At this point, it seems like we need to introduce the concept of democracy. If you're unclear on the concept, that's understandable. We've seen so little of it in Canada lately. Here's how it works. The scientists are not the employees of Stephen Harper or the Conservative Party. They are employees of the government and the government is supposed to represent the views of all Canadians. I would like it if the research that my dollars are funding would not be wrapped up and thrown away like yesterday's fish. If Harper were less of a hypocrite and more inclined to provide the open, accountable government he promised, he would be encouraging scientists to share their findings with the citizens who paid for it.

Postsecondary costs stunt the economy
ReeferMadness replied to jacee's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The title of this thread just shows how brainwashed people are and how screwed up our priorities have become. We should be less worried about a stunted economy and more worried about the stunted minds of the citizens. -
If you want to compare cannabis to alcohol or tobacco, do some research first. They are very different substances with very different effects. I've never seen any research that the health effects of cannabis are even remotely similar to tobacco. And stoned drivers are not as dangerous as drunk drivers. Alcohol makes you aggressive and take risks. Cannabis does the opposite.

Laughable?? I'll say. Who would think to prosecute or disallow Bush on the basis of piddling charges like this? The guy is guilty of serious war crimes. He needs to be indicted for those.

Harper's disdain for the media is well known. Those that fail to parrot Conservative talking points with sufficient zeal find themselves without access. Since most of us cannot ask our own questions (well, we can if we want to get canned email responses from some flack-spin-doctor in the PMO), the media play a key role in the democratic process. Harper's unprecedented manipulative media practises should be quite scandalous but he has shown himself a master at taking advantage of public apathy. I suppose collectively, we deserve what we get.

Ah, "mistakes were made", the George Bush approach to evading accountability. Maybe we need to stop issuing these guys deadly firearms if they can't be trusted with them.

No, he's not "down" until you shoot him 8 times and then taser him. Doesn't anyone know the proper rule to "Whack the perp"?

I think that Catholics have an escape clause for people who can't be baptized in the concept of limbo. I have no idea what any of this has to do with dancing under a stick after you've had too much to drink; thereby hurting your back.

So, I wonder why the autopsy results haven't been released.

In the land of the brave and the home of the free, Manning learned the hard way that you sometimes have to choose one or the other: brave or free. Unfortunately for him, he chose brave. It's truly sickening that he's spending the better part of his remaining life in jail while the war criminals he's exposed walk free.

Are you still moaning about this? I'll bet you're sorry you posted the link to a blog written by a guy who almost finished his history degree, aren't you?

I'm upgrading the wiring in my house. My interior decorator made a better argument than the electrician so I'm going to ask her to do the wiring.

Credentialism? You sound a little sore that I found out your guy has no training, no experience, no education, no nothing. Credentials do matter because neither you nor I have any independent means of verifying the claims. If you have 2 people saying 2 different things, who are you going to believe? In your case, it's the guy who tells you what you already believe. You think credentials don't matter? If you have stabbing stomach pains, who do you go see? Your butcher? Your barber? No, not your doctor! That would be credentialism!
