  1. I don't really get the point of this poll, all it does is show that Figleaf hates people who disagree with him, which isn't much of a surprise to anybody else. I'm fairly disgusted at the current state of Canadian democracy, more or less because the two major parties are in essence similar with regards to policy, and both usually resort to childish name calling and partisan squabbles. Meanwhile the Greens are completely out of it with regards to policy, and the party is more of a flavour of the month. However in saying that I think we need to change our current electoral system so that more parties can be put in check, as well it seems that with a minority government the government works much better because they actually need to be able to sell their policies to the people as well as the other parties in parliament. I'm surprised nobody has talked about how the Tories were taken over by the Alliance, especially considering that 92% of the PC membership was in favor of the merger.
  2. I wouldn't put to much faith in the polls at the moment. I think most Canadian's would rather not have an election, and I agree with them their is no need for one. Even if we were to have an election I'd imagine it would be most likely a repeat of the last one. As well for some reason I have a feeling Harper will be similar to Pearson in terms of electoral success.
  3. I respect Harper alot more because he is willing to stick to his guns despite the pressure that has been put on him to change course on Afghanistan. It's no surprise that we have casualties in Afghanistan, Canadian's were warned about the result of our move to south and simply ignored it. I also have alot of respect for Jack Layton because he has stuck to what he believes is best for Canada, and is also sticking to his guns so to speak. The same can be said of Paul Martin, either way it's fairly easy to pin the "American" label on any politician. To say that this is "Harpers war" is ridiculous, especially since Harper is only following through with what the previous government had done in Afghanistan.
  4. http://www.canada.com/topics/news/politics...44f1c2b&k=29309 The result, Canadian's are fine with our current minority government. I've actually been impressed with Stephen Harper thus far, and he has at the very least attempted to run a middle of the road government.
  5. We are already doing that, unfortunately people back here at home fail to see that throwing candy at people who would like nothing more than to see our soldiers dead isn't going to work. I'm no Harperite, and I remember being told in the fall of 2005 in St Jean that we would be involved in a ground war with mounting casaulties. But then again maybe people in the military have no clue whats going on. As for changing it to a military agenda, when was it not a military agenda, last time I checked we had military people there. The Liberal's knew exactly what was going to happen, same with CDS Hillier who was warning Canadian's of mounting casaulties in the month's to come. Unfortunately, I think that the facts are gonna get in the way of your irrational hatred of Harper. If the opposition feels so strongly about it they should bring in a non-confidence motion. By the way, get over your hatred of Stephen Harper, the political hackery is getting to be a bit much.
  6. I knew Cpl McCully personally from Kingston since he was my det commander, he loved his job, he was a great person, a great soldier, and it's truly unfortunate that we lost another great member. If people still think we are nothing more than UN peacekeepers they've been out to lunch for quite a while.
  7. No, more or less they want to stone gays. So schools with a religious bent are better then. Man, why do these christian fascists continue to attempt to shove their morals down everyones throat. Black Dog for cripes sake, BMax wants to get rid of not just muslims, but gays, liberals, progressives, feminists, etc.
  8. So people on the left don't drink Tim Hortons? Man, I must have chosen the wrong party because I drank quite a few extra large triple triple's for the past few weeks.
  9. Its not really a creation of the left, especially when some leaders on the Christian right have talked about one day shutting down public schools so the church's can run education again. From what I understand some Christian Reconstructionists would like to bring back biblical law. Read up on Rushdoony BMax, unless he is a creation of the left despite the fact he was a real person.
  10. Buddy I think you should first of all relax. I moved to Manitoba in september from Ontario, and it really didn't seem all that bad. From what I understand the government isn't that bad, they've managed to balance the budget, and have even given some tax cuts. As for health care, it ain't much better in some provinces with a conservative or liberal government. Either way, you should calm down, count to ten, and start to think rationally for a change.
  11. What about the Nazis, Pinochet, Franco, and several other right wing governments. I'm scared of people on the extremes of both sides of the spectrum. I wouldn't consider communism the equivalent of progressives in the western world, that would be idiotic to say the least. Their is a huge difference between being an authoritarian and being a democrat, regardless of where you sit on the political spectrum. Forced abortion? Last time I checked people aren't forced to have abortions. As for sterilization, I believe many right wing governments supported eugenics. As well when did caring about the environment make one genocidal, I always thought being supportive of maintaining a healthy environment helped society.
  12. Read American Theocracy, its actually written by a former Republican and talks about some of the views of the religious right and how they effect policy decision in the US. I get somewhat worried about the direction the Christian Coalition wants to take America in, especially with the amount of influence they wield within the Republican party.
  13. The hateocracy is made up of plenty of people, left and right. To be frank it's getting tiring, I'm reading over BS made by both BMax and Norman Chateau. Either way, people for once I'd like to see a debate where we don't debate like were trying to advance an agenda of a certain political party, and instead come up with our own opinion's. I'm not saying that we shouldn't be supportive of certain parties, I'm just saying cut down on the partisan rhetoric. Norman Chateau, I've seen much more intelligent PM's from you with regards to the issues, I'd suggest being abit more rational when making your arguments. The same goes with everyone else. The last 25 posts dealt more with Tim Horton's than any actual political issues.
  14. Great debate guys, I can't get over all of the intelligent statements here. First things first, I'm not a CPC member, I'm infact a New Democrat so don't try to smear me as a left wing or right wing ideologue, I think all politician's in general are assholes. Please, if this was the case you'd think we wouldn't have such a lenient criminal justice system, have the most lenient abortion rules in the world, and to boot be one of the few countries to have legalized gay marriages. Don't get started on how the so-con's have taken over because of marijuana, most social conservatives are probably unhappy with Harper because he isn't conservative enough. Hell I think Stockwell Day who was one of the most socially conservative members of the party supported marijuana decriminalization. Is Harper a hypocrite for changing his policies, no he isn't. The reason why is because governing is different than being in opposition and playing to your base. Harper will change his priorities because he has to govern for the entire country, not just his base. The same can be said with any government, if Harper is that terrible of a leader one would have thought we would have an election by now, we haven't. As well I think people in the Liberal league shouldn't cry hypocrisy considering their blind partisan hackery when it comes to the Liberal Red Book policies. Jean Chretien had to do the same thing, when your dealing with different circumstances your priorities change, its a simple fact of life, and Canadian's obviously didn't mind because they gave him three straight majorities. I highly doubt they care much. Once again this is an example of someone who believes they are better than a fellow Canadian because they drink Starbucks coffee instead of Tim Hortons. When should we ban Tim Horton's? Not really, people have made references to Jack Layton being a member of the Taliban because of his opposition to the war. How many times have members on the right come on and said that anyone who doesn't agree with their position's is a traitor. Either way I'm glad I'm not a member of either of the main parties. It seems to me that its more about partisan hackery than actual debate.
  15. I've never felt particularly feminine, I've lived in one of the most conservative provinces on a farm, joined the military, and have yet to feel scared of losing my masculinity. This notion that someone is trying to feminize us all is pure BS, everyone wants to be afraid of some unknown enemy which is more than likely ficticious. Yeah, its a wonder that so many corporations are posting record profits. Cultural marxism is just another BS term used by people to try to persecute others. I think people claimed that Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement was also a communist ploy.
  16. Imagine that, ScottSA, Leafless, and BMax, are all afraid of gays who would have guessed. By being fired at a job, killed, stoned, persecuted, hanged, taunted, attacked, you know whatever is the fashion of the day for modern hatemongers. I have a perfect example: It's a wonder that Jew's make up such a small portion of the population as well yet seem so successful in the media. Get a grip on yourself ScottSA your rhetoric is no different than David Dukes. The notion that all gays are pedophiles is ridiculous, and its made by people who are either extremely ignorant or extremely hateful. I can find the same BS rhetoric on stormfront. Apparently the KKK is made up of white christian males, thus I can come to the conclusion that all white christian males are party to the KKK. This is a ridiculous statement, and it is about as ridiculous as this thread.
  17. I wouldn't put to much stock into what Elizabeth May says, I was considering voting for the Green Party until I realized that she was just another typical partisan hack.
  18. What a waste of time and money, man, I think we should seriously consider giving our politicians a huge paycut. Or better yet lets drudge up past remarks made by some of these politician's in their life, either way its complete idiocy on the part of MP's.
  19. I'm not gonna even bother responding to that poster. If I could vote, I would vote for the NDP. But unfortunately I'm in Cold Lake during the election.
  20. I rarely pay attention to these polls, they essentially show the same story from before. What will matter is the election, and those will be the only polls I will pay any attention to.
  21. Do you enjoy rewriting history or something... Let me guess, the white man has committed no wrong, and the coloured people are all evil and intent on destroying our great culture. Really get a grip bud, and stop thinking your more superior than everybody else because your a certain ethnicity and you happen to have a penis.
  22. Theirs alot of nuts out there....
  23. I was making reference to the people on here who say that anybody who doesn't agree with them should be charged with treason.
  24. How exactly? I doubt Iraq is going to attack, and apparently we're not much safer with the American's there. So the whole WMD thing was true, except that we never found any there. He has more military service than you, and as far as I'm concerned you shouldn't bash people who have become physically impaired from a useless war while the patriots safe at home continue to post hate filled drivel. Thanks for the tip Franco! Does anybody else feel that these people are a bit on the fascist side.
  25. No, my idea of mainstream is Stephen Harper, Jack Layton, or Stephan Dion. I believe your idea of mainstream is Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and Franco. By silent majority do you mean the 30% of people who think Bush is doing a good job? Hold on, didn't the 'silent majority' just elect a majority for the democrats in both houses. It looks like the whole American nation is a bunch of traitors. ScottSA better stock up on rope because it looks like their are a ton of America hating traitors down south.
