Rape victim, 13, stoned to death in Somalia
Hcheh replied to Chuck U. Farlie's topic in Religion & Politics
The real comparison should be a fascist country versus one who has a capitalist economy policy, not fascism versus capitalism alone. I have implied that through out this discussion but I am just pointing it out now. The fisherman is the USA, it produces fish (meat represents capitalistic policies) The farm is a fascist state, it can either produce meat (making it capitalist) or produce vegetables (nationalizing) If a fascist country decides to become capitalist than it will have similarities when compared to a capitalistic country like the USA. The original argument presented by you was one that stated that making that comparison was moronic because a fascist country could easily choose to nationalize their industries. Yes I am sorry, I messed up my wording somewhere, but don't steer this away because of that... *edit: how the farm and fishery produces their food is equivalent to how they manage their economies -

here is proof that I did not mean fascism as an economic policy, the farm is able to use capitalistic policies, being the meat and nationalizing industry, being the vegetables. That would draw the similarity with another capitalist society like the fishermen. -

I re edited my post, I did not realize that I said fascism was an economic ideology, I meant to say economic ideologies within a fascist society. -

well, I did not say it was specifically an economic policy, I was just saying that fascists could be capitalists, making similarity a possibility when compared to a society with a capitalistic society -

It's called an analogy, get with the program. If you really need help, the farmers are the fascists because they have the option of producing meat (capitalist policies) or producing grain and vegetables (nationalizing industry). If they choose to have capitalist ideals then they will produce meat like the fishermen do, making them similar. -

No, I was not saying that fascists and capitalists share A LOT in common. Yes I agree that they are more different than they are the same, fascism is an extreme. I was simply comparing two economic policies, that is one factor out of the many that constitutes aolitical ideology. * EDIT okay, I just realized that my wording was bad.. I meant economic policies WITHIN a fascist country..etc. -
well I did post that story from two different sources, as I said - you can look up the stories for yourself, I just linked whatever came up first on Google. and the fact remains, the Israelis may be the lesser of the two evils, but that doesn't really justify anything. No one is innocent in this mess, it isn't a struggle between good and evil and it isn't comparing black and white.

well the farm and ICBM is a bit out of reach, capitalism and fascist is actually very plausible. Why would you say a farm silo is the same as an ICBM silo? because they look the same? That isn't quite the same as the comparison of fascism and capitalism, they could actually share some fundamental characteristics. Using the farm analogy, it would be like comparing the farm to a fishery. Both the farm and the fishery can produce meat to eat so in that sense, they are similar. However, the farm can do more than just producing meat, it can produce vegetables, milk and whatever. This would be a better analogy and it does not sound very moronic to compare a fishery to a farm. -
it doesn't matter where I linked it from, look up the stories on Google. Anyhow.. sure, perhaps there are more crackpots on one side, but that doesn't justify the Israeli people. At best that just makes them the "lesser of the two evils". Don't get me wrong, I am not supporting the Palestinians or anything, I don't really support either one. They both have some owning up to do, neither of them have been very honourable to me. *edit: I never disputed the fact that most the extremists probably on the Palestinian side

it is not moronic to draw up the same characteristics of different ideologies.. sure they can believe in nationalizing industry, the term fascism has always been elusive when it comes to definition. it doesn't make it moronic to say that fascists share can capitalist traits or whatever -

I thought he was saying that fascists believe in corporations, the market..etc. Fascists can believe in capitalism and it would not be a contradiction of beliefs. On the other hand, communists don't believe in capitalism At least that is what I was trying to say, I didn't fully read his post before posting I wouldn't say that western corporations are fascism, that is a bit of a stretch. They may be exhibiting some of the same characteristics, but that is like calling Canada a communist country because we share some socialist ideals. -
Khadr should make us ashamed to be Canadian
Hcheh replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Well I do understand that technically, Khadr is a Canadian by birth and that being born here automatically makes you a Canadian. However, it is only a technicality, I am not ashamed to be Canadian because of him, he does not share our views and values - he is only a Canadian through a technicality. I will not hold him in high regard just because he was born here, as I said, it doesn't matter where he was born. Born citizens and naturalized citizens to me are 100% completely and totally the same thing. I am also pretty sure that people would be a lot more furious if he was not born in Canada, but was a citizen anyway.. So I guess he did get lucky -
Well, maybe not in a practical sense, but I cannot find myself siding with either ideology. They are both pretty hateful Edit: Of course, I am not speaking against all of them ; its just that both sides have their share of extremists and such

IRAN: You have two cows. No I don't....

CAPITALISM: You have two cows. A corporation buys both cows for a cheap price. You don't have enough money to buy more cows or support yourself. The corporation reimburses their executives for their weekend retreat in the Bahamas.

Yeah, I don't particularly agree with either side, they are just as bad as each other

Isn't it time to slow down immigration?

Yes, we shouldn't fight this fire with another fire; we are better than that -

Hcheh replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
As a matter of fact, I was not born here.. and yes, if I was, I would have considered it a matter of luck. However, I, along with many other Canadians, identify myself as a Canadian (and ONLY Canadian, none of this hyphenated crap) because I share all the Canadian values, respect the Canadian law and people, and I honour my Canadian citizenship. When you have somebody born in Canada, and then the person is against Canada, how can you say that the basis of being Canadian is just being born here? Is a person able to choose where he wants to be born? I could have been born anywhere, I could have been born in China, Japan, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland and I still would have ended up in Canada. So yes, I do consider it a matter of very fortunate luck that someone is able to find himself being born in the greatest country on earth - but it is arbitrary when it comes to your love for the country and all that matters. -

you speak the truth. Just because you exhibit some socialist characteristics, it doesn't make you a socialist. Take some good ideas from different political ideologies and you may get something that works. People shouldn't be so afraid of taking bits from different forms of government.. Besides, our (Canadian) policies are a lot more socialist than the policies of the United States -

With regards to the on-going conversation about the religious shpeel.. While I completely, wholeheartedly agree with you on the fact that the immigrants should successfully assimilate, I don't think that being "Christian" is something is in the criteria. We have values and such that transcend religious differences..etc.
