Will Canada and the U.S going to war
the janitor replied to Topaz's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Good God man, it looks like you're the one who needs the reality check...nothing we say here matters, it's all just talk. -

Will Canada and the U.S going to war
the janitor replied to Topaz's topic in Canada / United States Relations
yeah, sure it would be over in a night...just like the US thought Iraq was a "mission accomplished" - didn't turn out that way. -
Will Canada and the U.S going to war
the janitor replied to Topaz's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Somehow it's just not the same thing. (Don't know where I got the idea you were Republican....Mr. Bush_Cheney.) -

Seeing as how you're an American (and I'm guessing Republican), can you get me Palin's autograph? -
Ignatieff not ready for election
the janitor replied to Moonbox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper should resign. He'll never win a majority and he can make more money in private industry. Not that I like the Liberals any better, and the NDP are a complete waste of votes. -
Will Canada and the U.S going to war
the janitor replied to Topaz's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I couldn't care who wins the Stanley Cup. I never learned how to skate. I know...shameful for a Canadian. I might be willing to change my opinion on this whole invasion thing if Palin was put in charge of Alberta. Actually, you can have Toronto either way. -
Will Canada and the U.S going to war
the janitor replied to Topaz's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Yes I do have an argument. Canada does not have the military might the US has. But we do have a military of a little less than a hundred thousand and there are over 3 million hunters with over 7 million high-powered hunting rifles in Canada. There are also several thousand civilian police officers and several hundred thousand Aboriginal Canadians who will not stand for Americans telling them what to do. Canadian terrain is perfect for guerilla warfare and there's lots of it: Canada is a huge country. If the Americans cannot control an area the size of Iraq, they sure aren't going to occupy even a small part of Canada effectively. Add the fact that Americans don't have the stomach to fight a war for more than six or seven years and it's only a matter of time before the yanks pack up and go home (passports or not). -
Reward Offered for Obama's birth certificate
the janitor replied to Borg's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I agree...Once Obama's been in office awhile and people find out he doesn't have any magic solutions, they might see the Bush administration in a different light. I think history will be a lot kinder to George Bush than what the current opinion is. Bush was president during a difficult time. -
Will Canada and the U.S going to war
the janitor replied to Topaz's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Funny, I was just thinking the same about you. Again, you have no counter-argument. Just admit I'm right. -
The US just has never come up with an effective solution for Iran. Hope Obama can do something. Hard to escape the conclusion the Americans are running out of time.

You still haven't counter-argued anything I've said. Keep swingin' yank...you haven't hit anything yet. -

Nowhere did I whine about the Arrow. And nowhere did you counter my argument. You still lose. -
Will Canada and the U.S going to war
the janitor replied to Topaz's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I never said here that I was broken up about the Arrow being cancelled. I just said it was an example of Canadian technology for its time. What I said in fact, was that we didn't need it. Does that sound like I'm broken up about it? Military projects get cancelled all the time. You're right: MLW has covered the Arrow before. But if you want to keep yapping about it go ahead, I don't care. But you still haven't provided a counter argument for the topic at hand (hypothetical invasion of Canada) and why the Americans COULDN'T pull it off even if they wanted to. In fact you haven't in the last three posts. Three strikes, you're out -- I win! -
Whether she said the crisis is sexy or not has nothing to do with the actual reality of the situation or the response of the government to it. Regardless of political stripe, politicians work hard, Conservatives, Liberals, New Democrats, Bloc, Republicans, Democrats. I'm sure all of them at one time or another have made flippant remarks. I don't take it as an indication of their commitment to public service. I think most of the time politicians get a bad rap just because there are often no easy answers to political problems. In the case of Raitt, I'd be willing to give her the benefit of the doubt because she's attractive. Same with Rona Ambrose or Sarah Palin. It's not like I agree with their politics, I just prefer attactive politicians. Sure, it makes me a chauvanist, but hey, I've got bigger faults than that. OINK!

You didn't fry a thing. I didn't see any counter argument there. -
Will Canada and the U.S going to war
the janitor replied to Topaz's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Everything you're saying is absolute baloney. Going back to the main issue...Canada could easily curtail trade with the United States and still find a huge market for our goods. There isn't a thing the United States could do about it -- up to and including being able to successfully invade Canada. Not saying it would ever happen. Both countries get along pretty well. But even hypothetically, it just isn't possible. -
Will Canada and the U.S going to war
the janitor replied to Topaz's topic in Canada / United States Relations
1. Canada doesn't need American investment. 2. We didn't need the Arrow to conquer anything. 3. Without the technical expertise of Avro engineers, NASA's Apollo program never would've got off the ground, never mind making it to the moon. -
Will Canada and the U.S going to war
the janitor replied to Topaz's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Canada does not need the US as much as they need us. There'll always be a market for Canada's resources. Canadian innovation and technology are limitless. Canada built the Avro Arrow. Of course if the Americans were foolish enough to try and invade Canada, we'd teach them a lesson by winning hands down. We did in 1812, if they need to be reminded which of the two nations is really the most powerful every couple hundred years, so be it. The only good thing about America if you ask me is NASCAR -
Edmonton most dangerous city to drive In
the janitor replied to craiger's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Edmonton had no growth under Jan Reimer becuase the entire nation was in the toilet under Mulroney. Calgary does better than Edmonton because Calgary is a bastion of provincial Tory support. I've lived in Edmonton under Reimer, Bill Smith and Stephen Mandel. Mandel is by far the worst. The taxes are skyrocketing, the snow doesn't get cleared, the police service moral is at an all time low and all city council does is chisel and make excuses. On the upside the LRT has been extended. It's only about 20 years overdue, but at least it now runs ohhh, at least another 20 or 30 feet south from where it stopped before. It's a second class city council and Edmonton is a second rate city. Why anyone voted for them a second time is beyond me. Ironically, Sherwood PArk and St Albert -- both cities having about a tenth of Edmonton's population -- have better services than Edmonton does. Figure that one out if it isn't incompetence on the part of Edmonton's mayor and council. -
Liberals are worse than the Conservatives
the janitor replied to Chuck U. Farlie's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Alberta's problem is not so much the dinosaurs buried under its soil as much as it is the dinosaurs sitting on the government side of the Alberta legislature -
I work with a guy from Arkansas. Super nice guy. Says bathtub gin and guns are okay, but bathtub gin, guns and girls are a bad combination. He's always telling me how he loves it here in Edmonton. How his wife and all other Canadian women are so much more intelligent and attractive than American women and how he feels privileged to be living up here in what he considers the greatest nation in the universe. Always tells me if we ever get attacked by the United States he'd fight and die for Canada and he'd be sure to take some of the enemy invaders with him. His only drawback is that he prefers Hillary over Sarah Palin
