BQ Threat: Federal Election in 2024?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The NDP under Broadbent/Layton had a broader view of Canada. Heck. Rae defeated Clark. -
Years ago, around 1989 or so, there was a photo of Peterson (Ontario PM) and Dukakis together. An American explained to me that in America, a loser is a nobody. We Canadians have an opposition, as he explained, the opposition is still there. This recent BC election made me think. ==== If Trump loses now 2024, he has zero chance. But when Trump lost in 2020 - like Nixon in 1960, he knew that he could try again. Gore knew that he would not have another chance. =============== In the parliamentary system, a loser is still a player. In the US system, the loser is a nobody. Imagine.

Some people want to control things, people. Politicians want power, control. Our federal PM is a dictator. Fortunately, we live in a federal State. And we now have a Charter.
-
I strongly disagree. We Canadians get along. We have a bilingual federal State with no official State culture. We have created a structure of peace.

BQ Threat: Federal Election in 2024?

Singh folded. Telford etc knew beforehand. ==== We are witnessing the death of the federal Liberal Party - a political party that joined different Canadians - the radical centre. -
-
Available on Youtube, worth watching. I enjoyed it - neat story Famous now because, in the 1940s, it supposedly presents a movie from the women's perspective. Here I disagree. It was Peyton Place. Kirk Douglas as a bumbling teacher. Watch when he puts his hands in the cuffs.
-
Disagree. Strongly. === We now live in a multi-polar world. And BTW, we Canadians are good at this.
-
I reckon this is serious. The federal NDP has made plain that they will not support Trudeau Jnr. Poilievre will vote against. Will the BQ fold? ==== Quebecers, they always fold.

BS. I am old and my fingers do not move as before.

CPP/OAP vs US Social Security
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
The US Social Security is not sustainable. It is pay-as-you-go: a Ponzi scheme, immigrants/younger people pay for older. ===== In Quebec and Norway, we have a balast. -
Trudeau Snr once famously asked: "They would make the West Island the Danzig of the New World." ==== Later in life, I went to Danzig (Gdansk). I went to Wroclaw (Breslau). Lvov, Lemberg. I have been to Konisberg (Kaliningrad). ==== The Summer of 1914 was a disaster, avoidable. Pierre Trudeau was born in 1919 - he knew about it.

In French, the word detente has a sexual connotation. I recall a plaque in Riga: Kennedy had been there in 1938. I recall a photo in a hotel in Peru: Nixon had stayed there in the 1950s. ======= These two guys understood the world.
-
China? Not an issue. (I strongly disagree with Mearsheimer.) Iran? Part of the Israel/Middle East/Arab/Lebanon - Shia/Shiite whatever civil war Russia/Ukraine? Stupid civil war. ======. You Americans won the Cold War. As Reagan said, "You won, they lost.") Go home.
-
I have a different theory. The Scarlet uniform is like the Blue Line - police brotherhood. Kill me, you kill my brothers. ==== Watch Kubrick's movie Barry Lyndon to understand better.
-
Many creators require a drug for creation: caffeine, alcohol, cocaine, nicotine. ===== Years ago, I worked abroad with an American (smart guy). We had to interview people. And in the interview, he used to ask the question: "When you write, do you drink coffee?"

Life is a process. Successful societies ensure that young care for old as an incentive. -
Exit Polls -2024 Style

Robosmith, Knock, knock. C'est qui? -
Same idea. You declare and put after-tax money in a TFSA. All your gains and dividends are tax free - in Canada, according to the CRA. Note: The IRS has a different view. You buy risky Tesla shares - no problem. Ford dividend shares? I would not use a TFSA to buy a US dividend stock.
