  1. You mean, like what Canada did to the Jews in 1939? Read the sad tale of the S.S. St. Louis, a ship carrying real jewish refugees during the war, people who we know were being put into concentration camps throughout Europe. We turned them back, all 900 on board including women and children. Voyage of the Damned Here's a case where we did nothing to help, people who really needed it. But today...
  2. Never mind the bollocks, dudes. All you people who want to say, let's accuse the people who are taking Saudi money, you need to get a grip. Because some of the major power structures in this country and in the US, are in love with the Saudis. And some of them are right-wingers. That old Geirge Bush, he would never burn his koran. http://issuepedia.org/wikiup/3/30/513.jpg Whoops... http://www.newsbleat.com/bush_kiss.jpg No tongue George, please
  3. Usually a heritage building can still be renovated, it just means they have to preserve the front face of the building or other parts of the architecture, and build around it.
  4. Then how do you connect the crime of illegally selling weapons to the crime of killing civilians? You said it yourself. "In either case, being fined almost $50 million dollars isn't getting off anything so-called scott free." And remember, you were replying to Topaz when he called it a double-standard.
  5. You're not making sense here, Billy. Blackwater was fined $42 million dollars for trading violations. It had nothing to do with killing civilians. That was a seperate issue. All good up to that point.
  6. Khadr is a test-case that paves the way for future trials of detained suspects frm the war on terror. Many of them have been tortured as well, and so they need to create a work around for that legal issue. That's why Khadr doesn't want the trial to take place at all. He and those like him are all dead men walking.
  7. I hope so. The original idea was a good one, in my opinion. In fact the Imam has been working with the US government for years now, particularly with the Bush administration and was encouraged to come up with a project of this very nature. But the debate has gone to the level of media frenzy, and gone political. There are big power interests who seek to use it for their political agenda. That could be the poison that kills the project, politics turning a good thing into bad, to serve their self interests. Due to the level of heated debate I fear that the place, if ever built on that site, will be under threat for some time.
  8. Even if that was the original intention, I think it's probably too late for that now. But I'm guessing the developers are in a difficult situation. They might feel that by moving the mosque at this point, it could be perceived as accepting guilt for 9-11 by all muslims. It's become a real conundrum.
  9. Oh ok, when I'm not quoting your post, I should post about whoevers post I am posting about. What about when I am quoting your post, and I post about what you posted about. Then it's ok. So it's all good then.
  10. Obama: Change you can't believe in.
  11. Whys it always got to be about what YOU have to say?
  12. OMG what a tragedy. I think this shows why it's important to try and stop the messages of intolerance, coming from both muslims and westerners. It's one thing to say, we have the right to free speech and we want to openly display our contempt for muslims, for what "they" did on Sept. 11. But this story shows the road we are on. My view is, this debate is not between westerners versus muslims, or about the right to free speech. Both sides muslim and western abuse their right to free speech, in order to espouse hatred and anger for each other. This debate is between moderate people who want to create a civil society, everywhere, and intolerant ones who are motivated by their hate.
  13. Particularly because they want to do it on September 11.
  14. No I'm not. In all my future posts I will be sure to add "I exclude American Woman from this statement..." in order to save time.
  15. Quite likely that some moderate muslims would have disagreed with burning a bible, just as some here disagree with burning a koran. But that won't stop anybody from doing it, so any those of you who get your jollies, go ahead. You're free to do so, and moderate people are free to frown upon you for it.
  16. Unless we get into body counts...
  17. Exactly. I won't be able to buy that new Lexus sedan now, for at least another 3 months. Depressing...
  18. In a democracy, you can't even vote for the kind of government you really deserve...
  19. Not saying Bush always told he truth, and there's no way any such a leader could, as being a good liar is essential to the job. Hence the reason Obama is so loved by his deluded followers. When Bush said, we're gonna get you, he was being honest. "Bring it on...", "You're either with us, or your with the Terrorists..." underscores the truth of his attitude and intentions, something I don't think Obama would ever do. "We are comitted to helping our friends, the Pakis..." When Bush made a faux pas, he stood by it. He rarely backpedalled on what he said.
  20. Seems to me that Obama just says what he thinks people want to hear, regardless of the contradictory statements that he continually puts out. People are becoming quite aware of it, as we see many headlines and articles quoting, Obama wants it both ways. At least George Bush had the guts to say what he really thought, whether you agree or not.
  21. If they're calling us sinners that will be punished by Allah, it's no different than a lot of christian preachers do every day, pointing out the evil of western liberal culture. If they're encouraging membership to attack people, well that's different. And I know some did. But almost all of them do the above. Again, got to learn to differentiate between "normal" hate of western degenerate culture, and real hate.
  22. You kno what I mean, Mon Sewer
  23. At first I thought it must be you, MDancer. You been hiding under a rock, or what Could still be you...
  24. He's crackin me up, that's for sure! Got a chuckle out of that. Give him one star for comedy relief.
