Oh look. Its my favourite civil servant once again out of touch with reality. What a surprise. EI is not a phoney issue, the issue was the LPC phoney posturing towards EI. The NDP have been ahead of the curve on necessary EI reform. Regardless, enjoy your nice secure cozy 9 to 3 public sector union job, while the private sector bleeds 24 hours. Its just a game, right.

YES

You know I was joking.... That the tongue was in cheek.. double check. Actually the poll that is being trotted out the most, is the most out of line with all the other polls. Its whacked. But its great fodder if you are CPC and want to scare off the LPC on a fall election. The Apologist for the CPC in the media who wanted the 08 election, don't look like they want one in 09. This is a bad poll and is the one to be tossed out.

Looks like you missed something along the way.Last November, when the NDP was in the midst of queing up their 60th or so vote of Non Confidence for the Harper Government, a funny thing happened. Harper kicked the Liberals in the nuts, and they turned to the NDP for the pickup. On the way, they found feet below their knees and where a spine was located. They set aside differences with their decades old enemy the BQ (the friends of the CPC), who also wondered why Harper flinging sand their way. And then the revenge of the nerds happened. Yes bully boy Harper took his ball and wouldn't bring it back for a week as he sulked. Then, he ran away to the Governor Generals Apron and crying and balling... "they won't let me be Prime Minister anymore" boo hoo, waaaaahhhh. If nothing else, the Prime Minister behaves like a suck on too many occasions. Realizing his problems, Harper backed off on some of the things most important to Liberals, like womens rights, erm no, sorry, it was public financing, something important to the Liberal Party. And a grand coalition was made, yet nothing was leveraged and the support of the LPC came at no cost to the CPC. Govern as you wish, you are on probation. The LPC then rewarded the CPC in fiscally stupid policies, by supporting them and eliminating rights women fought for 30 years to achieve. THere is a difference between standing up and standing down. THere is a difference between supporting a government and getting something in return, and selling out completely. And yes there is risk, there certainly was risk last November, risk for all the parties involved, but Harper, for a very very very brief time, got the message that he too is vulnerable. So, clearly, when Harper saw that he could lose the Prime Ministership of Canada. He shit his pants. And that was less then a month after returning to Ottawa.

One thing punked appears to understand, is that the LPC are the ones who will sellout for power. And if that means embracing some NDP values, they will do it in order to get support and look good in public.
-
The Liberal Agenda is getting through with the CPC government. Everything the LPC support in confidence is measures that they embrace. This is the party that reduced EI, Took From EI, reduced Transfers, etc, and the party tat supports reducing tax revenues while increasing spending... all while supporting the loss of womens rights and voting for the loss of those rights. While the CPC can make an argument why they do not support pay equity, the LPC also do not support it, but will not dare say it in public.

I disagree. I would have expected Liberal forunes to rise and rise significantly in the face of these economic times, not the least of which followed the fiscal incompetence of the CPC from 2006 to 2008. The NDP or its CCF origins may have been created during a great depression, yet the CCF and NDP tend to do better during better economic times. Obviously that hasn't totally been the case for the Federal NDP in which they were in a painful 6% in the mid 90s vs a modest 13% during the late 90s and early into Laytons era of 15% to 18%. The surprise is that the Liberals should be riding 10 points above the CPC but appear to be either 9 points behind or deadlocked at best during a very bad recession. They are supposed to be the government in waiting, and the natural government and it looks like its going to take something greater then the current crises for the Liberal vision of natural government to run its course.

Are Conservatives kicking people out of the asylum again?

And since you asked.. here is the Crop Poll for Quebec. not going to get your fantasy poll in Quebec either.

Its a Majority, no matter how you slice it. It is Mainstream thinking. We can dispense fuel as required without the influence of global speculators. They price of fuel at $147 was not based upon any market demand, but upon a phoney speculation market that had greedy investors driving up the price of fuel and successfully snuffing out the last embers that were preventing a global meltdown. Good for them, the bunch of crapheads. Removing market fluctations and eliminating the rushing off to greedland by the speculators, actually stabilizes and increases overall economic productivity. Energy efficiency can be legislated, and when it is legislated, it is a superior mechanism then believing in the invisiblee hand of the market. The barrier to Canada nationalizating its oil industry like Denmark, is that the Provinces, enjoy this revenue and it is embedded in the Constitution that these resources fall under their jurisdiction.

The Pictures funny. It must be difficult for Liberals to be voting with the depised Conservatives and to do so for 3 years and heading towards 100 consecutive confidence votes. It is the LPC propping up the CPC and silly pictures don't change that fact. It is Ignatieff and the Liberals who choose to support Harper, and not to work with the NDP or get the BQ off everyones back for 18 months.
-
By your command..... ok, so the doesn't support your Liberal Fantasy Scenario, but it is discussion on polls. It's been a torturous summer for the LPC leader...
-
Whole quote .... well said. Its just that I disagree with your belief that torture works.
-
Here is the meeting of the blue ribbon on you tube. Opps.... that was Pabst Blue Ribbon.
-
There is always one poll that falls within its own probability of error. This one could be it.
-
Really bad people torture. George Bush also said he didn't support torture. But Bush and Ignatief share a position on torture. Torture is defined. Torture, according to the United Nations Convention Against Torture, is: ...any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him, or a third person, information or a confession, punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity. It does not include pain or suffering arising only from, inherent in, or incidental to, lawful sanctions.

I can understand why the over zealous CPC might jump over that last poll and get rooted back to earth, but the poll you cite not only shows a statistical tie between the CPC and LPC but also 2% higher for the malcontent dippers.
-
It is me who gets to scrutinize the leader. You can continue to defend Ignatieffs poor choices.
-
Land Developers are parked on governments steps, lobbies, and hall, and everywhere in between, with their hand out. Alway have and always will be. Billions and Billions for the Corporate Billionaires.
-
Yes he believes in torture, even though he says he is against it, he then creates acceptable levels of torture. Ignatieff was promoting torture during hte Abu Graib fiasco. That is how out to lunch he can be.
-
Like Most Canadians. I did not support the Naked Aggression of the United States towards Iraq. Like most of the World that did not support the Naked Agression of the United States. This is a good reason to keep Ignatieff away from a position of power. He is dangerous.
-
Yes Ignatieff has stated he is against torture but for cohersive interogations and to create a system of torture light that is acceptable. He creates an ambilivant two faced approach in order to appease the Bush/Cheney simplistic view on Terror. Ignatieffs support for pre emptive strikes are downright disturbing. His has few concerns for human life. He is confortable seeing Iraqi kids sacrificed for imposed democracy. Ignatieff is a scarey dude.
-
IIRC, it is people in the mainstream that reject many of your positions. IIRC, it was one of many resolutions, and obviously had no support either heading towards the convention, during the convention or apparently after the convention. Other then some pundits, media, some of us here, there never appeared to be a buzz in NDP circles, or few that can be found. I don't think it is to anyones surprise that the Dems are to the right of Harper and Obama to the Left of Ignatief. You tell em... GO BUSH!!!

I have seen no data that says the recession ended. That sounds about right.
