way to cut healthcare costs
Posit replied to FascistLibertarian's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There is no a problem with health care costs in Canada. The problem is with health care spending. There is too little and often ineffective. -
What must we do to protect our White culture?

I've not tried to shut you up. Rather your "bigotry" IS an opinion...just a rather ignorant and uneducated one..... -
What must we do to protect our White culture?
Posit replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
So we're back on the track that "white" culture is really "Anglo Saxon protestant" culture...right? I'll repeat just for you....there is NO such thing as "Canadian culture". Your idea that it somehow stems from English blue blood is as obtuse as Quebequois believing there is such a thing as pur laine. In order for a particular people to express a culture it must be accompanied by cultural icons and traditions. Canada has none of these and I challenge anyone to present any that haven't originated in another culture. If we are talking about English culture that is one thing but Canadian culture is not English culture and certainly no where near anything resembling a "white" culture. IF you agree that Canada is multicultural (and denounce the concept that it is exclusively white or "English") then you might have a chance at making an argument outside of the framed bigotry and racism presented thus far. Then we can also include hundreds of icons and traditions that together form Canada as a cultural nation. The fact is there is no exclusive culture that defines Canada. It just doesn't exist. -

There's no such thing as "Canadian" culture. (except perhaps some tokens borrowed from immigrants). It is a myth. Its already here. You exemplify what you fear. And while you may attempt to provide a rational argument to racism and bigotry, no matter....it is still racism and bigotry. When you can truly acknowledge that then the fear of fascism will have reversed its course. -
"There is NO such thing as different races, there is no such thing as different races." Race may be recognized. There are many different features that might be common to a specific ancestral area. However, race neither defines culture or nationality. To assume that Canada is a "white" society is the most inane concept put forth on this board yet. What is even more stupid is that many think that it was the "white" race that both populated and built Canada as a country. Absolutely wrong. First of all the shiny whites from British decent (because that is who we are really talking about) are foreigners here, historically. From a cultural and racial perspective the whites are late immigrants. And without the help of indigenous peoples it is highly unlikely that their flee from an oppressive monarchy would have been successful. As far as building Canada and making it what it is today, it took the hard work of hundreds of different ethnic cultures from around the world. They built roads, railroads, sewers, buildings and even the metal tools to build things with. They organized towns and companies that housed and employed more recent immigrants. White racists and bigots like those that keep this thread going in the wrong direction like to align themselves with the elite white aristocracy that are esteemed in historical texts. However, the majority of them descend from the limys and beggars that came here looking for opportunity and ended up working in coal mines or for some tyrant master in mills and timber works. They are descendants of criminals and anti-politicos that took up arms against their neighbours here and some even sided with the US in their attempts to overthrow British rule here. Your history isn't rosy and without various ethnic immigration that happened along side the limys and Cockneys it would be unlikely any of you would be living as well as you do. The "whites" are nothing more than a handful of supremacists seeking advantage over ordinary Canadians. They are not interested in "rule of law" nor equality because they believe that by suppressing one part of Canada they can gain an advantage over them. It is perverse, obtuse and limited simplistic thinking, that shows just how inferior intellectually, and culturally they are to the rest of us.

I'm wondering if leafless wouldn't mind if we refined our discussion about White Culture to mean only those people with white skin, blue eyes and blond hair? -

So...I guess that white people can't have Christianity as part of their culture, right? You might recall that Jesus was a brown fella. -

The only difference between what Leafless is saying and what Hitler promoted is about 70 years. Times have changed for sure but unfortunately recessive hate genes get passed through generations like a hereditary disease. Leafless is bigot - much worse than a racist IMO, since a bigot acknowledges his prejudice and continues to hate people anyway. And there is nothing worthwhile in a thread that starts off with promoting white sheet thinking. -

I suppose there is nothing wrong with it if you also believe that Hitler was right about the Jews..... Your bigotry is pathetic. What is worse that some of the morons around here share the same view. -
The Taliban and anyone else that is anti-American in the middle-east represent an obstacle to American / western interests in the entire region. The Americans see the Middle East and need the Middle East to expand their market for the over-production of domestically produced goods and services. While they have found some comfort in dating the Saudis the risk to Americans and their companies is ever present. The American economy depends on ever-expanding commercial production of goods and services in order to keep share-holders in the profit range. By drawing the fights away from the Arab states they keep an open door to commerce. Plus since there is an abundance of wealth in this region the constant threat at their door step keeps American arms sales at their peak in the region.

No. The point is that there is plenty of proof for the existence of God, but many choose not to see it as Divine. It is poor science when one goes out to prove a conclusion already determined. Rather, science would open the door to a possibility of the Divine as one of the explanations unexplained events rather than concluding its impossibility.
-
It is not productive in science to define something by what it isn't. However, it is the only practical way to define something as its antithesis in order to argue that delusion is somehow real.

Being "free will" your illusion in death is complete and fulfilling. Believe in death and it becomes you. Believe in life and that is all you will experience. You see you cannot half believe in anything and expect different results. "Energy cannot be created nor destroyed." ...a scientific premise....What is life if not our souls filled with energy and although our thoughts are without a body, can our thoughts be equally without a further thought? We are but ideas of ourselves and our experiences. And what is God but an Idea of Him/Herself?
-
There is no death. It is an illusion. By all experiences all there is, is life. That which we believe is dead appears to be without life, yet it lives on....if only in the gut of a blow fly....
-
Rather we have evolved not to try to intellectualize these experiences. And yet, with free will, "the experiences of death, suffering and torture people all over this planet face everyday. are experiences some get to choose. If death is not the finality of life, then what do pain, and death really matter?
-
While the forest, the sun and the rain all have scientific explanations, the experience of them do not. You missed the point entirely.
-
A world where a rock is your home and there are always plenty of grub IS the better world. All needs fulfilled.... Just because you haven't experienced it doesn't mean it doesn't have merit. I would also suggest that only the west is so obsessed with the economic world. To many finding a place rich in grubs is heaven. The proof of God isn't in the thought or the belief, but in the experience. There are many who believe in many things but have never experienced them. People hold a firm belief in death but can't say they have fully experienced death. Although there are some who have had near-death experiences and many will tell you that they experienced God...... For anyone who has experienced an aspirating forest, a warm sun on a cold morning, or the smell of grass after a spring rain there must be a higher power. In all the things we have made as human beings there is no experience that can ever come close to such awe.

Nope, I read lots. Those other guys were a different kettle of fish. Harper is near-fascist in his approach to running the government and he is acting like a little Napoleon, just like John A. McDonald did. Maybe you should start with the basic history of politics series....
-
Actually he has changed it for the worse. His near fascist dictator approach to controlling his caucus hasn't been seen since John A. McDonald.

Wrong again. CP announced that they symbolically shut down the rails across Canada for one minute in support of aboriginal lands claims. Toronto ferry to Toronto Island shut down for an hour on their own accord, also in support of the Mississauga Toronto Claim. You are right about it being a business decision since most of CN rails travel on First nations territory. They could be considered an easy target. The OPP also shut down the 401 for 30 kms. There was no 401 occupation by protesters. Just an indication that the 401 was one of the transportation routes considered by protesters. Keep up with the news will you...instead of relying upon that narrow pointed view at the top of your head...
-
Nope it isn't. No highway was obstructed, nor were the rails obstructed. Both require a physical presence to be considered obstruction. It would even be questionable if this would constitute "mischief" under the law.
-
He never threatened anyone. In response to a reporter's question if they had guns, he stated: "We've indicated that we are not going to have firearms on the front line but we certainly have ample resources available if the situation should arise". That is not threatening. Perhaps a warning that if lethal force was going to be used by the OPP they would defend themselves. They didn't "obstruct the railway. Both CN and CP took their trains off the lines just in case if might be blocked. Once that happened they parked the bus across the tracks but that was hours have CN and CP announced they had stopped the trains. Brant won't be going to jail for anytime. The bal restrictions were based on a charge stemming from the blocakade of the tracks in April. The OPP made a deal with him that they would not charge anyone if the barricades came down. The agreement was reached and after a week Fantino order the Napanee detachment to charge him. The bail judge had a stern warning for the OPP at Brant's bail hearing which indicated they could not uphold charges when a deal was struck. Once the charges are dropped or he is acquitted the bail conditions will go with it. Did you notice that the only charge the OPP could muster against him was for "mischief"? That is a vague charge that is only used by the police where no law was broken but where they think someone might be instigating something. The history of the Crown is that either the charges get dropped or if convicted the sentence amounts to time at community service. There were no laws broken today andthe event was as peaceful as could be - active but peaceful. Get over it.
-
"Do you not consider taking over private property with physical force and weapons terrorism?" No one occupied "private" property with physical force and weapons. That's another delusion you keep reinforcing in your own mind. The road is a county road and they had as much right to be on it as the OPP. As well there was no physical force used to drive a bus there, nor were weapons ever involved. If you go back and read the quote, Brant told the media there would be no weapons on the front line. Do yourself and us a favour. Dispatch with your propaganda and trying getting to the truth once and a while.

Fortunately, Fontaine simply does not have the chops to control an increasing large and vocal minority of First Nations people. he is permanently yesterdays 'leader'. Burn, baby, burn. Fontaine is not a democratically elected leader. He is a government puppet with less support in the aboriginal communities than Harper's minority government. Brant is a community appointed spokesperson according to traditional law. He has over 85% of the community's support. Only 30% of eligible voters voted in the band council elections. Of that just slightly more than half voted for the Chief. This is a priceless lie. I like how you make up the news to suit your bigoted POV: "1. It is NOT their democratic right to blockade private property (Rail Lines) 2. It is NOT their democratic right to express militant will of force against the police 3. It is NOT their democratic right hinder the rights and freedom of movement of other citizens as they have done." 1. They did not blockade the rail lines. CN & CP voluntarily shut down service. All they did was caused the rail gates to come down at the crossing. 2. No one expressed a militant show of force against anyone. Brant answer a reporter's question about guns being at the quarry. His response was: "We've indicated that we are not going to have firearms on the front line but we certainly have ample resources available if the situation should arise." 3. The protesters only blocked a County Road that passes through disputed territory. There is no law broken or right infringed by such an action. If there was then the police would have to arrest city workers every day. The news reports that say the protesters block the 401 are false. The 401 was blocked by the provincial police. It is everyone's democratic right and responsibility to respond to injustices in society. Notwithstanding that they do not consider themselves to be Canadian, they have every right to protest, stand on and close roads upon lands that have never been ceded to the Crown. Furthermore it is the responsibility of Canada to prove that they have a claim at all to any of First Nations lands and resources in accordance with the Royal Proclamation.

Given that armies prepare for war during peace times, it is apparent that one cannot maintain a top-notch armed forces without exercising it in real battle. Wars are equally necessary to the arms makers, trainers and suppliers to the armed forces. War is about keeping the economy going, not about liberating oppressed peoples. Give me the money that has been spent in war and I will clothe every man, woman, and child in an attire of which kings and queens will be proud. I will build a schoolhouse in every valley over the whole earth. I will crown every hillside with a place of worship consecrated to peace. ~Charles Sumner The direct use of force is such a poor solution to any problem, it is generally employed only by small children and large nations. ~David Friedman War will exist until that distant day when the conscientious objector enjoys the same reputation and prestige that the warrior does today. ~John F. Kennedy Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime. ~Ernest Hemingway War would end if the dead could return. ~Stanley Baldwin In war, truth is the first casualty. ~Aeschylus You cannot simultaneously prevent and prepare for war at the same time. ~Albert Einstein War is only a cowardly escape from the problems of peace. ~Thomas Mann
