It's exactly that kind of "my religion is better than yours" attititude that will be its undoing. When will you Christian types realize that, once again, you can't use the bible as proof of itself. And as far as moral decay is concerned, it has been religion that has kept us in the dark and pitted man against man. The whole idea of our society "regressing to the Romans" is poppycock. We will only advance once religion is replaced by reason.

You fail to see the larger picture. I'm not talking just about death, how about the human condition in general. Victor Zammit summed it up nicely when he said "Two thousand years of Christian crusading, two thousand years of aggressively dominating the hearts and minds of the unaware, two thousand years of brutal censorship and cruel manipulation of the peoples' minds"...not to mention the countless millions who have died because of religion. Church attendance is down, RC parishes are closing up shop. People are waking up, albeit slowly.

I don't want to turn this into a religious argument but please, you can't use the Bible as proof against itself. Bring on the secular sources. And you've yet to answer where Christ said homosexuality is bad.

Rue, great summation in post #300. It's too bad Kengs is in so much in denial that your post will not likely make a dent in his/her christian amour.

Speaking of misrepresenting the facts: ...National Bank of Canada economist Stefane Marion also admitted to being "baffled" that the public sector which accounts for just 19 per cent of total employment, has accounted for all of the job growth for the past quarter year, while private sector payrolls have shrunk...

I'd settle for some secular sources for NT validation, not rehashed biblical copies. And as far as biblical archeology is concerned, try reading The Bible Unearthed.

How best to defend our values against Suicide Bombers?
jazzer replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
Aah, don't forget the majority of them were Saudi, something that should really be in the forefront. -
But here's the rub. It's YOUR truth Kengs, and many, if not most here don't subscribe to your absolute certainties. The world is much bigger than the organized Christian religions, who base their factualness and truisms totally on the New Testament, an unsubstantiated collection of "books" that are over 2000 years old. And you never anwered my question: Where in the NT does Jesus, the head of the Christian organization, say anything about homosexuality?

Mulroney wouldn't be the first policitian to accept brown envelops across a restaurant table.

Kinda like when women use abortion as birth control and guess who picks up the tab. There are a lot things our taxes go for, and if someone is displeased either write your political rep or speak at the voting booth I guess.

Well, good for you AA. I still think obesity is not all cut and dried, black and white. At least you don't lump all overweight people in the same category as a couple of poster from this thread.
-
So what part of doctors recognize that obesity is a complex medical problem don't you understand?
-
I think that's a little general and oversimplified. Here's a different view In the past, many people thought that obesity was simply caused by over-eating and under-exercising, resulting from a lack of will power and self-control. Although these are significant contributing factors, doctors recognize that obesity is a complex medical problem that involves genetic, environmental, behavioural, and social factors. All these factors play a role in determining a person's weight. Recent research shows that in some cases, certain genetic factors may cause the changes in appetite and fat metabolism that lead to obesity

Tell that to George W.

I asked you a specific question and once again you defer and ignore. But more to the point, dear kengs, the astute biblical scholar, is right and anyone with a differing opinion or a valid challenge is a fool. More language of the ignorant. And as to the original topic, you say homosexuality is immoral. Since you are a so-called expert on the NT, you have miserably failed to find one scripture where Jesus specifically denounces homosexuality.
-
Interesting, since this particular Pope didn't believe in a physical hell, just the one in people's minds. "Rather than a place, hell indicates the state of those who freely and definitively separate themselves from God, the source of all life and joy". link

So then Jesus would have approved of stoning unruly children, unfaithful wives, and on and on (see Leviticus and Deuteronomy). Don't think you can have it both ways. Either he came to fulfill the existing laws or he didn't. And if he did, where's the love and forgiveness, and love your enemy etc. If OT law meant morality, then there is a major disconnect re the NT.
-
So there wasn't an advancement in morality from the old testament to the new one? Not sure I agree with you on that one.
-
I don't know what bible you're using but the quote in question is in every bible I have. Easy to dismiss something that troubles or that contradicts your beliefs. How about a cite or two to back up your scholar's claim.

That's because all attack is actually defense, i.e. attack in order to defend our country, defend our rights, defend our culture, etc.
-
Please keep in mind the quote in question came from a Defense Minister in the Government of Canada.

I hate to go off on a tangent, but I can tell you I have definitely improved my life by leaving the church and its dogma behind. I not only rely on the underlying message of Christianity, but also the lessons of many Eastern philosophies as well. To say I haven't improved is ridiculous because you know not where I came from or where I am spiritually. And oh, for the record, sin, like most religious precepts, is man's invention.

Imam Said Jaziri deported to Tunisia
jazzer replied to ScottSA's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I don't have a problem with deporting this guy. It's irrelevant to me that's he's Muslim. His multicultural rights ended at the point where he failed to report his prior conviction. And it's not like he was keeping a low profile or anything.
