles because of the ongoing economic "closure" imposed by Israel 4 eventy-five percent (75%) of the population (1.1 million people) are now dependent on handouts from the World Food Programme (WFP) simply to feed their families, the largest single dependent population in the world I agree with you about voting for Hamas. I think that was a mistake. But you also need to realize that only a handful of countries in the world have classfied Hamas as a terrorist organization, so their status is debatable. The problem is that the choice of the Palestinians was between Fatah and Hamas - both of which are considered terrorists organizations, and Fatah had recently had a corruption scandal. Palestinians have learned that sitting and waiting politely, writing letters, and signing petitions is not going to get change, just as the First Nations in Canada have recognized the same thing. The difference is that if Palestinians set up road blocks - they will be shot. The conditions are deplorable, and rapidly getting worse, and there is nothing they can do about it. What are they supposed to do? If they are quiet Israel ignores them. If they are loud Israel kills them. -
What other way should Israel respond?
KeyStone replied to ironstone's topic in The Rest of the World
As a whole, the US gets nothing. As individual political parties, they get the financial support of the diaspora, which in the US is considerable. -
Well, Kimmi, you certainly have the stupidity to qualify for the Darwin award. Unfortunately, there is something you lack to be eligible, but hopefully you will be eligible soon. As for the lies that you spread, about Rachel Corrie, it sickens me. It's an excellent example of how the sick disgusting Israelis try to dominate the blogosphere with an army of trained morons such as yourself. Lie, lie and lie some more. And useful idiots such as yourself soak it up. Here are some pictures of Rachel Corrie in front of the bulldozer. http://electronicintifada.net/v2/article1248.shtml 1) She is standing up, not lying down. 2) She is wearing a bright orange jacket. 3) She has a megaphone.

While, I obviously don't agree with nuking Israel, I do understand your frustration. Let's look at ratios. Currently, the death toll is approaching about 1000, 500 of which are civilians. Hamas has killed about five civilians with their rocket fire. So, Israel feels they are justified in killing 100 times as many civilians. One Israeli life = 100 Palestinian lives. So, if Hamas reversed the ratio. and thought that 1 Palestinian life =100 Israeli lives, then that would justify them killing 10,000 Israeli civilians. It's not quite a nuke, but if Hamas was to respond (if they were capable) with a reciprocal level of cruelty and disregard for human life, thats what we would see.

I read many sources as well, even reading things such egregiously biased things as the CanWest publications such as the one you linked to. The Front page Sunshine girl is always a good sign of journalistic integrity. Well, that's certainly arguable. Hamas says they have no choice but to attack random targets in Israel, because Palestinians have exhausted all other options to get their disputes resolved. If you have spent any time in Israel, you know that patient, meek people get swallowed alive by Israelis. You have to negotiate from a position of power, or your cries will fall on deaf ears. Having the ability to turn on or off the missiles seems to be the only way that Hamas can get Israel to listen. So now Israel says they have no choice but to kill hundreds of children in their pursuit of terrorists. Tell me, based on that logic, if Palestine gained a nuke, could they not make the same argument - that nuking Israel was the only option left to them as otherwise more Palestinian innocents would be killed. Now in that example, it's clear to see that a nuke would not be a measured response, it would be an overreaction. But, for some reason, you can not see that killing the many civilians and children in response to the missiles is an overreaction. Ok, and what are they supposed to do? Fatah has fought against Hamas to try to disarm them. Many other Palestinians feel the same. But Israel is creating more support for Hamas everyday. Every innocent they kill creates 10 militants. Now, you are just being a moron. Whether or not you agree with their tactics, Hamas is fighting to make life better for Palestinians. Living conditions in Palestine are deplorable, and they have very few options to improve them. I keep hearing the same bullshit from Israeli supporters about human shields, Hamas liking it when their children get killed etc. It's absolutely preposterous, and so prevalent, that I can only think that there is a concentrated effort by Israelis supporters to control the blogoshphere with their lies. Until then, you had seemed reasonable, but now I see you for what you are. I won't respond to you again, until you admit that you stepped over the line, with that comment.

Your lies just continue unabated? Did you even read your links? "Iran threatens to break the Israeli blockade and deliver urgently needed medical supplies and other aid to the coastal strip." Delivering medical supplies and aid is not quite exactly the same as threatening to wipe them off the map. It's like you just picked two links at random, and thought you could BS your way through it. Listen, if you want to defend Israel, you have to at least display a little bit of intelligence, or else they will take you off the distribution list, as you are embarrassing yourself here, with the rapid-fire lies you are telling.

'Wising and hoping, and saying what should be' is quite a bit different than threatening. But carry on, I love seeing Islamophobes make shit up out of thin air.

Why Are We Deporting Iraq War Resisters?
KeyStone replied to gordiecanuk's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well, not entirely. You see, Canada has a refugee policy The standard (paraphrased) definition is: One who has left his/her country as result of political events in that country and is unable to return without loss of life or liberty. We then need to decide if the AWOL soldiers fit this definition. If so, we need to keep them. Don't worry though. Harper will do everything possible to gain entrance to the Barrick board when he retires. -
Well, you are right. There are a lot of people that hate Israel in Palestine. Why do you think that is? Most of the top parties that run in Israel have killed Palestinian children or Lebanese children like war criminal Ariel Sharon. Weapons and gunfire are not that uncommon in certain regions. They celebrate by shooting their guns in the air. My guess is that they were making sure that the voters did not feel intimidated to vote for one side or the other. Well Israel which controls most of the flow of information from the region stood back and cheered them on, hoping to see a high death toll. Meanwhile, the rest of the world tried to help Fatah, given that they were trying to prevent Hamas from launching rockets and demanding that Hamas disarm. Glad to see that you appreciate their efforts. Really, No one said a word? Perhaps you can explain to me why Hamas is listed as a terrorist organization then. Why not use Google and do a search for 'UN condemns Hamas'. It only returns 752,00 matches. I guess that's a free pass? So you are saying Israel was being untreated unfairly, and that this latest military action was their last resort. Hmm, that's kind of how the Palestinians justify launching rockets at Israel since they don't seem to pay attention to anything else. Or perhaps they are scared. Fatah stood up to Hamas. Not all Palestinians want to see Israel destroyed but many do. I'll give you three guesses why. Again, feel free to use Google. You seem to have Palestinians confused with the Borg. They do not have a collective mind. Even if 99.9% of them agree with the peace proposal, there will always be a few fathers who have lost sons, or a few sons who have lost mothers, who will want revenge. That is the only thing that drives them. When they attack, and they will, it can not be an excuse for Israel to just abandon the peace process. I am sure that there are many Israelis who have no interest in peace for similar reasons such as the ones who killed Rabhin. Have you ever noticed the pattern with terrorists? They are all people involved in an armed struggle against a superior military foe. The world has changed. You can not fight fighter planes and drones with pistols and pitchforks. You need to engage in subterfuge. Every government who wants to justify hunting down their opponents who don't wear uniforms calls them terrorists and that seems to give them a blank cheque to do so. For instance Saudi Arabia routinely kills dissidents in the name of fighting terrorism. Who are these terrorists - people tired of living under a Saudi dictatorship, and wanting to bring about change. Gathering together to talk about democracy is considered terrorism in Saudi Arabia. My point is that the IDF is really just as much of a terrorist organization as Hamas. The only difference is that the IDF is far more effective at killing children and civilians. Since the people of Israel harbour the IDF, and even vote for governments that do these things to the Palestnians, does that make Israeli civilians fair game in the same way that you seem to think Palestinian civilians and children are fair game? What do you expect? The world is supposed to cheer the IDF terrorists on while they slaughter children? They feel that they are under attack and they are trying to rouse up support to defend Palestine. In the same way that Jews around the world support the killing of children by Israel, Arabs around the world support the killing of Israelis by Arabs. I'm not going to address much of that paragraph, because you were relatively coherent up until that point. Opposing the death of innocent children is not treason and give it up with the anti-semitism already.

Are you trying to be an apologist for the Israeli terrorists who have bombed 250+ children. Of course the official count won't be known for awhile since Israel is doing everything possible to keep any international observers out.

Why Are We Deporting Iraq War Resisters?
KeyStone replied to gordiecanuk's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well, in principal, what you say makes sense. However, there are two important considerations. 1) The justification for war in Iraq was founded on lies. There was no weapons of mass destruction. There was no alliance between Iraq and Al-Qaeda. There was no threat to the US from Iraq. Moreover, the Republicans seem that they would rather continue to lose lives, than pull out and admit they were wrong. As long as they don't pull out, no one can say they lost, so they can keep the facade going, that things are working. 2) Recruiters are paid commissions to bring in people to sign up. Many of these are low-income, poorly educated young people who make rash decisions. They are targeted and pressured to enlist. In addition, those that are having trouble finding work are often bullied into signing up. -
It's pathetic how you all use the same talking point. It's like a husband who kills his ex-wife and three kids, that the death of the kids is on her hands for leaving him. No, Israel and the IDF terrorists are pulling the trigger. They are the ones dropping the bomb, without concern for how many children they kill. They are just Palestinian dogs to them. Animals. Savages. They don't care how many they kill. I see. So anytime someone is fighting against 'the good guys', any civilians or children that happen to be aligned with the enemy are fair game. No doubt it was the fault of the Japanese that those children died. Certainly not the US. Please tell me how exactly you think Hamas should fight? Should they stand in an open field away from the civilians so that unmanned drones can slaughter them all? Israel isn't even trying to avoid civilian deaths now. They don't care anymore.

The Israeli supporting bloggers never cease to amaze me. All they do is spin, lie, and distort. No matter what happens, they always have a lie to excuse things. When the killed Rachel Corrie, they said she was hidden behind some rubble. When they killed dozens of children they claimed that it was just one dead child hauled around for many photo ops. Now Palestinians have to stack the bodies of dead children next to eachother, so that Israelis can't lie about how many children they have killed. Their latest sick, deplorable lie is to suggest that a video a man shot of his 12 year old brother dying was faked. Their 'evidence' of it being faked, is that the doctor in the video is pro-Hamas. Gosh, a pro-Hamas doctor in Palestine. Naturally, they seek to control the internet by sending the message out to all of their supporters and instructing them to post it on the Internet to continue to lie and distort the truth about what is really going on. It's not enough that they ban all foreign journalists, they have to send out their online Mossad to spread lies about what does get out.

Conservatives to table $40 billion deficit: CTV
KeyStone replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Good thing they brought in those tax cuts. Otherwise it would have been a 200 billion dollar deficit. Because we all know how tax cuts practically pay for themselves. All we need to do now, is cut taxes more and that will solve all of our problems. -
Anti-western, anti-jew sentiment alive and well in Canada.
KeyStone replied to Chuck U. Farlie's topic in Religion & Politics
This is one mosque. There is a church in the US ran by Fred Phelps that preaches hate around the clock. The hatred of gays by 'Christian' religions is not much better. At least be consistent and don't just single out Muslims for their intolerace. -
I don't think the Canadians should be there, but at least we aren't slaughtering children left in right and blaming it on the Afghanis because they are too hard to find. When Canada starts killing hundreds of children in an attempt to kill terrorists, I'll start cheering for Afghanistan to win.
