  1. Welcome to Maple Leaf.
  2. Go Hillary!
  3. Seems to me that some of the gnostic works could easily fit into the theme of the Christian bible. They are closer to reality and the actual times than Revelation, which has yet to be totally understood. It may be considered prophetic, but it sure doesn't match what came before it IMO. In fact, I think the Gospel of Thomas and the book of Mormon are by far more appropriate to be considered relevant than Revelation.
  4. Actually snippets of some of the books/scrolls date back to around 200 A.D. and older in the Greek language. "... Mohammed Ali Samman admitted that some pages had been lost, burnt or thrown away. Even so, he had laid his hands on a fabulous treasure with its Coptic translations, dating back to the 2nd century AC, of religious and philosophical texts that were even older, initially written in Greek and a few fragments of which had been unearthed by archaeologists some 50 years earlier!..." link
  5. So the promotion of "kill the infidels" is okay with you?
  6. You fail Argus to take into account ALL definitions once again. For the final time: Racism is a belief system or doctrine which postulates a hierarchy among various human races or ethnic groups. It may be based on an assumption of inherent biological differences between different ethnic groups that purport to determine cultural or individual behaviour. ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racist discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion [/b](from http://dict.die.net/racist/) and http://www.thefreedictionary.com/racist discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion (from wordnet.com) As far as your insult, I am an English major so I know only too well how to use a dictionary. My point is that racism can be applied to other uses in addition to discrimination based on race. But go ahead and argue/agree with the dictionary of your choice.
  7. I gave you the link. I guess you didn't read all the definitions.
  8. Yeah, like sticking Revelation at the end of the Bible. That's real consistency.
  9. That happens to be what the Old Testament expoused at one time. Islam is obvioulsy slow to catch up to the modern world. They have harsh rules and are we to judge their moral code? I'm more concerned about the millions starving to death in Africa than I am over someone violating an established Islamic code of conduct.
  10. You go with the dictionary that agrees with your beliefs apparently. I'm a little more open minded than that, and in this case, happen to agree that a racist can be a person who belittles or discriminates against another's religion. It's a semantic argument really, but I found at least two dictionaries that agree with me.
  11. Irrelevant. Racist, by the definition I provided can be someone who discriminates on race or religion.
  12. Welcome Isobel, and a very good first post indeed.
  13. Yeah, and it's not improble that Harper will set a trap for Dion using the environment issue.
  14. It's pretty clear with this link re the last definition. http://wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn?s=racist I realize some folks here would like to use any reference that they agree with, and exclude all others.
  15. Resorting to insults shows the character of the poster, and is against the rules. Here are two other definitions of racist. Enjoy! Racism - discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn Racism is a belief system or doctrine which postulates a hierarchy among various human races or ethnic groups. It may be based on an assumption of inherent biological differences between different ethnic groups that purport to determine cultural or individual behaviour. ... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racist
  16. But there has to be rules. I'm sure those folks were warned and/or suspended a few times perhaps before banning.
  17. The judge ain't no climatologist. Just more politics.
  18. Nobody's holding a gun to their heads. I know many from that age group and none are fool enough to allow themselves to be bankrupt. You're talking about folks who went through the Depression here, and they value their money. But having said that, there are fools in every generation.
  19. My money is on the majority of climatologists world wide that verify much of what Gore has presented. Opinions on this thread are just that.
  20. He even earned himself a spot in Idaho's hall of fame.
  21. As there is debate on just who wrote the Bible and/or parts thereof.
  22. The trouble with Scotty's title is that he brands ALL Islam. So if even one Muslim is not a "sneaky bugger" (whatever the hell that is), then he is not only a hypocrite, but a r------ as well.
  23. Aah, the sweet smell of jealously. Too bad most of you weren't on the committe that provided Gore with the esteemed award.
  24. Addiction is a mental illness. Otherwise I don't think the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV TR). would include them in their publication. And according to the DSM-IV, addiction involves substance tolerance, symptoms secondary to substance withdrawal, escalating substance use, reduction in social and recreational activities because of substance use, and an increased expenditure of time to obtain and use the substance. I think it's safe to say most addicts fall under this category.
