Yes, they do. If they receive less than 15% of the vote. Only one CPC candidate in BC lost their deposit in 2006. Not sure if Emeron's running again. Given how the Liberals barely squeaked out a win over the CPC in the Quadra by-election I wouldn't be so sure that any CPC candidates will lose their deposit in BC this go round.

Mike Harris Chief of Staff to replace Brodie
Michael Bluth replied to HisSelf's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harris won in '95 and '99 with 45% of the vote both times. Majorities built on tapping into the sentiments of the 905 region. If Giorno can tap into that for the CPC it looks like a majority is a definite possibility. -
Neither of those are the case. I guess it's a good thing you aren't implying that I suffer from an intellectual challenge. Such a response would be an example of an insult which would make an excellent case study of the hypocrisy of the left. Freedom of religion and protection against hate speech, unless it's a religion we don't find fashionable or speech we don't approve of. Snide remarks about Jews, making fun of the religion and Hebrew. All are examples of anti-semitism.

The voters will be reminded over and over and over again about that by the Conservatives, the NDP, the BQ, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, the CAW and so on and so on and so on.... Go for it Steph. Sounds like a winning strategy.

NAFTA leak report clears PM's chief of staff
Michael Bluth replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well said. It appears that some think protesters don't need to be law-abiding.... -
You had given up defending the indefensible. It appears to be obstinance that you allow it to continue and used WDW?'s unhealthy obsession as an excuse to do so. I will always defend Judaism and Israel from closeted bigotry and will never apologized for doing so.

NAFTA leak report clears PM's chief of staff
Michael Bluth replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes, the new chief of staff was formerly chief of staff to Mike Harris. The voters of Ontario felt that strongly enough to give Harris two majorities. When exactly did Harris order the OPP to attack First Nations and 'Fed unions'? "Soldiers on our streets attacking First Nations and 'Fed unions' - we're not making this up. We really believe this conspiracy theory." -
Who will Obama choose as a running mate?
Michael Bluth replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Bill Richardson will definitely make the short list. The potential reluctance of Hispanics to vote for a black candidate would be turned to an advantage for the Democrats with Richardson on the ticket. Red states like Colorado, Florida, New Mexico (should be a guaranteed win with Richardson on the ticket), and Nevada would probably move into the lean Democratic column at least. Texas might even be in play. There is absolutely NO WAY Hillary Clinton gets on the ticket. Could you imagine that after Hillary's RFK assassination comments earlier today? -
Your compilation would only appeal to the converted and send swing voters running from the Liberals - to the left and right. Emerson, dealt with. His results in cabinet have proven to be in the best interest of the country. Income trust, yet again in the best interest of the country. Psychics? Childish, tempest in a teapot. Lukiwski's comments? Horrendous. Dealt with. You probably could have referenced them without such disgusting language. Yet another group beneath your contempt? If anything any CPC candidate has done in the past 17 years is fair game, than so is Adscam, the dithering of Paul Martin, the HRDC boondoggle, the firearms registry money pit. And so on, and so on, and so on. *scary* *scary* *scary* didn't work in 2006. But if the Liberal 'braintrust' hasn't learned that lesson already then that just improves the chances of a CPC majority.

NAFTA leak report clears PM's chief of staff
Michael Bluth replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I guess those who are capable of having families will always be the target of snide comments... Being Chief of Staff is a tough, tough life. In the 20 years since the CoS position was created the average time spent in the job has been a little less than two years. Brodie's at the 2 1/2 year mark. It appears that Harper has told the senior people on his team that now is the time to commit through the next election. -
NAFTA leak report clears PM's chief of staff

Does that explain the unsubstantiated accusation of tighter controls as well? -
If the Conservative's results are "dismal" how do you classify the Liberal results? You are right that Dion probably won't find a more favourable battlefield. That doesn't mean that the carbon tax flip flop is a winning battlefield for him.
-
Ignoring the mountains of evidence to the contrary and unsubstantiated 'evidence' of what Tories are admitting. Well, I guess the depth of the replies prove who is more likely to be correct.
-
A few things have been holding Harper back from hitting majority standing in the polls. The secrecy in the PMO. Poor relations with the civil service. Not 'getting' Ontario enough for a breakthrough in that vote-rich province. Secrecy is common for parties having spent a long time in opposition. Giorno has the experience of shepherding the Ontario PCs from the opposition mindset to the governing mindset. He also successful built bridges to the senior civil service to work with the government. Finally, Brodie spent a long time in Calgary (MA, PhD etc...) It has been argued that he never really 'got' Ontario. Tough to make that claim with Giorno. Harper has shown real maturity in this move. There is a very wise saying 'the people who get you to power aren't the ones to keep you in power.' Perhaps Harper didn't really get this before, but Giorno is a breathe of fresh air who will make a big difference in the PMO.

Hmmm, dobbin and shakey have given up defending the indefensible. Charles asked people to stop with the personal attacks. Why do you insist on caring on this lonely, bigotted and disrespectful crusade?
-
The election will be all carbon tax all the time. If Dion flip flops *again* the carbon tax will be the story. This is an incredibly tough sell and Steph quite frankly doesn't have the sales skills to pull it off. Bad choice, and the defining issue for the election has been delivered.
-
Thank you. The Conservatives had a strong fall and a weak spring. It has been a wash. So they are stuck at where they were during the election. Look at Guy Giorno to bring a significant change to the PMO. Relations with the civil service will improve. The distrust and secrecy of the Brodie days will slowly ebb away as well. However it came about, this is the single best thing Harper has done to move towards a majority in the past year.
-
Now you are looking up Hebrew words online Shakey. It appears that when Charles asked us to stop the childish nonsense you thought another dig at Judaism was a mature way to respond... Hey Guyser, do you see the anti-semitism now? Is it clear enough for ya now?
-
My apologies for anything I may have said in defending Israel and Judaism that may been construed as a personal attack.
-
Five posts in a row? Wow! It appears the misspelling of oy vey is yet another attack on Judaism by demeaning the proper use of Yiddish. Y'all can't seem to stop with the digs on Jews.
-
I will never be embarrassed for standing up to anti-semitism. Of course you don't think it's a big deal. Sympathizing with dobbin as he laughs at Jewish names. I guess is a laughing matter to the left. I question the hypocrisy of those on the left who make light of Judaism and "Jewish Names" yet, rightly tut tut John McCain and the horrible comments made by Reverend John Hagee. Link I implore you to think of the harm your obstinance is causing.

PM Announces Changes to Canada Food Labels
Michael Bluth replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The Conservatives want to get rid of the CBC because of Highliner? Wow margrace. You got it. The vast conspiracy has finally been brought to light. You will go down in history for uncovering this huge threat to Canadian society. -
Laughing again at offence being taken to your comments? Is anti-semitism that humourous to you? That's right. You don't read my posts .... except when you do. Here's a hint to keep up that fantasy. Remember you can read any poster when quoted by another poster. You sorta lost track of that one a few posts back. After this comment: you've now laughed twice at a very serious topic. What's the next aspect of Jews or Judaism you are going to laugh off?
-
Laughing at 'Jewish sounding names'. What's next to laugh at? If you can't recognize the anti-semitism don't compound the ignorance by trying to argue it isn't there.
-
Strange how all the left wing responses have been to defend the anti-semitism and/or included thinly veiled anti-semitic responses. tsk tsk tsk, at one time the left truly did stand up for the ideals of freedom of religion and respect for all people
