Toronto judge has banished a Christmas tree
madmax replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well, the judge is jewish and is obviously clueless that the Christmas tree is NOT a Christian symbol or she has some particular agenda. Really? What does the star on the top of the tree reprsent? Well, but I know a Jehovah Witness whom would not go into a room with a pagan tree. Many trees don't have stars, some do. Some have SANTA CLAUSE on top. I saw him fighting on South Park and he defeated the son of man. What if a tree had mr hanky? The christmas pooh. Isn't this offensive? Jewish Judge eh, Don't tell David Duke, he'll book a flight from Tehran to Toronto. -
Are the Liberals the NEW NDP. Erm, uh, No? Sound like Liberals to me. But are the Conservatives just a bunch of Blue painted Liberals. Emerson, Bagman to the unaccountable Senate, to hold the MONEY ACCOUNT!!! Or Are the Conservatives hiding behind the NDP. Pat Martin to help prop up their Accountability act, with lots from former MP Ed Broadbent. I think Baird and Martin, looked a little to close, couldn't see their eyes but, Sam and Frodo, nudge nudge wink wink. Conservatives adopting the NDP position on Quebec, while the Liberals Wavered, and continue to Waver. Conservatives having green tea with the NDP on the clean air act. Also known as DOA. Actually, compared to the Martin government which also talked the talk about the issues above, the Conservatives are actually working with the NDP, and the Bloc. But wait, it will just be a matter of time when these fat cats choose to line their own pockets more, and the Libs and Conservatives will vote together, on many issues, like their history shows. I don't think you will ever see a Liberal Party based around MouseLand.

It's not a joke, it is a gimmick for re-election. Something to hit the Liberals over the head with. I have been watching alot of shows and Harper is before the Senate now, and the commentary often goes back to people talking more about Abolishing the Senate, as opposed to commenting on the gimmick. This may just backfire on Harper. But, maybe we can get rid of more government inadvertantly. No more Senate, except on the ICE. I don't want those Senators abolished, that happened in the early 1900s, took nearly 90 years to get them back on the ICE. I want those other Senators, Squashed. Liberal and Conservative alike. Save tax payers money. Abolish the Senate.

Looks like you have already decided. Hmm, Liberal eh, by that list everything looks pretty stinky. Let me think about it. Emerson, Fortier, Raising taxes, (if you believe Preston Manning and Mike Harris), Many uncompleted files above. Well, now that I think about it, why would I want to pay for another election. I don't like any of the above, and they haven't earned their pay yet. Get back to work you lazy politicians. No, they can stay at the job for another 3 to 4 years, and I will be happy.

I would be very surprised if the liberals could sweep Ontario come an election in 2007.
-
Quelle Surprise. If the NDP weren't so incompetent and so intent on not governing, perhaps the Liberals would feel more pressure from the left. Is it that important that the Liberals feel pressure from the Left?

Stephen Harper or Bill Clinton....out of COMPLETE boredom

The other thing about this poll: From Decima's CEO: "I guess the question for the NDP is, if Stephane Dion is positioned as a centre-left, environmentally-preoccupied, social-justice-motivated leader, does that further put pressure on the NDP voter pool? "So far, I think, the evidence is yes it does. The NDP numbers are soft." Oh look, the Liberals had a convention, and discovered issues such as social justice, the environment and the existance of the left. I don't believe that Social Justice, The Environment, and the existance of left wing voters didn't exist in the 1990s through to the last election. So whats new, the Liberals are going to campaign from the left again? Quelle Surprise.

Is this the new progressive Liberal way that all the leadership candidates talked about? Seems like same old, same old Liberal way of doing business to me. Delay and pay is the Liberal way. I was watching CTV and more then a few Senators when questioned for change vs status quo, actually suggested abolishing the Senate. I am not big on checks and balances, leave that for the US. I know that once a government earns the trust of the Majority, they get to run with the ball. We can move very fast in one direction, and then if things aren't going well, we can elect another majority or minority and slow down the change, or change the direction quickly and effectively. The Senate rarely raises a peep, I recall a few moments during the Mulroney years. But really most of these quys are very glorified rubber stamps no matter whom is in power. I still want it abolished, I agree with the Senators that offered abolishment as a viable option.

Wow, I think this thought has potential for discussion. I mean premiers are supposed to be busy folk and all, but there is something in this Idea I like.

Court orders U.S. to repay all softwood lumber duties
madmax replied to normanchateau's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Even US courts have now ruled against the US lumber lobby. Good thing Stephen Harper gave the lumber lobby that billion of our money. They can use those funds to keep fighting us in US courts. Now they a billion to fight us with our own dollars in future. Brilliant move Harper. It'll cost you votes in BC. No wonder Harper is now more than 10 points behind the Liberals in the latest BC poll. Well, I don't know about BC but I was at a trade show in Ontario, and I had been under the impression that Harper got the best deal he could. However, many in the industry don't have alot of good things to say about the deal or the conservatives based upon their rush to deal for the sake of a deal. I do know that Northern Communities have been hit hard by this, and It's unlikely he will grow seats in the area, but the general opionion of this trade show was that Harper Sold out, just to say he resolved it. Many just shook their heads in complete disgust. -
I think that the Senate should be abolished. However, that would require opening the Constitution. And these aren't anywhere near elections. Harper's calling it "consultations." The prime minister would be free to ignore the referendum that chooses a candidate. They're calling this a compromise? I think a province could challenge it the Supreme Court and win because it fundamentally changes the Senate. The only way to change to the Senate is to change the Constitution. I thought Stephen Harper addressed Senate Reform in his first few days in office. He lead by example and appointed a backroom boy, giving him the file with the big pile of our money that the liberals used to exploit. Now somehow thinking I have forgotten about this indescretion which challenges ones credibility, he offers the tiniest smallest baby step to appease his base. This isn't about us, its about votes. I am with the above that the Senate should be abolished. Open the constitution if we have to, and lets get on with it.

[ Liberal Red, is it? Nice drive-by there. Look, is this ... Tory blue? Where did you find that picture. Is this a real church or someone having fun with us? On the surface that picture looks a little disturbing. -
I think it is funny that this is getting any kind of attention at all. I think Golda Meir led Israel in the 60s, Indira Gandi, and Margarat Thatcher lead India and Britain in the 80s, many women have run and led countries, including Progressive Conservative Kim Campbell. As as the NDP had 2 women leaders prior to Layton. But running and getting elected are different kettles of fish. For one thing its POLITICS. There are more factors then the best Candidate, etc, many more factors. Regardless, if the Liberals want to play catchup , with parties like the NDP which have had policies to seek out a female nominee for each riding for over 30 years, or maybe have a female leader one day, like the Conservatives Choose in the 90s. Let them But really, is this news in 2006? I don't think the Conservatives or the NDP are actually going backwards on their beliefs past practices, so what's the big deal with the Liberals? Is this really newsworthy? I think well forget about it within a week.

Belly up to the trough, beware of blue and red pigs falling over one another. Good For Kormos, at least he speaks his mind. No wonder these guys voted down Kormos earlier Motion to put a freeze on property tax. They knew they had to have money to pay for their big fat pay increases and would have nothing extra to offer the municipalities. They talk about their wages as if they are in a race with their federal counterparts. I feel so sorry for these poor exploited politicians. $22,000 raise? Your thoughts next:-).

Poll: Should We Have A Referendum On Same-Sex Marriage?
madmax replied to betsy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yeah but then you'd be robbing a minority of his freedom to practice religion. Or we could just not allow muslims into Canada and these issues won't be an issue any longer. -- Shariah Law quote: "As to those women on whom part you fear disloyalty and ill conduct, admonish them (first), (next), refuse to share their beds, (and last) beat her." Q: Under Sharia law, how would you punish someone who criticised Islam or the Prophet? A: "To the people who insult the Prophet, they should be first corrected. If the person is a Muslim, he or she should be given advice, so that they'll ask forgiveness. Otherwise he will be considered an apostate, and in Islam he should be sentenced to death if he doesn't ask forgiveness and insults the Prophet." This is my 'vision' of Canada. Here is Arar's wife: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2004/03/10/..._ndp040310.html I have noticed a trend that you provide links that do little to advance your arguments or the comments that appear to be attributed to the links you provide. This is about the 3rd or 4th time, I follow one of your links and find nothing of importance attached -

What is your most important issue
madmax replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is a weighted poll with two issues getting double the poll. The economy and taxes are separate issues. As taxes effect each and every issue mentioned, it show read, Economy and taxes Environment and taxes Health Care and taxes Immigration and taxes We have Environmental taxes, We have Health Care Taxes, We have had Poll taxes on immigrants. So, this is not a good poll, as well taxes can be read quite liberally for tax increases, tax incentives, tax decreases, and many many more items such as income tax reductions, to GST increases/decreases. Or you could just ask Economy Health Care Environment Immigration Taxes -
OPG boss walks away with $ 3M severance
madmax replied to myata's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Yes, Elenor Clitheroe, I believe, whom also was handsomely bought out. It seems that the idea of Corporate Entitlement, has permeated all facits of society. All the Nortel Guys, John Roth, etc, Canada has failed to make executives accountable, and the US has managed to find its fair share of Canadians exploiting entitlements in the States. (world com) Seems Conrad Black got off Lightly here, We let off executives and we coddle them and send them off rich and happy, and they still cry foul. North Americans have seen an ever increasing amount of corporate abuse, and I think this is reflective of their increase in power. Nothing like some stiff jail sentences for corporate abusers to straighten things out. -
Who cares, their both the same. There has to be a better choice.

Canada Must Do Housecleaning
madmax replied to jefferiah's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Is there any body else you'd like to let into the country so we can trash some more of our culture. Who am I letting in to the country? I don't know that you personally let any body in, but the government certainly has and you want to blame US gun makers because these foreign thugs run around with guns. I say through the thugs out and entice the US gun makers to set up shop here. One interesting things about open forums, is we do get to hear some really BAD ideas as well as some good ones. Not to comment on the proliferation of criminal organizations or their origins, but to offhandedly suggest something as foolish as enticing US gun makers to set up shop here, is the silliest thing I have ever heard of. -
Hindsight is 20/20 and both governments came in waves. Rae has already been judged a failure by the electorate. Raes biggest flaw is that he created the conditions to allow Harris to come in. And he has also been judged by the electorate. With regards to Keynesian policy, it was formated around cyclical econonic models and the boom and busts of manufacturing and the market. Obviously, the jobs leaving Ontario at that time were more driven by the need to relocate because the Free Trade deal which was expanding towards Mexico. The Exodus in Ontario was like nothing seen before. Regardless of the government in power provincially, this would have occurred as industry took advantage of the new trade agreement. The difference is that Rae, and my guess any premier, in those first years, would have invoked the Keynesian model. There wasn't the clear understanding that Unlike layoffs of the 80s, where factories would restart, and capital projects would start during a slowdown, the factories in the 90s left, for dirtier pastures in Mexico and southern states. Keynesian wouldn't have worked then, and it would be difficult to work in a global model. It is effective to a degree in a protectionist model. No economic policy is ever perfect, nor any model accurate in showing advantages or criticisms. BTW there are always critics;-). Mike Harris was certainly more Ideologically driven then Rae. Rae was judged for trying to govern, and not addressing his base, including the newly swung over teachers, whom abandoned the Liberals after abandoning the Davis Conservatives. Rae abandoned many promises, like the Liberals were known for, Rae came from a liberal background and then governed like one. Rae created toll roads (I hate this) and Harris Sold the Roads ( I hate this More) Rae created Rae days (Now evolved into workshare as a federal EI program And Harris gave a Handshake, Adios inspectors and protectors. Between the two failures, I think its a toss up. Good Riddence to both, I wouldn't want to see either again.

Well the company that I work for has been doing between 70-80 million per year. This year is going to be tough. Probably coming in at 65 million, hopefully do the same next year. Their property tax is 35,000 per year. And they want that eliminated completely in the form of tax relief. It's a drop in the bucket if you ask me, imho.

How do we fix Canada's Healthcare crisis?
madmax replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If we can say those countries are at peace, we probably could have said the same for Jews prior to World War II. If I remember my history correctly, that is exactly what Canada did do. We sent them back to Europe. This is a thread on HEALTH CARE and someone has a fixation on immigrants. It has been a good thread, regardless. -
I have a nice Merlot I will open tonight in your honour. Now if you are offended by the term bub I will apologize. An apologist for the industry? Wow...you dont know me then. I will state what on the surface seems to be approval of the industry, but with analysis you will find I dont. However, if in fact you deal with the Ontario Insurance Board , why would you put in print erroneous information? Perhaps I should just come out and call your bluff ? I guess I just did. So , give me some stories how they break the law? And in fact I am not all that fond of Ins Co's myself. Thats why it is good to have me on your side fighting for you. So I don't know the Ontario market? The mere fact that I am in the middle of the most expensive auto insurance market in the country (Toronto) means I do know. I have insureds up in Thunder Bay, Sudbury , Ottawa, Huntsville , Guelph, Windsor and London, so I do know the market. Look, if your telling me everything is ok, and you have insurers, (insureds?) then perhaps you will send me a quote? I am on holiday, but clearly you ar working hard posting messages:-). Like I said, I just renewed my insurance on my old truck, but am happy to consider options on a new one. You are in Toronto, have a 4 year old vehicle with FULL coverage and pay less than me. My guess is you are much younger then me too. Infact, the last time I made a claim "No fault" didn't exist yet. I live rural, I am interested in quoting on a recent vehicle about 3 years old. I have a 6 driving record. I usually have more than one vehicle As for my dealings with the OIB that was in the mid 90s, I haven't misled anything, I can't speak of my own case, because of non disclosure. The whole BS about it, makes me sick. And if you want to know about those in the industry with regards to breaking the law, you only have to talk shop amongst yourselves, you don't need me. Insurance companies have to go after each other in order to self police. When it's me, I am just one person, but once they realize it affects them, well they wake up. But individuals don't know about these infractions, and I am not about to make a one man crusade against every law breaking insurance company. People break laws all the time, if you believe that the industry is any different, then open that Merlot and enjoy.
