How Much for Harper's Make-Up?

If Dion used taxpayers money for English lessons, you wouldn't care? I would.. but I wouldn't go making unfounded accusations. -
How Much for Harper's Make-Up?
Martin Chriton replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
How much does Dion pay for his English Tutor? I dunno. Who cares? -
You haven't shown how it would be beneficial If it can be shown conclusively that the cost of your tax break is less than the gains (new tax money), then sure, it would be a good idea.

Children have obvious/proven benefits to the economy. I have yet to see any proof that an official union between two childless people is of more benefit to the economy than me and my roommate. Unfortunately, you have not answered my question. IF legislators determine that encouraging marriages is also economically beneficial, is there any reason not to do so? It's a ridiculous question. Until you can give a good reason for it, I will have to say no. Having children carries significant financial burden for the couple, so it's easy to see why deceasing taxes for couples who have children might be a good idea. Even if marriages are beneficial, the two are no worse off financially married then they were off as single people.

Slow down. You are attributing an obligation on the networks to broadcast debates in a particular way. You have no right to do so. They can invite or exclude anybody they want. Not exactly. They can propose changes to the debates. If they propose to make the debates one sided etc, the other party leaders simply wouldn't show up. The participation in the debates need to be done in a fair and equitable manner. Not by inviting those that can provide the most entertainment value. But you do have a point that if each leader was allowed to bring in a "fan," it might be more entertaining. They could call it the comedy debate, where they debate by proxy. Dion would bring in May, Layton could probably convince the marijuana party to support him, etc.

There is a rule for this: if you don't have a seat you're not invited. Exceptions shouldn't be made on a per party basis. If you want the Greens included get the rules changed so *any* party now and in the future that meets those criteria can be included. Exceptions shouldn't be granted when it's advantageous for a party to bring in a "fan". Personally, I dislike the debates as there is already so many parties participating, not much debating actually takes place. Maybe one of the debates should just be between the top 2-3 parties?

For that matter, why should someone who has chosen to burden the Earth with their offspring be rewarded with public funds? Children benefit the economy in the long run. Investing a little now for long term gains is good economics in my books. Having children shouldn't be just something the rich can afford.

How about only couples with dependents get special tax breaks? I see no reason why male female unions or gay unions with no kids should get any special tax break at all. They should be treated just the same as single people. Why should someone in a union with no kids be taxed less than me and my roommate?

I don't understands people complaints about that. Harper never stated he was against floor crossing and the Fortier thing has been done many times in the past. Exactly. This is why I'd be very nervous if Dion was elected. He has staked his entire reputation on meeting the Kyoto targets in what 2-3 years? Crippling the economy and sending money to Russia for carbon credits isn't my idea of a good plan no matter how much Suzuki likes it.

Yeah I also heard they plan to put these soldiers in the streets. We need to get this out to the Canadian public ASAP. Lets start airing some commercials.

"Dion, who shares May's environmental idealism, is expected to make the announcement today at a joint news conference with May in Central Nova. In return, sources say May will promise not to run a Green candidate against the Liberal leader and will essentially endorse Dion for prime minister." So May is telling her supporters that Dion should be PM? If she is telling people to vote for the Liberals why doesn't she run as a Liberal? I don't get it.

This particular riding as had a Conservative MP since 1968 with the rare exception of Roseanne Skoke in 1993-1997. She was an social conservative Liberal. I'd say that Dion is smart. He saves some money on that riding, earns Green gratitude, pokes a finger in the eye of the NDP and hopefully gives May enough momentum and support to take on MacKay. Well if money is the issue I suggest not running candidates in Alberta as well. The Liberals have a better chance at that seat than one in Alberta. So you're comparing the Liberals to the Nazis now? I dislike the Liberals as much as anyone, but that's going a bit too far. Actually Martin, he was comparing Harper to Hitler. Which is also going a bit too far. No need to worry though. Clearly a crackpot not acting on any comprehension of the facts. If you read Margrace's post further you see that he says the Germans did not know Hitler. *But* Hitler put out that Mein Kampf before he was elected to anything. A book which let German's know all they needed to know. Yes I realized that he intended to insult Harper. But it was the Liberals that put our troops in Afghanistan... -

I have a feeling that nothing Harper could've done would've made him happy. No amount of money will ever be "enough" -
I'd like to see the ratio of crimes solved/prevent through this registry per $ spent, verse other means of law and order spending.

How's it hidden if they tell people they are going to cancel it?

There should really be a law that makes this legal. ie: If someone resigns his seat the party should be *allowed* to pay out the remainder of his term (or at least a fraction of it) or until he finds a new job. I see nothing wrong with that. I'd rather ours laws actually punish immoral/unethical activities that various politicians engage in.

Don't treat poll results as firm numbers. Do an average over the last few polls. If a poll comes out and says 50% than the next day another one says 60%. It doesn't mean opinion has changed by the whole 10% in a day. It just means both (or just one) poll is on the opposites site of the error margin. We'll need to see the next few polls before we can make *anything* of these results. Headline: Tories Attempt to Dismiss Latest Polls Really where? What are these polls that Tories are disputing?

No cost to reducing emmissions?
Martin Chriton replied to ScottSA's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It all depends how you do it. You need to plan long term. Technological advances take time. Decreasing the standard of living in the short term to meet some arbitrary target won't speed up the process. -

You don't think the environment has become a big priority for the Conservatives all of a sudden? It wasn't as big of a political issue during the last campaign, but now that it has become a huge issue, it has become a priority for the Conservatives all of a sudden. How's that for conviction? gc1765, a problem a lot of people have with the Liberals is they say one thing and do another. Anything Dion says at this point is worthless, he might as well not speak. He has lied and flip flopped on everything he has stood for. His words are meaningless. I'd much rather support someone that does what he says he'll do. It's extremely surprising to me how some voters want politicians to promise stuff that will never get done.
