The Poll is what got the ball rolling... I'd be happy to see that moment.

Then you don't know either of them or eithers history. Manning in Particular is a Policy Wonk who puts policy and principle above spin and KNOWS how to defend a position with LOGIC and sound reasoning. His views on debating and his dream of debating policy in the house of commons did not happen with the Conservatives( Or anyone else) as he wished it would have. But he can debate, his only real weakness is that he has a squeaky voice. Broadbent can also make a case for his views and has a passion that..can make it or break it... and I would imagine, he still thinks he can do it..but I wonder... if he hasn't lost a step when it comes to a formal debate. When Ed Returned to the House after nearly 20years away, he was Shocked at how disgraceful question period had become... I would be more then willing to listen to Manning... and I know he has alot more to add to the equation as times have changed and there might even be more of an audience for his ideas then when he was leader. I would think the pressure is on Ed Broadbent... I think its risky... we may find out this week if there is any takers... I think its great publicity for both organizations....

She is a perfect politician.. Talking out of both sides of her mouth. One side will be what she does... fact is, I can't figure out which group she is pandering towards and which group she really supports with her position, but right now she has it both ways. We will find out once the election is over and WildRose is in power. I see a Majority Government coming.. the PCs look tired, sound tired...

In-and-Out Investigation Cost Canadians over $2.3 million

I know a few campaign managers that saw the scam for exactly what it was and told the Conservative Head office to take a hike. But alot of these scams happened between the Head Office and Conservative Ridings in Quebec and a number of the weak ridings in Ontario. -
No, its vintage Ed Broadbent and vintage Democratic Party activity. Ed has always spoken his mind, and never tried to hide behind a false veneer. That is why people like him, cause he said what he thought. Some people are confusing the former leader as a person who was perfect or infallable, when infact, Ed behaved more like a normal person and not like a politician, in how we understand them to talk alot and say nothing. So, no Ed hasn't humiliated himself... infact, he hasn't changed a bit. That is what makes this debate so interesting. Two people with strong policy perspectives who actually speak their minds. Unless you believe that Preston Manning really wanted the Canadian Alliance to choose Stockwell Day over him.... and that he "Humiliated Himself". I would say that Mulcairs leadership of the NDP is likely to be a better performance then that which occurred under Stockwell day. Eds Influence was the same as it was in the 70s and 80s, he was popular cause he said what he meant, he was often 2nd guessed or not followed...but he was always appreciated for his candidness and passion. I think the same can be said for Manning. I think both men and the institutions they have created are a good thing for Canadians.

I think not.. in the end.. it will be back before he courts and the whole charade will be a waste of time. I believe that a womans right to security of person will trump anything the WildRose come up with... ----------- The court noted that it was mostly men that were deciding if a woman should have an abortion. The Court also recognized that the rules resulted in varying levels of abortion availability, depending on the city, province or territory. The law also resulted in middle class and affluent women having better chances to obtain an abortion. The existence of private clinics meant that women who had enough money ----------- not only is it not illegal, but access is going to be a factor and that was also determined when doctors wouldn't perform or refer women to proper clinics. We will see how this plays out.. but the WR may have just shot themselves in the foot. It may keep them from getting a Majority, just so they can play to a Social Conservative Base and pretend to be Libertarian about it.

I don't believe the NDP are all in regarding the need for New Jets... ------------------------- "The current CF-18 fleet's operational life extends to 2017 at the earliest," said Layton. "Our current ships have reached the end of their operational lives. They need to be replaced immediately." Layton did not write off the F-35 plan completely. "The time frame on the planes and whether or not we need those kinds of planes should be the subject of a national discussion before we make that kind of commitment," said Layton. "That's why we're suggesting a white paper ------------------------------------------

Army Guy. I don't know what to say to you other then its the Government that doesn't have its ducks in a row. If they government actually understood and knew what it was doing, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Somewhere along the lines there is a communications breakdown and it seems half the time the conservatives are pulling the trigger then backtracking. The Opposition is asking questions. THat is normal. No one has to agree with the opposition, but the Government should be able to clearly and competently answer the questions on such an important purchase. No one has to like the answer... but it has to make sense. Something missing from the discussion, when you sound more on the ball then the minister.

TOROKAKA Its a 3rd thread on the same subject.

I don't know but I do no that Jets are the least of our worries when running such a Huge Budget Deficit. The Largest in Canadian History. That same monies would go a long way on direct ground support.. but Government always goes out for the flashy big ticket stuff. The Conservatives and the Military want the Cadillac. Can we afford this now? Governments can afford anything they want as they have taxpayers pay for it.

Taxing the rich more is a popular idea with the rich too

Banks make Billions in Quarterly Profits. They are a protected Industry. There is nothing wrong with protecting out banks. It does give them Oligopoly power and create excessive markup without an overall net benefit. Infact..if given to their vices... the Marketers of the Banking Industry would overthrow the Conservative Banking side and "invest" our monies as successfully as Madof..or CIBCs investment in Enron and coverup.... These very same people earn far in excess of 500,000 and its often shown that a person making $300,000 can pay less in taxes % wise..then a person making $40 to $60 thousand. Add in that the incomes of the middleclass are going down... the money has to come from somewhere ... Its either going to be flat rate HST taxes & User Fees or those who are in a comfortable position can pay their fair share. Regardless.. some people who make good money are willing to pay more in taxes if they can see the benefits of doing so... The rest of us see the waste... but people need many of the services ... I find it strange that our Country is protected by our military... it is an expensive undertaking.... and yet those who benefit the most from being in Canada..like those in Financial and Banking Markets.. even Insurance... don't want to foot the bill. So the irony is... from many Conservative supporters..and previous to this Liberal Supporters is the concept... We need XYZ program (like the F35s) it cost $25Billion And then those same supporters..knowing full well the expense, the needs and the cost overruns.. will say they want to pay less taxes... Revenue in Revenue Out Someone has to pay. What people really want is... Good Government.. -

The In and Out scheme was brilliant double dipping into the taxpayers pockets.. Riding Association Campaign receives $10,000 from Federal Party. Riding Association Gives back 10,000 to Federal Party.. Federal Party Spends $10,000 as Election Expense Come Election Expense time.. the Riding Association Campain lists the $10,000 as election Expense Federal Party puts in 10,000 for Tax Credit Provincial Riding Association puts in for 10,000 for Tax Credit. Federal Party hides total election expenditures.. while double dipping -

The In and Out is an admission of Guilt. I realize your problem.. its the same problem the Chretien Liberals faced and many many of their supporters lived in the same land of denial that is now the comfy home of Conservative Lapdogs.. There is nothing wrong with wanting to clean up corruption, and illegal practices..kinda what the Reform Party used to campaign on. But Harper Conservatives tend to follow the Mulroney, Chretien path.. -

madmax replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is the typical tax the middle class... just like the HST is more geared to sticking it to middle class.. be it upper or lower... This is exactly the kind of taxation that would be replaced if the taxation system was proportional. A person making 500,000 pays 900 in health tax.. same as a person making 60,000. Its these tax shifts which have been going at the middleclass for about 20 years while tax breaks.. have been giving to those with greater wealth. Same with the shift to GST, HST.. and in LiberaCon BC.. the Carbon tax... all focused on getting the nickles and dimes from the middleclass while those with obsene money do just fine.. -
Will the Collapse of Greece affect Canada?
madmax replied to Rocky Road's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I find it interesting that Greece is getting all this attention. Its damage is compared to what Madof accomplished on his own. Greeces Corruption index is high.. similar to Madof being crooked. Similar to Enron, Worldcom, Bree X, and the list goes on of Corruption affecting the economy. Its not a Captalisms Socialism problem.. but many would like it to be for political reasons. If you compare the Irish Tiger... now in a SIMILAR funk as a Greece... its problems were caused by its on banking institutions playing the mortgage game.... sound familiar. If you took away the Corruption/Abuse of US mortgages.. the Stock Market Manipulation...the US would not have been squeezed as hard and in as deep. On top of that the US shipping its work offshore so that Capitalists can benefit in Communist/Socialist countries, has also created the slow rebound.. Greece... is the Whipping boy of the right wing and a great distraction from all the problems around them. When you want to get out of the whole .. stop digging.. and in countries that have high corruption... that hole is going to stick around and get deeper.
