  1. if poor blacks have all of the tools they need to excel but are still under represented in the successful classes then what is the reason for that?
  2. back to the OP. there is no excuse for any forms of harassment or threats of violence to this man or any other. unequivocal. "In 2016, Fryer published a working paper concluding that although minorities (African Americans and Hispanics) are more likely to experience police use of force than whites, they were not more likely to be shot by police than whites in a given interaction with police." Fryer's work states that people of color are far more likely to experience force by police simply because they come into contact with the police more often. his argument is that police are not more likely to use force in these situations than non-whites. there does not appear to be consensus regarding the outcomes of his research. which is fine and healthy. and by some heavy weights in the field of economics. 'Professor Fryer both inspired and oversaw the Opportunity NYC project, which studied how students in low-performing schools respond to financial incentives, offering as much as $500 for "doing well on standardized tests and showing up for class."' sounds like a good program as the claim is it had positive results. racist or government overreach? seems like the opposite of what some posters on this forum would applaud. Roland G. Fryer Jr.
  3. again! i just asked a question! you couldn't answer it... or you just refuse. because you don't have an answer. do you think this goes unnoticed or something? lol! here is the question again! if poor blacks have all of the tools they need to excel but are still under represented in the successful classes then what is the reason for that?
  4. i asked a couple of simple questions about things you said... but you don't have answers. and so you revert to name calling. because it threatens your mental model of the world. if poor blacks have all of the tools they need to excel but are still under represented in the successful classes then what is the reason for that?
  5. i know i know! its too early! its still almost a month away! but i can't contain myself! i'm so excited! this is going to be the most fun probably of any of the Trump Show chaos/drama in the last eight years! i mean, aside form J6. At a glance: The three hush money cases in Trump indictment imagine porn star Stormy Daniels going into great detail regarding having sex with the Don! while watching shark documentaries on tv! what lurid details will the prosecution ask about this sexual act, that the Don paid cash for, while his wife was pregnant!? what lurid details will beauty queen Karen McDougal go on about regarding her affair with the Don? while he was, of course, married. yeah, all of this information is already in the wild but now they will be answering questions from prosecutors who will be wanting specific details! because the Don says none of this even happened! this isn't going to be questions from some respectful tv interviewer. last time i saw Karen talking about it she was crying... she's a sweet girl. the actual crimes are a side show... yeah, he falsified business documents and the lawyer he directed to do so went to jail for it. yeah, its election interference. who cares! the US population will be tuning in and while they have maybe not understood much about other Trump legal problems... they will know exactly whats being talked about this time!
  6. so you make every effort not to say the word "motivation" but you talk a lot about someone making an effort to be successful, right? does that not imply motivation? if someone doesn't make an effort, doesn't that imply not being motivated? in another post you addressed lack of good schools and being poor among other thins but, indeed, decided to avoid the word "socioeconomic" like the plague. are poor people not in a socioeconomic group? if what you say is true about black people being able to make it into the "middle class" then why is there such a disparity between black and white people populating the economic spectrum in proportion to their populations? these are really straight forward questions. honestly, we're not confident with you "conservatives" that you won't just pretend to answer by ignoring the actual questions asked.
  7. you're absolutely right... a dead guy is giving Trump a real run for his money. i agree... MAGA is the cult.
  8. so its not socioeconomic position? funny i thought you said it was... now you're saying that its a lack of motivation. you seem to back to what you said it wasn't. lets take a simple example. the government funds scholarships to good schools (because in the US its pay to play) for people who have applied themselves and got good grades in poor black neighbourhoods. government overreach? if that student worked at horrendous minimum wages for long periods so that they could go to crappy community colleges then that person would indeed with great effort make it into the lower 40 percentile of earners. but the upper percentiles remain elusive to that sub population. and if that sub population is of color then... well, its a democracy and you can't kick people for wanting a piece of the american dream. of course, this example is different in Canada... because we are more "socialist"! all universities are publicly funded. tuition rates reflect social contracts to engage and are cheap like dirt compared to top US schools. yep, there's a reason that we don't have near as much poverty than the US.
  9. and nobody said it was going to be perfect or fair. i'm in agreement that not getting UI because of vaccine status was unfair. and we'll never know how much the government policy was to "force" vaccination opposed to attempting to stave off millions of UI claims from people looking for a UI holiday. UI has gotten harder and harder to get and for good reason... not like the good old days when my friends would work just enough to get UI and then quit and do this perpetually. but my original argument still stands. people don't have a right to work anywhere, especially if they are going to endanger the business.
  10. yeah, interesting. there's no end to that stuff. there's an interesting European documentary about US survivalists in the midwest thats easy to find. the survivalists were all dedicated Republicans and fiercely anti government. and every one of them "survived" on social security cheques!
  11. hahaha! i'm no exactly sure what that means but i love it... its so scifi!
  12. well other conservatives on the forum don't seem to agree that this is the only problem. it's mostly a socioeconomic problem. its reflected in many sub populations throughout history. and its a tough argument to blame all of it on modern Democratic policy. the party that has a far better record in policy to support workers rights, minimum wages and pushes for educational and economic diversification to at least get black people properly represented in the american dream. what has the GOP done working stiffs the last 20 years? i'm listening. its not nothing but... not much either. but black people know who are trying to make things more equitable for them and are supporting safety nets that only poor people have to rely on. rural whites do not know whats going on. i've seen so many interviews on line of poor rural people having medical insurance for the first time under the Affordable Care Act, knowing that Trump wants to get rid of it (remember he tried before but was blocked by his party because he didn't have anything to replace it with) but still supporting him. and so he says he's going to have something much better. he says a lot of things. yet he has no plans. like solving the Ukrainian with a phone call. again, again, again... Trumps only major signature policy passed: Tax Cuts and Jobs Act i note that "conservatives" have yet to even touch this piece of legislation.
  13. i agree with everything you say. the brunt of which is... if a subgroup of the population is poor. they will remain predominantly poor without intervention. so the question around racism becomes... when one race is predominantly rich by population and another is not then is that racism? some make the argument that south african aparthied was racist and yet it was almost entirely economic segregation. i've maintained on this forum that "conservatives" here are entirely "social conservatives" with little interest in economic issues. and yet, REAL politics is ALL economic. money does not care what race people are. if people want to insist that aparthied is not racism but is still bad then i'm all for it. because that means something is still wrong when a population is somehow prevented, through policy or lack of economic equity, to thrive. to me, this is the MAGA movement. not poor black inner city populations but rural poor whites who also have not had access to the american dream. is it MAGA that are blaming the black poor by claiming that they have everything they need to succeed? how ironic. and yet, how perfect for the status quo of the wealthy class. there's nothing like getting your enemy fighting against themselves. and not giving offer any solutions aside from protection from "woke" values.
  14. i always find it amusing when you ask people who won't wear masks whether they are going to be ok with medical staff not wearing masks next time they are in the OR having surgery. i'm not actually fine with forced vaccination. but thats not what was happening. anti-vaxxxers claimed that they were being forced because otherwise they could not work, could not shop or go out in public. they could got outside... nothing was stopping them from doing that. and then they claimed that their rights were being take away. when actually, they were attempting to take other peoples rights away. when you operate a business and there is a chance that one of your employees could infect your whole workplace and even customers... then you have the right to protect your business. employees do not have the right to work at a place, especially if they will possibly cause harm to that business (stealing money for example). same goes for customers. a business owner should be able to prevent a customer from coming endangering their business by infecting their staff and other customers.
  15. great answer. so my question to others is... what are those other things?
  16. i apologize if i gave the wrong impression that language is not important. it is. but is this the biggest issue? is this the most pressing concern for black communities? de-montivational language? and thats the whole problem? nothing else could possibly be to blame?
  17. Trump asking the director of the FBI to sign a pledge of allegiance. the first signal of the world to come?
  18. you've had your say now let others speak. is the this the general consensus among "conservatives" that statistically black people are more poor and have less access to health care and education due to "de-motivational" speeches given to them by people who support the democratic party?
  19. i laughed out loud. anybody else? is the this the general consensus among "conservatives"? that statistically black people are more poor and have less access to health care and education due to "de-motivational" speeches given to them by people who support the democratic party? i'd also be happy to see cites of GOP policies that have been proposed to help black impoverished populations. but its mostly stuff like the following. Mississippi Republicans pass bill to create separate, unelected court in majority-Black city
  20. you seem to miss the point. what the argument by some is that segregated socioeconomic conditions lead to these outcomes. this is common knowledge with many instances in many countries. the fact that it is common does not make it the right thing to maintain. do explain to me why blacks are statistically less wealthy than other populations. have statistically less access to health care and education? i'm listening. and of course, cops kill more whites than blacks. its the proportion of the population that is the outcome of segregated socioeconomic conditions. this is really old school science. and there is a push to have policing carried out by people of colour in neighbourhoods of color to ensure that there isn't anything nefarious going on in policing. imagine a world where only black cops patrolled white neighbourhoods.
  21. its just a question... that anyone, including yourself are open to answer. if you think that a certain answer answer implies racism then now is your chance to answer in a manner that proves you are not. but of course, then you have to somehow say why it is that blacks communities are more violent and suffer more police cause fatalities. go ahead and school me on that one please.
  22. there is no reason to call me names. i didn't call you a name. i was just asking a straight forward question. when you say.. "we should see the number of blacks killed by cops and whites outpacing those killed by other blacks" could you please elaborate? why do you say that as fact? the reason i ask is that death suffered by police action is far far lower in all racial groups than by members of the public. so... what you say doesn't make sense to me. unless you can cite some figures.
  23. sure. and whites are more likely to be killed by whites. because the vast majority of homicides are between people who know each other. violence has nothing to do with socioeconomic status... blacks are lazy and violent by nature, right? i mean... thats what you are saying right?
  24. Trumps solution to Putin... EU pay up. nothing else. not a glimmer of disgust with the mass murderer.
