  1. It has some thing to do with it, but obviously not all, sometimes a leader can't do a whole lot against global problems, but we did come through better than most, and still are. Of course, the study coming from Canadian Auto Workers Union is pretty rich considering they have allready partaken of gov't largesse and are still whining.
  2. No charges have been laid, there is no evidence of any evidence besides I don't think signing a phony name to an online petition is a crime or worth the time of police - just imagine all the charges that could be laid on all those false names on all those other on line petitions LOL Not to mention the real 'hate monger' in all of this was Avaaz.
  3. There was no investigation, the RCMP declined to investigate, just huffing and puffing by Avaaz. I agree that on line petitions are generally not valid.
  4. Well, of course, the Union study was non biased and quite right doncha know LOL Canada is doing a whole lot better than some people like to admit.
  5. How about that, Canucks are better at some things, way to go Canada, good leadership, good government - Go Tories http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/jan/4/go-north-young-man-go-north/ cont.... and earlier http://business.financialpost.com/2010/07/12/a-few-reasons-why-canadas-economy-is-better-than-the-u-s-economy/ http://articles.latimes.com/2010/jul/11/business/la-fi-econ-canada-20100711 Canada's economy can teach the U.S. a thing or two The United States will probably take years to recover from the global recession and credit crunch, economists say, but its northern neighbor is back in fine shape.
  6. A bunch of birds died in Sweden too, they think it was firecrackers - damn and here I thought Bush did it. LOL
  7. I agree that we need another moderator, the insults etc. are becoming more frequent, at one time this was a great place with very few insults and personal attacks. The moderator would have to be completely unbiased of course.
  8. Maybe if they can get a more moderate group of leaders they will have a chance at peace. it'll never happen as long as they threaten to obliterate Israel. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/africa-mideast/gazans-losing-enthusiasm-for-hamas/article1838117/
  9. Happy new year to all, if the weather is any indication of what's to come it's going to get colder... bring on some global warming cheers
  10. No, we won't
  11. But that could result in genocide of one side, especially if no oil sharing revenue agreement is made - and back to the stone age of hard line Sharia law for the North if the south cecedes.
  12. IMO there is no longer any 'systemic discrimination', attitudes have changed, this is not to say that racism has been completely obliterated, it hasn't, but there is no excuse for legalized discrimination (as in our constitution). We have laws in place to address such things, there is no longer any need for race based remedies based on past discrimination or to redress historical wrongs. We all abhor racial discrimination but affirmative action is the means to give preferential treatment to minorities. Looking at universities and business these days the balance has changed, now there are more problems as a result. e.g. not enough males in university, Asian students sometimes can't get in because their 'quota' has been filled. Heck, AA doesn't level the playing field, it completely skews the field, as in: Read more: http://www.nationalpost.com/todays-paper/Blind+success/3880975/story.html#ixzz19hFkzjPL
  13. say what ? Not much gender bias in qualifications or education,at least IMO, although education degrees are not always equal depending on where attained. Once qualifications, experience merit education etc. are all considered, leaving some equal in all things, then that is where the decision would have to subjective. The person hiring would have to decide who to take which is where the decision could be based on race, ethnicity or gender. Nothing is perfect, if a quota system or affirmative action is to be used then it's a given that some better qualified applicants will be passed over.
  14. You're welcome - thought I'd put this here - really how do we accomplish this making sure that the merit and qualifications are first. http://www.ottawasun.com/news/canada/2010/12/29/16700671.html cont...
  15. Have to admit that I too wasn't up on this until recently, China is bidding on the pipeline now and it sure looks as if there will be a war. Watch for pipeline bombings etc. etc. http://opinion.financialpost.com/2010/12/29/lawrence-solomon-to-islams-dismay-a-new-oil-nation-is-born/ Are they on the brink of genocide ?
  16. What's David Orchard up to these days ?
  17. A friend in need, is a friend indeed LOL booga booga
  18. That's fine, it's a good discussion. I agree we should be entitled to make those decisions, but as I've stated, looking at what is happening in the Netherlands and Belgium for instance, I have concerns about the 'slippery slope'
  19. The point was that there were and are problems, 11.3% of the total number of the 14,691 deaths in the country in the Netherlands are cases of involuntary euthanasia in which people were killed against their will. Euthanasia is about making it legal for doctors to help people to die, which includes withdrawal of care and cessation of treatment, which is fine for mentally capable, consenting adults. Withdrawal of care for whatever reason can lead to involuntary deaths. The slippery slope premise is supported by what is happening in the Netherlands where it is now permitted to euthanize not only the competent terminally ill, but also for infants with serious handicaps, comatose patients, and even people suffering from severe depression. http://www.life.org.nz/euthanasia/euthanasiaethicalkeyissues/non-terminal-cases/ We have to be be very careful about end of life options and make sure that we are not pressuring people to discontinue treatment and that we don't allow the laws to widen those options.
  20. It shouldn't, but it's getting an adverse reaction from Muslims, so far no riots that I know of. Hopefully there won't be a backlash against the U.K. and more attempted bombings. Denmark and Sweden have just arrested 5 suspects in planned terror attack against a newspaper ( cartoons again)
  21. The question is, what does this have to do with conservatives and Tory Staffor
  22. It's apprapo for us these days as there has been talk about a deficit of democracy because there aren't enough female politicians. I don't see quotas or affirmative action as democratic, if it means they are appointed (by whom) as a means to fill a quota. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/time-to-lead/women-in-power/part-5-women-half-the-population-a-fifth-the-seats-in-parliament/article1754326/
  23. Yup, Paul Martin killed his wife - oh sure... I can't figure out what it had to do with a Tory staffer, unless it's someone called Tory Staffor. scratching my head over this one.
  24. I didn't see that one, but did see the one where they rented a small trailer, eventually setting it on fire LOL
