  1. Useless site, poor grammer, wrong, very wrong........ sounds perfect to me. In the meantime, I still have a very bitter nephew who enjoyed paying $650/ year in the US, only to come here and find out he had to pay $3500 for the same vehicle. And that was just one vehicle, it only got worse. I have never been comfortable with auto insurance formulas. But then I also discovered I suck at debating Guyser when it comes to insurance.
  2. Well, if its any consolation. I have been accused as an Ignatief cheerleader on babble. I have been told that I love Ignatief and that I must think he is the greatest thing in the world. Charming isn't it. However, I leave it to Progressive Tory to discuss "Le Charmer".
  3. Look at the thread title !!! Should Galloway be allowed into Canada or NOT? Is your tactic is to hijack threads?.
  4. It was you who brought the Federal GPC into the discussion of PR. Someone then talked about radical rightwingers holding the balance of power, just like others have brought far left groups into the discussion. Mr. McHale campaigns are grounded upon Racism and Inequality. I brought forth an independant candidate who didn't win, but did exceed a party you are familiar with. He received 10% of the vote. What you have suggested is that this person would have a better chance at getting elected under a PR system. This scares the hell out of me.
  5. I heard that George Galloway isn't being allowed into Canada. Talk about thread drift.

  7. In Conservative Riding of Haldimand Norfolk.... Independant Gary McHale received more votes then the Green Party by almost 2.5 to 1. Will the people that supported Gary McHale be represented in a PR system? Will there vote be wasted? Party Candidate Votes % ±% Conservative Diane Finley 19,657 40.83% -7.47% Liberal Eric Hoskins 15,577 32.35% -1.95% New Democrat Ian Nichols 5,549 11.53% -1.27% Independent Gary McHale 4,821 10.01% +10.01% Green Stephana Johnston 2,041 4.24 +0.74% Christian Heritage Steven Elgersma 501 1.0% 0.0% Total valid votes 48,146 Gary McHale received 10% of the vote, and qualified for a return on election expenses etc. Gary McHale will not receive the same Public Funding as the Green Party Candidate who finished below him.
  8. I believe that those 900,000 are represented to the degree that they have support. Getting 2,000 votes in a riding or 800 votes isn't going to change the face of politics. Its just not going to happen. Then you concur. Oh come on, an independant can get elected, at that is one hell of a more difficult battle then one orchestrated by the GP or any other Political Party. If the GPC ran a candidate worthy of getting a minority of the vote, they would have at least ONE seat. An argument for PR on the basis of the GPCs needs vs that publics needs is distasteful. If you cannot get ONE member elected in 308 ridings, there is a problem and it isn't democracy. There are many many reasons why a candidate gets elected. And alot of that is strong local community work. Not just flying a flag with a paper candidate. I vote in every election, municipal, Provincial, Federal. Often my candidate of choice is NOT elected. My vote has NEVER been wasted. I am waiting for more people to back the candidate or party that I am supporting. If you work hard, it will happen, without trying to Jerry rig the system on the needs of a political party. The people who don't vote are represented. Everyone is represented. You just may not like the choice made by the other voters in your riding. It is a different form of electing officials. Some argue it is more democratic, some suggest it is more representative. What is certain is that everyone has the ability to participate in democracy today and are not denied the right to vote. The Federal Green Party in BC finished at 9.4% in BC, the highest of any province. They are currently polling in at 16% Provincially. There is a change in the public mindset when you crest double digits. Regardless, this is discussion appears to be about changing a system for the needs of the Green Party. Its not rediculous, but it does get the losers ticked off because the winner never has a majority. Actually the GP don't deserve that funding. However all parties want their entitlements to the public purse. If the Natural Law Party had maintained their status and then ran candidates in all ridings, and maintained a prescence after 1993, I wouldn't be surprised to see them receiving government funding and yogic flyers everywhere. Sorry, I don't believe that the public purse should fund political parties. They all take advantage of it and it is wrong. If we went to a PR system, there is even more reason to get rid of the Public Funding. It is a change in representation. Many people don't believe that the FPTP is all bad. People have lived with the results of a FPTP and will in the future. Just as people would live adapt and become apathetic to a different PR system. Its dead in Ontario. BC is the best chance and even with all the worry and skepticism, I would rather see it tried in a PRovince before considering it on the Federal Scene. I really am sick of political parties or party activists trying to push PR just because they will benefit. It appears so opportunistic, it makes people not want to vote
  9. That about 3,000 votes per riding. That sucks! It isn't deserving of anything, anytime. I think the fact that Elizabeth May receiving a pathetic 12,000 votes, while the LPC choose not to run a candidate is a sign that the GPC are not ready to hold a seat in office. They were not competitive in some 303 ridings. The GPC run paper candidates to collect their $1.95/vote. I would suggest the GPC run good candidates, and realize that they are competing against strong candidates in ridings across this country. It's difficult to make a case for the Green Party. However, for the voters, it is never a waste. It is never a waste regardless of whom they voted for. Votes are never wasted. People who say votes are wasted are are against democracy. My problem with your argument is that you are not making the Provincial case for STV. You need not bridge into Federal politics to make your point. There is a Provincial GP which is probably better then the Elizabeth May Party. The Provincial BCGP are polling quite high. You might wish to make their case. Making a case where I know the only reason the GPC run candidates is to collect government public funding, doesn't sway me over. I am very concerned about some of the problems with STV. However, As BC is the most likely to adopt STV, I think the ROC could benefit from watching STV in action. It will either be great, ok, or suck. Then other Provinces will change or remain status quo based on the BC experience.

  11. Parlimentis where the rogues hang out !
  12. This is a policy supported by both the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition in order to combat terrorism.
  13. It's almost a non story here. Maybe it will catch fire, but it is likely to become as forgotten as John Tory.
  14. THE RESULTS I find a couple things interesting. That only a few thousand bother to vote, or the number of people in a riding is very very small, compared to Ontario. Roughly 30,000 turned out for the Ontario By Election. In Elmwood, the size of the opposition vote is almost evenly split. In the Pas, it looks like a Native background/understanding is required to win the seat. All in All a free pass for the government. Not the surprise By election result we had in Ontario. Few people would have predicted John Tory losing a safe seat that had a 60% plus vote for the PCs before he lost it. Blaikie was the only candidate I have any knowledge of, and that is because of his length of service at the Federal Level. Even then, don't know much about him, other then he ran for the leadership of the Federal NDP.
  15. North Korea? IIRC North Koreans can't grow grass, but they can make a good missile. That explains why you speak like "Fearless Leader" North Korea it is
  16. Go digging on the Tom Green Site. He dished out a big can of whoop ass to Red Eye. He was deadly serious, very angry, and there was still a trickle of humour.... roughly quoted. "Red Eye sucks, it has shitty guests, like me, and I will never go back on that show again". http://www.tomgreen.com/
  17. I don't think Size is a factor in whether people can sit close to Harper.
  18. He is your everyday politician doing what politicians do best. And lets see, people are looking at nefarious middle eastern activities for the source of his wealth. Thats a waste of time and resources. Look at any Canadian Politician and find the source of their wealth. Look at any British Politician and find the source of their wealth. Galloway has a big mouth. He does things he believes in, and says things he shouldn't. It doesn't surprise me he would take a palestinian passport (what is that as palestine is not a country?), and say he wouldn't vote for Hamas. That's totally believeable. He'd probably start his own party called Respect, and be assassinated by morning. I am not afraid of Galloway coming here. He didn't get anytime on MLW during his last Canadian appearance. An over the top McCarthy style of government fearmongering is starting to take shape.
  19. That has nothing to do with a "union" it has to do with a thief. Essentially your arguement about "laziness" and "entitlement" spread much further then any "union". I can go into any workplace and hear those analogies and it has SFA with regards to a Union. The company did its job and fired the theif. There is no union contract that permits theft. There are grounds called Duty of Fair Representation, which means if the person wanted to be represented and the Union choose not to, or dropped the greivance because it was a cut and dried act of theft and they would lose in arbritration, the greiver can charge the Union. It happens, and ofcourse the greivor often loses these as unions follow due process. Every company wants to cut at the top. THose people have the most accumulated benefit and in many non union shops it is rare to see someone still around at the 20 year mark. Many companies have a policy not to keep anyone past 15 years.... you can discover the policy by looking around. I have seen many a hardworking creative and contributing employee walked out the door, and it had SFA to do with work ethic. I have seen lazy no good useless employees find a way to stick around in a non union environment. Golfing with the boss is helpful. Being related even better. There is no seniority clause that I am aware of that is based upon senority alone and doesn't recognise skill and ability. Thus when skill and ability are equal, Seniority will prevail. If a company has a lazy employee, they have the means and the power to do something. I have seen many a company that has poor management and fails to act in a non union environment. Why should I expect any different in a Union Environment? Perhaps you miss something.... People in Unions often volunteer their time to work on behalf of alot of their members problems. If someone is that pain in the ass, lazy piece of crap you speak of, there isn't one of these Union officials who want to be barking on behalf of a pointless exercise. My problem with Unions is that they are too disconnected from the new workforce. That after the front line Union volunteers are some higher ups who have no idea how people in non union environments are getting shafted on hours, overtime, and being ripped off of 40% to 50% of their wages and have little hope of every unionizing. My Problem with Rank and file union members is that they have managed to receive certain benefits that many places don't have, and yet, in order to protect their fiefdom, they will sell out new employees or work with the companies to allow Full Time Temps at 50% wages. Obviously this occurs far more in non union shops, where wages are excellent and people want to protect what they have and also agree in the "social committees" that these full time temps are good for everyone. Rank and File Union Workers don't pay attention to their unions. Rank and file workers don't care about the labour market until they find themselves out on their asses. Then they say, wholly shit, what's happening out here? How did the average wage drop $14,000 ? For me, I have watched many a person work like a dog for minimum wage. I have watched people work in many disciplines, some missing some important body parts. As for D Fing??? I have been in the military, there is no union there. Some people are excellent puppy makers. Going up that corporate cherry tree...., many people don't use as much energy as one server in a fast food restaurant. Getting back to Teachers.... They often look for solidarity when the chips are down for them, and look towards private sector unions to back their fight. However, once its over, there is a history for them to go back to the word Association and behave in the same fashion as Police or Firefighters. We are not really unions Teachers are able to mobilize a force capable of electing a Provincial Government. Yes they have been around the block. Davis, to Peterson, to Rae (they didn't go for Harris, but they eventually got Eves out), and now are parked with McGuinty. I don't expect them to move away from the Liberals anytime soon. Like most Ontario Unions they will stick with the Liberals.
  20. The government can say they used the money to pay down the debt. If they didn't give out huge tax breaks to large corps and banks, then they could have used that money to pay down the debt and leave EI alone. Its all the same money pool, but it was an extra tax that was not designed to pay down the debt or give tax breaks to the very companies providing the layoffs of today. The government is in a pickle because they encouraged and believed in the LPC practice to take from EI for their special needs. EI is going to be one of the biggest problems facing the CPC, and could well leave a bad taste in the mouth of the hundreds of thousands who are losing their jobs and discovering that EI has been pilfered. Of course the LPC can pat themselves on the back for the cuts and 48 Billion dollars missing from EI. Expect the LPC to charge forth with Changes to EI...... and campaign on it, because they can see which way the wind is blowing.
  21. Well, you get to call this one. Even though there is a split decision in the polls so far. In Ontario, with the economy tanking, that the Liberals would not be able to take a seat from the Conservatives, let alone defeat their leader. I was curious to see if any economic blowback was affecting the current government in Man. I certainly couldn't see the Icon losing, but I don't know much about Man. Politics.
  22. Don't forget to claim it with the big reno TAX CREDIT I would hate to see you miss out on the Governments recent announcement . Its a wonder that people don't appreciate government bureacrats. Its people like you who support purchasing our flags offshore.
  23. Few people are aware of the LPC propoganda site. LPC circles have known about the potential error that can occur. The .com URL brings a whole new meaning to the term "Liberal". One URL is crude site that has supported the dismantling of womens rights... and the other is a porn site. Ok PT, why would you bring this up??..... It's got too much potential for bad jokes At least the LPC are unlikely to get sued like with the Green Shift.
  24. Galloway has come to Canada and was here as little as 2 years ago. Yes, he got people to overturn cars, set cats on fire, and eat peanut butter sandwiches on public school campuses. And read them in context. Galloway doesn't need any embellishing. Taking his arguments and going over the top does only makes you look desperate. Infact, the Canadian Government looks desperate, if not stupid to the rest of the world that is paying attention to this foolishness. Galloway is controversial, yet he is capable of making his case in public, has yet to be convicted of anything, and has been found innocent, or framed on various occasions. The government has dropped the ball on this.
