Harper becomes rocker at Xmas party
DrGreenthumb replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
John Lennon lyrics should never cross that fascist's lips. Harper is the exact opposite of everything john Lennon stood for. Harper and his ilk would have liked nothing better than to throw ol John in a prison cell under Bill s-10. What do you think John Lennon would have to say about Harper's G-20 stormtroopers? -
Exactly! Every case is different and the judge should have the freedom to weigh the evidence and give a sentence he or she feels is appropriate. S-10 even punishes medical users because there is nothing in the MMAD that allows them to create edibles or concentrates that allow them to rely less on smoking. The stupid Conservative law madates mandaTORY sentence of 9 months for creating a single pot cookie or brownie, because making cannabutter, hash or oil is not allowed under the exemption system. Also the vast majority of medical users do not have an MMAD exemption, because they are nearly impossible to qualify for. Doctors will gladly write a script for sythetic cannabis in pill form, but are very reluctant to sign an MMAD application. They would rather prescibe dangerous addictive sythetic opiates like Oxy than help their patients access a relatively harmless non-addictive medicine in its natural form.

I consider myself a social libertarian. I believe in personal freedom above all. The problem is a vote for the Libertarian party is as wasted as a vote for the greens. Too many libertarians hold their nose and vote for Harper's party which makes me lose all respect for them. Currently the NDP is the party that most often stands up against authoritarianism, at least among the parties with electable members. The drug war is the cause of the great majority of civil liberties violations, so electing an NDP government that would end the drug war is the best strategic vote for freedom. The Conservative party with its punishment fetish, authoritarian bent, and plans to expand the use of the prison system to punish people for their personal lifestyle choices is the worst choice. A non-punitive approach to cannabis policy is right in the NDP platform which can be viewed at ndp.ca. The vast majority of NDP members support ending the drug war and that is evident at convention where all resolutions to that effect recieve almost unanimous support.

A 5 plant threshold is not a lot of pot, especially when you consider that it takes 3-4 months for them to go from seed to smokeable form. 20 plants would be reasonable, considering there is already precedent for that being an acceptable ammount for personal use. The average plant count approved for medical users under the MMAD is 25 plants. More sensible would be limiting the ammount of electricity that can be dedicated to indoor growing. The maximum that can be produced per 1000 W of light, under perfect conditions is about 1.25 lbs per 75 days. The average grower would produce considerably less than that.

We will NEVER control the gangs until we get rid of the Harper Conservatives who are so horny for more of the prohibition that finances the gangs. Harper will not be happy until we live in a police state, and have G-20 style stormtroopers in the streets of every city bullying and beating the piss out of anyone not carrying their Conservative party membership. Have you watched any of the police brutality videos emerging from the G-20? It may not be as bad as Tianamin square but for Canada it is a friggin scary step in that direction. Why do Conservatives hate our freedoms so much?

Our "owners" hate the truth tellers. That is why Marc Emery sits in a US prison cell for selling plant seeds and using the profits to tell the truth to the world about prohibition. Our masters were very unhappy at being exposed as liars and tyrants.

The War on drugs is mostly forced on everyone by the capitalists that you seem to worship. Public education means that everyone gets some not just the children of the wealthy. Socialism is not dead, nor evil, and neither is private enterprise. The best societies find the proper balance between the two. We have too much wealth in the hands of too few people in this country. Those wealthy sorts have too much influence on government and use the government to force their bad ideas like prohibition on everyone else. Who supports prohibition? The capitalism loving, bible thumpers that vote Conservative. If your theory was correct then why is it that the right wing are the ones advocating a police state and rampant authoritarianism? Hmm and at the same time the "socialist" NDP are the ones advocating for personal freedom and civil liberties? I used to be a card carrying member of the "progressive" Conservative party. Why have all the capitalists turned into paternalistic authority loving fascists, if capitalism is such a force for freedom? Seems all it does is further empower the rich to dominate the not so rich. At the same time their wealth guarantees them better treatment from the justice system, so all the new freedom crushing laws don't apply the same to those with the wealth to defend themselves from the laws they want to impose on others.

Mostly agree other than I think that the government should provide some services and infrastructure. I don't mind paying a little taxes so that everyone has access to good roads, education, electricity, health care, telephone service etc. Police, military and government should really only be used to protect us from outside threats, or from being victimized by others. We don't need the government to protect us from our own choices.

--trimmed to save space I actually think it is total bullshit that they would suggest that aboriginalk offenders should be spared the mandatory minimums if others won't be. That is total descrimination. If it is unfair to jail aboriginals over drug crimes it is just as unfair to jail other ethnic groups.

Opposition To Vote Against Human Smuggling Bill

I just think its pretty lame for the Libs to complain about not believing in mandatory minimums now when they voted to pass S-10. They should try to be consistant. -
Cutting The Cord -- How to leave cable companies?
DrGreenthumb replied to August1991's topic in Arts and Culture
The main problem for me is that my internet is too slow to watch streaming video properly and my provider charges a fortune for any bandwidth usage over 5 gigs data transfer per month. My XBOX prefers gaming anyway. Just finishing ghostbusters, just finished Bioshock, and just ordered Fable 3 and COD Black Ops. Tv is boring and if I am going to watch anything other than cpac, or CBC's Power and Politics, it damn well better have 5.1 surround. -

"this is what it costs" Yeah they said that about the G20 security too, and it was bullshit then as well. -
US woman has to pay 1.5 Million for downloading
DrGreenthumb replied to Topaz's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Not if the Conservatives pass their new copyright bill it won't be. Will they introduce some more mandaTory minimum prison time when out kids can't pay their fines? By the way since Limewire got shut down it took about 10 seconds for frostwire to accept all the new customers. -
BHP confident of Potash takeover
DrGreenthumb replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Just like the dispised Filmon Conservative government sold the people's telephone system? Just like Screwy Hughy McFayden would sell the people's Manitoba Hydro if Manitobans were ever stupid enough to vote in another Conservative crook government? -
I think I will skip this one.

BHP confident of Potash takeover
DrGreenthumb replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If you think the majority of Sask citizens own shares then you are more delusional than I thought. Most Canadians do not have the money to buy stock in anything, most are lucky if their paycheques lasts until they get the next one. -
BHP confident of Potash takeover
DrGreenthumb replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper will lose every Sask seat if he allows it, so while I think selling off control our resources is bad, it might be worth it to finally get rid of the Harpercrites. -
Who killed JFK?
DrGreenthumb replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
How come there was no Stephen Harper option in the poll? I think Harper is responsible, that asshole.
