We pay while Indians live in luxury
Posit replied to geoffrey's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
We already do. Our collective rights to the lands north of the border were defined under the Jay Treaty (Treaty of Amity, Commerce and Navigation, between His Britannic Majesty and the United States of America, by their President, Ratified June 24, 1795). That same treaty recognizes the sovereignty of natives and their collective right to cross the border unmolested. -

Posit replied to geoffrey's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Aboriginal and Treaty rights are neither DNA based or race based. They are "collective rights". The Ontario and Canadian border with the US runs down the middle of the St Lawrence, Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. We have a right to those waters as a "collective" right of all Ontarians and on behalf of all Canadians. That collective right is passed down through successive generations of Ontarians and Canadians. That is exactly the same things as aboriginal and treaty rights. -
Man kills himself over Council vote

In Ontario municipalities must provide an Official Plan which identifies long term (25 year period usually) where growth can occur and where commercial growth can expand to. All Zoning By-laws must conform to the Official Plan. While an Official Plan might identify neighbourhoods and districts, the Zoning By-laws describe specific plots of land based in a reasonable commercial, industrial or residential use, or for open space or agricultural use. They are not taken lightly and when someone applies for a rezoning, there must be sound and reasonable planning reasons to allow an amendment to the zoning. If the zoning is prohibited under the Official Plan it must be denied unless an amendment has been made to the Official Plan (this is a much more difficult, costly and time-consuming process). If the proposed zoning would create an undesirable condition, such as increased traffic, increased pollution or noise, then it would not likely to succeed. Very rarely would a council take emotional arguments or complaints about the applicants seriously and all rezoning must meet certain tests of eligibility to be approved. The point is that simply applying for a rezoning does not make it right and if the application was turned down it would likely have been denied on the basis of planning principles alone. There is nothing sinister or underhanded about it. It is just the laws of the municipality. People who start up businesses in their homes are not exempted from having to comply regardless if the costs of moving, ruin the business. If the margins on a small business are that low, then the business was not successful at all. -
John Tory did the WRONG thing, obviously. He is losing an election over his opinion of faith based schools which the majority of the electorate disagree with. John Tory is a has-been even before he ever was.

PROVE IT! Provide a link that shows that this is in the rule book......Or are you just trying to make up the rules as you go along? The point is, if you are going to participate in a discussion on a current event, you had better keep up with the news YOURSELF. No one needs to spoon feed the forum unless you are saying you are a baby and can't speak for yourself.

Should Mohawk Warriors Be Accorded Respect
Posit replied to AngusThermopyle's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
West Coast Warrior Society? You have a problem with geography. The Mohawk Warrior Society, are not the ones manning the front lines of Caledonia or Tyendinaga. They are Rotiskenhrekehte, not Warrior Society members. Maybe you should invest in a map. You don't seem to understand that native people in BC are not the same as Six Nations. -
It would be even more distressing for 3 men to leave one alone with 3 boys unless they thought he had the upper hand.

The 80,000 pages of documentation the government presented to Six Nations last spring contain the proof of the fraudulent sales. Perhaps the Canadian negotiators should read what they provide before they give it away. The only thing Canada has proved is that the Ministry of Justice doesn't know what they are talking about. -

They do. They comply with the Great Law. Maybe Canada should comply with its own laws to avoid conflicts. -

Umm....the treaties end with a note that the agreements will "run as long as the sun shall shine, as long as the grass grows green at certain times of the year, and as long as the rivers flow". The treaties, the Royal Proclamation and aboriginal right is alive and valid today. Get a real job you bum. I know you are limited to certain jobs because of an intellectual anomoly, but certain working at a McJob is really nothing to be proud of. -
The jury is out as to whether Joe was there or not. The media at first implied he wasn't there and then at one point he acknowledges that he and his two nephews went outside to see if they could find some 2x4s. That would seem to imply he was there. And it would also imply that at one point they felt confident enough that Sam had things under control even though they went into the house to confront the boys. When they returned he was lying unconscious on the floor and the boys were running out the back door. No one but the boys saw the attack and only they know who (which of the three boys) hit him. However Joe's first statement to the media was that Sam was attacked by 15 warriors. 3 boys are a far cry from 15 warriors, you think? The four went into the home and Gualtieri ordered the protesters out. Davies says he didn't see who threw the first punch, but described Gualtieri struggling with one person while the others squared off. The 33-year-old said he and a cousin left the house to grab two-by-fours and started back in to discover Gualtieri lying on the floor as he was struck with a piece of wood. Davies said he screamed to natives outside the house for help and the attackers fled. Using my math skills it was 4 men on 3 boys confrontation. Either way machismo got in the way and Sam ended up paying the price. "Machismo" BTW is not a word from the Iroquoian languages.

Should Mohawk Warriors Be Accorded Respect

THEY don't call themselves "warriors". That's what we and the media call them. However they refer to themselves a Rotiskenhrekehte, explained earlier. And the people that make up the Rotiskenhrekehte are ordinary men and women who have risen up in their communities to defend their nations. As to your other stupid statements, they are not worth my time responding to. You truly have an igno"runt" mentality. That wasn't a spelling error it was a descriptive word play that every one buyt you seemed to get. -
There is no misrepresentation. The Church is corrupt and the only thing it teaches is corruption. There is no such thing as evil or sin. Your rant has not value of anything but just another of your ignorant rant. True faith comes only from reading the Gospel, not rituals, ceremonies, observing holidays or going to church on Sunday. Faith without "works" is dead. If you are a true Christian, then show us all your miracles. Show the works by which you have made your faith manifest.
-
I AM a believer in the teachings of Christ. And my beliefs go way beyond the power and control of the Church. In fact it was Jesus belief that the Church was corrupt and yet by calling yourself a Christian you admit your adherence to the Church's doctrines. It was also the teaching of Christ to not accept what one believes as evidence of their place in life. I AM also a Biblical scholar and have put many of Christ's teaching into effect in my life. So if you are truly of the Christ then show me your works. Where are your miracles? For faith without works is dead.

Wrong. "For with what judgment ye judge..." What basis you use to judge someone... "....ye shall be judged...." ...you are being judged by your own judgment... "...and with what measure ye mete....." ...and with the severity you condemn.... "....it shall be measured to you again." You shall be condemned back by your own words. The minute you condemn a Brother for his mistake you have condemn yourself as being unworthy of God's Love. Repentance is for you, not for those you judge and condemn. You have absolutely no right to punish "anyone" since you, yourself have fallen short of morality, remember?
-
There ARE morals but they are not based on sin. And morals are personal guidelines that we are to use for ourselves. We have no business imposing them on others. Matthew 7:1-5 Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
-
The confusion lies only in what Joe Gualtieri told the media what the "15 men" beat Sam Gualtieri with. First he said it was a 2x4, then a baseball bat, then an oak picket. Yet the 15 year old claimed that Sam had him pinned up against the wall with the oak picket pushing across his neck. Only Joe's story has changed. The boys and the other witnesses have remained consistent.

Should Mohawk Warriors Be Accorded Respect
Posit replied to AngusThermopyle's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Iroquoian languages are verb-based while ours is noun-based. Their verbs are modified by adding prefixes and suffices to modify "who" is doing "what" action. Despite your ignorance telling you so, there are few direct translations between English and any Iroquoian languages. That creates a huge problem when trying to communicate, if if both sides are talking about the same things. The fact of the matter is that Indians of all "nations" engaged in war, they engaged in activities that we would consider to be murder, kidnap, and grand theft auto (horse stealing) as part of their "culture". You really are an laughable ignorunt with this one. -
A poor starving man steals a loaf of bread from a rich baker who has a hundred loaves but refuses to share. Who is the sinner? Is it a sin to steal? Or should he that refuses to share what he has be also condemned as a sinner? They are the same and neither are sinners but partners in a dance - a lesson - where both receive something they are missing. You cannot have a crime if the baker freely gave of his loaves, nor would you have a sin if the poor man offered to work off the cost of one loaf. The only error would be in your judgment of either one. That isn't a sin but a mistake, that can be corrected. However, if you want to consider yourself a sinner then you may not also be a non-sinner. You judgment then gets tainted with your own prejudices and you no longer - on any matter - consider yourself to be taking the higher moral ground. Would you kill to protect a child, or a sibling, or a parent?
-
Judging someone as a sinner, or not is a way to compare your morality to what you "believe" you see. In essence you are judging yourself "Judge not lest ye be judged....."

They already have your paycheck and offer you an allowance. Any business is required to deduct taxes, EI premiums and Canada Pension BEFORE you receive your money. Essentially the employer is paying the government and the government tells them (by way of income tax brackets) how much to release to you. -
