  1. That is just sad.. Horrendous.. It brings tears to my eyes whenever I read about Vimy, Juno beach, the Dieppe Raid AS WELL AS the Italian Campaign during WW2 with the battle of Ortona, the Gothic Line and Hitler's line with his elite paratroopers. How could anybody not respect what those soldiers have done for us?
  2. I also think that would be a good idea
  3. TCCK I must agree it is time to close the door to people coming from 3rd world countries that come to have all the good of this country but never contribute positively to the country. They want all the gold and glory of the country but avoid paying the taxes and costs of the nation saying that is the responibilty of those born here. Well if that is their attitude I say we keep the coutry for THOSE THAT ARE BORN HERE! and turf the rest of them. You may call me a bigot but as I get older I relize that so many people of colour quickly call us Canadian caucasins bigots and prejudice yet they are 10-20 times more prejudice than we are. They will not talk to thier neighbour because he is of a lower cast, they will not buy from that man because he is from China and therefore will try to charge too much, they will not have that nationality work on thier jobsite becasue they are bad luck, and so on and so on. I hear it from people of colour all the ime and it sickens me then they call me a racist because I do not want them here or I want them to pay the taxes when they are asking me if I ill sell them something worth over $10,000 and can they pay CASH so as to not pay the taxes???? First of all, being born in the country doesn't mean a single thing. You are putting pride into something you did not earn or choose. It is a different matter if you choose to remain Canadian and/or fulfill your duties as a Canadian citizen. Being born in Canada or being born into a visible ethnicity is just a matter of luck. Skin colour doesn't mean anything to me, we are all human beings perfectly capable of sharing the same values and beliefs. Being quick to stereotype is a sure sign of ignorance.
  4. By the way, what is this doing in the "Religion and Politics" section?
  5. 1. no 2. No, but I sure believe that the United States isn't what it used to be.. 3. Right.. Of course, there is one set of values that absolutely dominates the morality of the world. I don't believe that one culture is better than another, morality is in the eye of the beholder. Not everybody lives for the same things, we have our sets of western beliefs, and they have something else. By the way, I don't count extremists and certain tyrants, those are exceptions and they do not define their cultures. That's like talking about German culture in 1940 and describing it is as Nazi Germany. 4. Warning, long segment: ----------------------------------- ---------------------- Why doesn't the US do anything about North Korea? 5. War is not the answer, if it must take place, it must be a TOTAL LAST RESORT. War is primitive and we must find ways around it. You bring up Hitler, well we could have prevented it. Firstly, diplomatic failure during the interwar years leading the a distressed Germany. You could also say that there was a failure in diplomacy during the years leading up to WW1, bad policies..etc. Secondly, we shouldn't have let Hitler come into power, again, perhaps through diplomacy. DIPLOMACY must be the answer. Diplomacy and intelligence. 6. I don't believe that he is a role model for the world, but people live pretty happily in Cuba. 7. I don't believe that 9/11 was an inside job.. I do believe that GWB and his administration certainly knew about it though. The US failed either way. If they couldn't repel the attacks, it was a failure in homeland security. If they didn't know about the attacks, it was a failure in intelligence. The ignorance card doesn't work, no one is innocent. 8. "The objective is to hamstring and regulate all world economies." - jbg 9. It never hurts to have a hint of socialism.. We are leaning further towards "socialism" than the United States of America and I like it up here a lot more. 10. You don't think that could ever make sense? The troops are fulfilling their duties towards their country. Such sacrifice and patriotism is something I could admire, especially when they are on the side of the western countries. Remember, GWB or any bad prime minister or president does not equal Canada or the United States. It is duty towards the country, not duty towards Bush or whoever. I guess I failed your test, but they weren't very good arguments anyway..
  6. But his father was born somewhere else.. Anyway, it is irrelevant to say that Omar was born in Canada, that was just a matter of luck. His allegiances lie elsewhere, I could care less if he was born in Canada.
  7. I agree. Born citizens should take some kind of test or whatever. The only difference between someone who was born somewhere else and someone born in Canada is that the people born in Canada were more fortunate.
  8. Yeah, they are only fueling the Chinese propaganda machine
  9. http://news.cnet.com/Google-to-censor-Chin..._3-6030784.html
  10. I would strongly support new immigration laws.. However, while I agree with some of these points, I strongly disagree with the others. 1. The ability to read and write English to an Eighth grade level - Or French 4. The willingness to shed all traditional dress and customs except in the privacy of your own home or holidays or family functions. All religious dress banned in public so as to not make the Canadian people uncomfortable. - This is unconstitutional. If you don't want to see people wearing traditional or religious clothing, then don't look that way. This would be an outrage, a serious infringement upon individual liberties. "5. The willingness to assimilate in Canadian society so as not to make uncomfortable the Canadian people already here." Which Canadian society, the Canadian hindus, the Chinese, little Italy? Pshaaw - I agree with this, but not in the sense that Sir Bandelot took it in. An immigrant must assimilate into Canadian fundamentals and values: the constitutional acts, individual liberties, rights and freedoms, the integration of visible minorities, democracy..etc. We don't have an official religion, so I don't care if you are christian, hindu or whatever.. Just love our country! $10,000 Cdn dollars so you are not a strain on the Canadian system and/or the Canadian people. - No, I don't think that is necessary at all.. Doesn't mean you love the country if you have money. "Three infractions and you are removed from Canada to never be allowed to return and your passport stamped undesirable for Canada. Straight to airport, no judge, jury or appeal. Just straight to airport holding area." - After a Canadian Citizen is a citizen, he shall and should never be stripped from that citizenship unless under dire circumstances. Besides, if we were to enforce this rule upon the current responsibilities of a citizen, a very large number of people would be deported..
  11. That is true, why should we stick our necks out for someone who could care less about our country? This whole thing is only giving a bad name to those first generation Canadians who actually care about Canada with their heart and soul.
  12. That only goes to show that we need a better immigration screening process..
  13. I would not say that being born in Canada should merit any special treatment. However, being a Canadian citizen is another story.. Anyhow, I agree with the rest of whatever you are saying
  14. I agree, too much appeasement. Equality means equality, that doesn't mean that we should treat the Quebecois people like spoiled children because of some disputes that might have existed back then.
  15. couldn't have said it better
  16. Yes, I agree with you. As I said in my first post, he may not have been the best prime minister... However, who can doubt his social integrity and passion for Canada?
  17. Well, if it ever came down to such a conflict of interest, he would just have to choose the Canadian side. If such measures were called for, he would denounced his French citizenship.
  18. Why must you bring up the queen where ever you go? Seriously, what does this have to do with anything? Does the queen need a piece of plastic that proves her loyalty to the country? Even when she has devoted her life to fulfilling her role as the queen? What did you do to earn your citizenship? Pledge some oath? Well the queen did that as well.
  19. This is stupid... Do you think that Dion will some how be politically influenced by a country that has no connection to him except for his family background? This is a non-issue. Dion has worked hard to have the opportunity to run for Prime Minister, would he really jeopardize it all for a country he has no strong connections with? Are we to be like the Americans, who suggests that only a "natural born" citizen is fit to lead the country?
  20. Where do you suppose we find our identity? I think I know what you are going to say.. However, modern "multiculturalism" is contradictory when it comes to identity. Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against immigrants, as I am no native born Canadian. The fact is that we are under self imposed segregation, we have drawn tolerance lines all over the place - "you don't touch my culture and I wont touch yours". I have no doubt that all the intentions are good, but now we have immigrants who fail to assimilate and would not even admit that they are Canadian (based on their strong Iranian, Chinese..etc. heritages). Anyhow, what's the queen got to do with it? The source of national pride will come from within, from the people. A monarch does not have power over this, we have to do it ourselves. By the way, Canadian nationalism does not equal pride for the queen. We may be under the authority of the queen, but if it ever comes down to choosing between the interests of the queen versus the interests of Canada - I will choose Canada. It just happens that I strongly agree with the governmental system of the "constitutional monarchy". As the interests of my country are at heart, I will see to the best of my ability, that we will uphold the best form of government this world has to offer this country.
  21. Haha.. Biased media is bad... Unless it is biased towards your opinion eh? Anyhow, I agree with Layton.. I may not agree with Dion's policies, but to go negative on this "issue" is really playing it cheap.
  22. Oh please, would you rather take Sarah Palin seriously? You really want to talk about gimmicky candidates? Man, I am glad that I am in Canada, not having to deal with that mess.. However, if you have seen Palin talk about Russia in an interview, we might as well be afraid..
  23. No, did you not read my post? I did say that the flash and appeal lies within the republic concept. I am not saying that the Queen is above the nature of mankind.. I am only saying that the powers are evenly divided. The American president is essentially the monarch and the prime minister combined.
  24. Generally, it may not desirable to think of being ruled by a monarchy. Especially when one's conception of a monarch is outdated. However, I believe that the constitutional monarchy is a good form of government, in both ideological and practical terms. On the other hand, the idea of a republic is pretty and all.. but given the nature of man kind, it can easily lead to a shipwreck of ideological purity. That is why people still desire a republic. It has all of the flash and appeal.
  25. Hahaha.. Like "big boo-boos" are not a big deal..
