Budget Raises Doubts Among Some Conservatives
madmax replied to Progressive Tory's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Americans have been purchasing some very profitable Canadian operations and closing them down for sometime in order to amalagamate the technology in existing operations in the US, or in New larger facility in Mexico or China. Some Canadian firms also sit on some very juicy contracts that American operations have been unable to secure because of price or quality issues. Purchasing a Company will get you the contracts, and if the contracts are more valueable then the company, close it down through bankruptcy if need be. This has been one of the largest reasons for Plant Closures in Ontario. Obvisusly with US government incentive they are more likely to channel more of these purchases into US operations. -
You opened a can of worms... 2 Questions. 1) Why Iggy easier then Dion? 2) Why might the CPC NOT be intack by the next election?

The CPC rose transfer payments to Quebec by 74%? WHY? -

As one was a late comer to Confederation, just over a half century with us and now in the have status, I am not going to grind NFLD. -
Many companies now fly the American Flag without the Canadian Flag in my region. The American Flag is atop of the local Tim Hortons/Wendys franchise. It may be bad manners, but the American Flag is just as common as the Canadian Flag in my area. Exactly.

My Man Michael not Taking this Lightly

Neither is Iggy. It seems that he will sup with Flaherty rather then lead a coalition. All he wanted was a dinner plate -
That is the most pathetic and lame excuse I have ever heard. Waterboarding is an ok form of torture? Maybe cutting off 1 finger is ok? Perhaps just the ear is alright? One testicle seems popular? The fact is, when it is important for someone educated like him, to stand up for what is right, he coward and caved or he took up a chair beside Harper and said... Right on Brother, I am with you an Bush. Just because Iggy and Harper share the same ideology is no reason to be an apologist.

There is NO excuse for IGGY. Don't try to cover his incompetent decision making to support Naked Aggression. This is something you cannot sugarcoat or back out of. He supported a war or Aggression. Had he been Prime Minister he would have had our troops there. Perhaps he didn't notice that there were 100s of millions of people around the globe against this. Perhaps you should look at the people of Iraq then and compare there situation today. It has been 6 years and it is a bloody mess. Few are happy with the situation. When you are in a position of power, it is these decisions you have to get right. I cannot understand why you would dare bring up the BUSH defence for Iggy. Good luck with that.

It certainly could have come from the Liberal Camp because they appear pretty happy about it. It's a budget Bob Rae would be proud of, or Brian Mulroney, or maybe even Trudeau. -
You are making me proud Alta4ever. I will back any Albertan backing Canada.

Online voting poll Are you in favour Yes or No?
madmax replied to tomcat's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I look forward to voting as an excuse to leave work. -
It was the only 2 minutes that I stood in one spot. Get head up off desk, open eyes, stand for anthem, go back to desk, put head down, close eyes. I used to hold the Union Jack .... uh oh... too far back.

 STOP IT , You are killing me.

And you know well enough that this deficit (Large as it is) is not going to produce the conditions you described earlier. I sense your hesitation, and I believe that you are sucking up this budget and not because you believe in it. You are winning me over. That is one hell of a list... (Yeah I know) too, do it myself sometimes. I will let you rest with those topics. I don't think there is much to debate over, but lots to highlight. I think you hit many things and all I could do would be add some other questionable practices to the list, merely to add to a bad dream. Erm,,, No.... I must have really ticked you off. At least you didn't think I was involved in insurance. Then I would have to take offense.

There is no excuse for Iggy.

I completely agree with everything you said.
-
Exactly. Nothing to be proud of, but I expect it from Harper. Just as I expect someone who has a PHD and is supposedly supports Human Rights Shouldn't be an advocate of Torture or Naked Agression.
-
The fact that the man had no courage to stand up against the war is more important then his position to run away from a disaster zone after the fact. He choose to be with Bush and Harper.
-
Toro Kaka. You are laying it on way to thick. Your support for Iggy has no bounds. I should get you some Maple Syrup. Iggy supported the invasion. Deal with it.

I would like you to explain this in greater detail. Coming from this sector and still working in much of it, dedicated to closures, I would rather you flesh it out a little deeper. Your theories are solid, traditional and basic. Unfortuneately, you have to drop the textbook and do some digging as to what is really happening within the manufacturing. Yup, thanks. In the meantime, I bounce between Grant Thorton LLP and KPMG dealing with Industrial "Bankruptcies" among other things.

It was also the only mechanism for a demoralized and defeated party to find away to get up off their knees and onto their feet. Without the impetus of the coalition the LPC would still be laying in the fetal position taking kicks from the PM and probably forced into an election they could not have contested but would have no choice to do. And spoke openly against when the coalition was going downhill, but shortly before it went over the cliff. Not changing my opinion of Dion now, anymore then when he was first appointed leader of the LPC. The LPC were naive fools to choose him leader once. The 2nd time, to lead the coalition they should have been ashamed of themselves. Regardless, the coalition was dead the moment Dion took helm and he screwed it up 3 days faster then I predicted. The fact is the LPC needed the coalition more then any other party. The LPC also needed to drop the coalition more then the NDP once the LPC found its footing. Well, yeah, he said one or two things... but it took 20 minutes and he..... unfortuneately messed it up royally. However, not to be outdone, Dion came to speak and managed to perform just as poorly, which then firmed up the CPC victory. Don't let short-term hostility get in the way of your posts.... we are here for a long time.... I await your response in another thread as well, to flesh out your economic perspective.
-
It is a typical Canadian Response. Just Pass it........No I don't think it will help
-
The coalition was dead the moment the LPC backed Dion to lead it. Had the LPC chosen anyone but Dion, the coalition might not only be alive and well, Iggy might well have used it as his opportunity for LPC government. But with the coalition tainted by Dions incompetence, there was little for Iggy to do except, politely step aside and keep it in his back pocket for leverage. Now, if the coalition is "done", and the NDP distance themselves from the LPC, and choose not to backup Iggy, then Iggy is back where he started and with a very poor Conservative Budget to share. Having met Iggy once, it was all it took to discover he was just another disconnected Egghead. He made some naive comments and then disappeared. The LPC are doing a decent job of creating a leader image before the CPC create one for them. But he isn't alot better then Harper. But that may be all it takes.

My Man Michael not Taking this Lightly

I like the rest of your comments....but I singled out this piece. It is an accurate portrayal of how rapidly the dominoes are tipping. However, there is nothing in the budget that is going to change the direction of profitable companies from leaving. They are not going broke, or bankrupt, they are leaving. Thus plant closures are being mistaken for a bankrupt operation. However, there are many many suppliers who are affected by these larger companies leaving for greener pastures and they do risk bankruptcy. On the other front, those companies that are heading towards insolvency may have no reprieve. Those companies not making a profit are not going to benefit from a tax break. I do not like this budget because it takes alot of money and does very little with it. It feels like a compromise budget, partially sound in intent but using poor tools to achieve the intended goal. In the end the taxpayer is going to be holding the bag and no further off in 6 months or 1 year. However, I understand your thoughts, of lets get on with it....
