  1. Regardless of the economic situation, there is credibility to deliver the message that is at stake. While the fundmentals to suggest that our economy was headed for a tailspin existed prior to the September Election, the Federal Government went on the sale that the fundamentals are good. Our economic meltdown has its own problems and are only exacerbated by the worldwide market meltdown and subprime bs. Our problems were not addressed, thus, they may well be compounding the problems for the current year. I don't buy into the rosy outlook. I see a difficult and long road ahead, and a little more downhill before going uphill. What Flaherty and Harper are doing is trying to fabricate a good economic engine to the world. What is the world going to think when they discover our engine has seized. We are fooling no one in this country, and possibly trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the rest of the G8. I believe Canada is going to receive the biggest shit kicking yet. http://business.theglobeandmail.com/servle...y/Business/home
  2. ROTFLMAO....How do people remember these trivial matters posted on MLW. You're right, it is funny.
  3. Damn it, jdobbin scooped me again....
  4. Some people will say anything to shift the topic off of the minister responsible. Some people want to ignore that employers and employees paid into a system that raised $56 Billion dollars in Surpluses.
  5. Canada's Economy Worse Than Thought, Warns Budget Officer Optimistic Harper sees quick recovery OK, ONE Of these guys is in LA LA LAND!!! Which one is it?
  6. hmm. Employer Services
  7. 129,000 jobs were lost in January. That is usually the month that the numbers pickup after the December layoffs. So.... in the wildest outrageous guestimate ever put forth. I am taking bids on the job lost for Feb. 2009 in Canada. StatsCan released their last results February 6th, 2009.... The February data has to be in by now. But... on a good note Flahertys rose coloured glasses
  8. I will miss you. Does M.Dancer have a good lawyer?
  9. I have been doing some reading and your assessment is similar to the majority of newspaper chains and commentators in Ontario. What I think is possible, is she has some time to put chinks in McGuintys armour. He looked weak in responding to her first question and she looked confident. I don't know what "big labour" initiatives you are talking about... you'd have to explain them to me. (Perhaps it doesn't matter, guess I am the majority) I haven't noticed any "innovation", but there is a vacant lot in the McGuinty government. They don't have any innovation either. Infact, few people know what they are doing, but handing over $150Million to US steel with no strings attached is one thing, but to answer a question that HE IS GOING TO GIVE MORE MONEY to Large Corporations such as GM, without any guarrantees is the thing that Most Ontarians are going to have a shit fit over. How many times can this clown keep opening the till and walk away. No ones been effective in pointing this shit out. Of course I know this from my background, but Joe Public is just now finding out, how much we have been handing over to the Billionaires Boys Club and we are going to keep handing it over as long as they ask. Now, she has gotten that message out, and that is the coffee shop talk in my neck of the woods. In the meantime, until the PCs choose an new leader, they will be virtually silent for the better part of this year. Thus the only one with any potential to demonstrate how ineffectual and rather useless this group of Liberals is , is the NDP and Andrea. Most people like Liberals. It is easy to like Parties that cause no fuss, don't do much, and hand out money with every press conference and photo op. Do I expect major changes from the NDP? Not necessarily, since they are pretty much the way they were in the CCF days.
  10. Pat yourself on the back. 95% of people find their jobs through networking, friends, family and previous job aquaintances. I still expect government to do its job and not come up with feeble excuses.
  11. You were, are don't try to pretend you weren't. You were taking a poke at those people using the service rather then those who are to provide the service.
  12. Yes, and No. Many are not getting cheques of anykind, because they do not qualify. But the JOB BANK has SFA with regards to getting a cheque. That said, it was Dianne Finley who said she wouldn't pay people to stay home. She is making good on her word. 2,100 people in her riding just lost their job and have not been able to apply for 5 days. You have EI offices? It is the keyboard today. However, yes their are EI offices with 2 or 3 people that could try to handle the volume. However, it still is done on computer at EI regardless of whether you have an EI office or not. They may or may not help you with the keystrokes. The EI office can no more provide the Missing JOB BANK then can logging onto Service Canada from your home. Companies cannot post JOBS to a site that is DOWN. People cannot retrieve Resumes or forward from a site that is DOWN. Virtually everything is tied to the server. What is interesting is that these MIA days with Service Canada are a regular feature. It just so happens to be that the servers are now going down when more people need them, as opposed to when fewer people needed them. The people in the EI offices are competent. But what is the point in phoning them.... oh the phone lines had wait times exceeding 4 hours, when they say, "there is nothing we can do, our systems are down, we know about the problem and are working on it. Stop trying to blame the people looking for a job. Finley needs to get her act together, but that won't happen. Someone competent needs to take over. This is going to be one of the most important ministries in the next year or two, and we rely on a party hack who's only talent is warming a seat and chicken nodding in question period.
  13. I understand what you mean. But if the business concept is used, we have a Supply and Demand issue happening. High Demand for Service Canada Services.... and not enough supply of services to meet the increase. This has been a trend for 3 years but it has picked up alot of steam since August 08. If the Federal Government is making budgets and cannot grasp after seeing 120,000 people thrown out of work in January alone, that they have to be ready for the next big waves, then they need to resign whoever is in charge and put someone competent in. This is NOT a surprise to anyone. So.... what would you suggest be done?
  14. It's not just the Job bank its everything EI handles, it is overwhelmed. Finley is not a competent Minister. She is a party hack. It would be better if they put her on the backbench. There are competent people in the current government who actually do try to do a good job and take being in cabinet seriously.
  15. Or John Tory?
  16. There are some quotes in the Dunneville Chronicle from Caledonia Mayor, Toby Barrett regarding the last TRUE meeting. It is not available online without registering, although it is free to do so. Very different perspective from the usual bashing.
  17. Oh, Andrea Horwath Won. As was predicted by the politicaly intune guesses of MLW. Who Cares of course represents the General Public, of which apathy is around 50% so, again hats off to MLW for getting that right. 2nd was Peter Tabuns also as predicted by MLW poll. See 1 vote can make the difference. Don't we seem smart. Seriously, I think, that Andrea Horwath is going to be able to put a few chinks in the Armor of the McGuinty government. She seems incredibly likeable and is very photogenic. Also, it appears that she is incredibly organized and can handle alot of real issues. I would say, from the brief stuff I have seen, she appears far stronger then McGuinty when he first became Liberal Leader. She is heads and tails above Dion when he was chosen as Federal Liberal Leader. And I think that she has more common sense then John Tory had when he was chosen as Progressive Conservative leader. Well, she has a seat, which is more then he ever had. Now that the NDP have chosen their leader, the Progressive Conservatives are next.. oh boy new poll coming in 2weeks when JT steps down. Who will be the next leader of the PCs. The NDP and PCs need to get their acts together in order to challenge the Ontario Liberalsho have had free reign to do or not do as they pleased. Oh yeah, the Ontario Liberals have ONE more seat, thanks to the PC strategy. The next two years, will be interesting for Ontario Politics. I predict that Andrea will put the NDP into the 18 to 20% bracket. I predict that the PCs will be looking for a Hard Right ALteranative compared to the Last two PC Leaders. Ernie Eves and John Tory.
  18. I will hold you to your Promise. If you break your promise, I will call you M.DALTON for a week.
  19. I bumped into Toby Barrett, outside of his riding..... Twice in the last week. Once before the Election and once after. He has wasted no time in Promoting Hudak. Of course I had to wonder if Bill Murdoch had a smile on his face after John Tory Lost.
  20. Not even any noise when JOHN TORY LOST!!! And all those who picked him, must be wondering. How do you lose a riding that previously held 60% of the Conservative Vote 2 short years ago, and lose to the McGuinty Government? That said, the only candidate I know anything about is the one who posted here. I appreciate anyone who runs and we love to hate politicians.
  21. Only, because the link I pulled it from didn't come over, which sometimes happens when I pull links off of MLW as well. Both links came from the same page, but only one worked. I know what he is saying. I am well versed in doublespeak as well as changing opinions. You are welcome for the link.
  22. Opps, wrong quote.... here is the New Micheal Ignatieff 2009. Pick the one that suits you best. Apparently its ok for Ignatieff to use Apartheid to describe Israel, but no one else. Or Ignatieff needs to apologise to Israel for his 2002 comments. He made the same comparision of Israel to South Africa. Link
  23. http://www.lfpress.ca/newsstand/Business/2...172431-sun.html How quickly things change... Within a few weeks of this announcement US STEEL has had to IDLE its' "acquisition". While the Hamilton Operation has been fingered for eventual closure, the highly profitable LEW has caught politicians by surprise. Perhaps the public should be surprised, but not politicians. Unless these politicians have their heads in the sand. Tony Clement was just in Sudbury making a statement how a recent foreign purchase and closure has "caught him by surprise". He uses the same comments in Hamilton. Is this his Industrial Policy? "Caught by Surprise" Get ready for US STEEL to line up at the trough.
